Transcript
00:00 >> Riding along with Denny Hamlin and that Toyota on board as they come out of turn four
00:11 for the final time before we see the green flag.
00:19 >> Tyler Reddick started up front with Kyle Busch in that front row but Reddick has separated
00:31 himself early.
00:32 Two by two behind him, though.
00:35 Denny Hamlin in the 11 looking already trying to take second away from Busch.
00:39 >> Way up the racetrack in turn three and four.
00:41 The 19 losing a few spots.
00:43 Locked up the left front tire, I believe.
00:46 >> That gets sorted out.
00:47 Let's take another look at the 19 and what happened.
00:49 >> Truex driving into turn three.
00:51 Gets on the brakes.
00:52 Contact with the 47.
00:53 Ricky stenhouse Jr.
00:54 >> That's pretty hard contact, honestly.
01:01 This early in the race.
01:02 >> Looks like truex trying to work hard on that outside.
01:05 Trying to maintain and not lose too many spots.
01:08 >> Back to 17.
01:09 >> A little wobble.
01:10 Lost a lot of spots.
01:12 >> Great stage for 23 11 as Tyler Reddick is getting ready to come back to the checkered
01:16 flag.
01:17 It's been stingy for a driver who has never led a lap on a short track.
01:22 He's about to lead his 70th lap today.
01:26 Not another driver has been out front.
01:29 Suarez is going to stay on that lead lap.
01:31 It is Tyler Reddick grabbing his fourth stage win this season.
01:36 That is his most ever in a season.
01:39 Reddick gets the win of stage one.
01:42 Bubba Wallace, his teammate at 23 11.
01:45 We heard Denny Hamlin say these three cars are all set up the same.
01:49 They finish one, two, three.
01:52 So now the front row is made up with Tyler Reddick.
01:56 He's on the inside.
01:57 Bubba Wallace is on the outside as they come through the restart zone.
02:01 Back in front of the pack grandstands.
02:04 Green flag.
02:05 >> Bubba Wallace trying to stay on the outside of that 45 and pressure him, limit the amount
02:18 he can come up the racetrack and see if he can get by on the high side.
02:21 >> Michael Mcdowell, about the fifth row, jumped up and made it three wide.
02:25 Still three wide.
02:26 He made a ton of positions doing that.
02:28 >> He did that on the very first start of the race as well to gain a lot of spots.
02:33 He's doing 11th in that first stage.
02:36 He's taking gambles.
02:37 His pit crew has taken gambles all year long to put him in spots to succeed.
02:43 He matches well with that aggression on the racetrack.
02:46 >> Bubba Wallace pinching down that 45.
02:50 Bubba Wallace.
02:51 >> Here's Bubba Wallace as well, the race leader.
02:52 He just said he's been getting loose and it keeps getting worse.
02:53 Starting to get snappy as well.
02:54 He'll make an adjustment for tires and fuel for the race leader.
03:06 >> Slow right side.
03:07 The jack comes down.
03:08 Tire change is looking at him.
03:09 Jacket this thing up.
03:10 This is going to be at least a second, maybe two seconds slower than a normal pit stop
03:11 for Bubba Wallace.
03:12 >> Now you have to wonder how frustrated Bubba Wallace is and does he drive frustrated knowing
03:23 that was a longer stop.
03:24 >> Luckily that happened under green.
03:26 If it happens under yellow, we lose dozens of spots.
03:30 Under green, he's just used a lot of time on the racetrack.
03:32 Probably just a few spots.
03:33 >> You see how much it is.
03:35 Keselowski goes flying by.
03:36 That stop cost him a full straightaway.
03:37 It's a ton of track position.
03:38 >> They are leaning on each other back there.
03:39 >> Literally.
03:40 Literally touching as they go through the turn three and four.
03:54 One more time around in stage two.
04:00 >> It's the battle right here.
04:01 Brad is going to win the stage.
04:02 This right here is the battle for the free pass.
04:03 >> Bowman or Larson.
04:04 Bowman has the spot right now.
04:05 You mentioned it.
04:06 Keselowski.
04:07 Yes, he's going to win the stage.
04:08 By a long shot.
04:09 A last effort to get in front of Bowman.
04:10 >> The 5, you can see sideways off the corner.
04:11 Just could not get it.
04:12 >> He's going to win the stage.
04:13 >> He's going to win the stage.
04:14 >> He's going to win the stage.
04:15 >> He's going to win the stage.
04:16 >> He's going to win the stage.
04:17 >> He's going to win the stage.
