The women, who were paraded Naked and sexually assaulted in Manipur earlier in May, have approached the Supreme Court with a fresh petition related to the viral video of their ordeal. The two women filed petitions in the Supreme Court against the centre and the Manipur government. The petitions request that the Supreme Court take suo motu action on the case and order a fair and impartial inquiry. The victims have also requested that their identities be protected. The horrific incident took place a day after violence erupted between the Meitei and Kuki tribes in Manipur, following the Meitei’s demand for Scheduled Tribes (ST) status. Police had registered a case of abduction, gangrape and Murder at Nongpok Sekmai police station in Thoubal district and seven people have been arrested in connection with the matter.

01:19 The CBI has now formally taken over the case and has lodged an FIR.
01:24 The MHA, in an affidavit filed through its secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla, had also urged
01:29 the top court to transfer the trial in the case outside Manipur for its conclusion in
01:34 a time-bound manner.
01:35 It had also requested the Supreme Court to ensure that the trial is completed within
01:39 six months.
01:41 More than 160 people lost their lives and several hundreds were injured since ethnic
01:45 clashes broke out in Manipur on 3 May after a tribal solidarity march was organised in
01:51 the hill districts to protest against the Meitei community's demand for ST status.
01:56 Meiteis account for about 53% of Manipur's population and live mostly in the Imphal Valley.