04:18 >> He's going to win the stage.
04:19 >> He's going to win the stage.
04:20 >> The 5, you can see sideways off the corner.
04:24 Just could not get it done.
04:26 >> Keselowski, his third stage win this year and at Richmond.
04:31 As we get ready for the green for the final stage.
04:38 Steve, you mentioned the strategy that played out as we see Denny Hamlin go wide and really
04:46 high trying to take advantage of this restart.
04:49 He gets by the 23.
04:50 >> Bubba is going to give him the room.
04:57 >> Now they're door to door.
04:59 >> Bubba is going to beat him on corner exit here.
05:02 Here comes the 11 back on the outside.
05:06 Priest trying to block there the 54 of Ty.
05:09 Ty Gibbs gets right in the back bumper of the 41 car of Priest.
05:15 >> This final stage, things are heating up here.
05:17 These restarts are always fun, especially in stage 3.
05:20 >> We just saw the 11 and the 5 of Kyle Larson.
05:25 I think it took 130 laps before we saw that.
05:31 >> Kyle on newer tires and just telling Denny, you're not going to be the guy that slows
05:36 me up.
05:37 He said before the race he was going to race him different.
05:40 That's what that was.
05:41 Didn't wreck him or anything.
05:42 I got new tires.
05:43 Rolling through here.
05:44 >> Line violation for Tyler Reddick.
05:51 You called it.
05:52 They did not get the pit road.
05:53 One of the contenders will serve a penalty right here.
05:54 Look at that.
05:55 Oh, that's close.
05:56 He does touch that orange box.
05:57 Can't do that, Steve.
05:58 One of the contenders out of it here.
05:59 Tyler Reddick gets a penalty on what should be the last stop of the day.
06:08 >> The problem started in turn 3.
06:10 He just drove in the corner way too deep.
06:12 Did not anticipate the line coming up so quickly.
06:16 Locked the tires up trying to get to pit road.
06:18 The car won't turn with the front tires locked up.
06:21 He just barely missed it.
06:22 Just pushing too hard to get to pit road.
06:26 >> Martin Truex Jr.
06:27 Out front and knew this was going to happen if they stayed green.
06:32 The fresher tires winning out.
06:35 Chris Buescher able to get by martin Truex Jr.
06:37 He takes the lead now.
06:38 Has a three-second lead over Truex running in the second spot.
06:43 >> Much like the first run of this stage, the 19 does not have the long run speed like
06:48 we saw in stage 2.
06:50 >> We've got a spin in turn 4.
06:53 A caution has come out for the restart.
06:56 >> Daniel Suarez around backwards.
06:58 >> Looks like you see Scott Graves right there.
07:01 Instantly going to work on the radio.
07:03 What do we need?
07:04 We know we're coming to pit road.
07:06 Daniel Suarez has got turned around.
07:09 There was a little bit of contact in the left rear.
07:13 >> Changes everything right here.
07:14 >> Like you say, it's going to put this in the hands of the crews on pit road.
07:20 >> Noel Gregson and Suarez contact into turn 3.
07:28 >> Suarez goes around the big smoke screen.
07:31 The caution has come out.
07:32 >> You have so much pressure on these crews.
07:36 The crews have to have a perfect stop.
07:39 It's going to be a four-tire stop for everybody.
07:41 >> Everybody is going to pit.
07:42 Everybody is going to take four tires.
07:43 You're going to have to have a perfect stop or at least a solid stop.
07:48 You can't go so fast you make a mistake.
07:52 This is what they train for is these moments right here.
07:54 Everybody who's a lap down will take the wave around.
07:56 This will put a lot of cars back in the lead.
07:58 >> Here we go.
07:59 It will be three to go.
08:03 Busch on the inside.
08:04 Hamlin on the outside.
08:05 >> Great flag back in the air.
08:06 >> That's a good launch for the 17.
08:07 Breeson 41 side by side with the 11.
08:08 Denny comes on the outside.
08:09 A big run.
08:10 >> Logano as well.
08:11 The 22, he moves to the outside.
08:12 Hamlin has closed the gap.
08:13 Three wide for the 22.
08:14 >> I think he's going to get a little bit of a break.
08:15 >> He's going to get a little bit of a break.
08:16 >> He's going to get a little bit of a break.
08:17 >> He's going to get a little bit of a break.

08:21 Logano as well in the 22.
08:45 >> Ready for that second spot now.
08:46 Hamlin trying to regroup.
08:51 They're side by side for a second.
08:52 Hamlin back out into that second spot.
