00:02 First of two camps for me today,
00:03 I'm in Chicago, five takeaways from Bears camp.
00:06 Takeaway number one,
00:07 the linebacker and receiver spots
00:08 have gotten a lot of work here over the last six months
00:11 with TJ Edwards and Tremaine Edmonds
00:12 coming in at linebacker
00:14 and DJ Moore coming in at receiver.
00:16 And they may be even deeper than they anticipated
00:18 they would be at those spots
00:19 because of a couple of day three draft picks.
00:22 The first of those, Tyler Scott,
00:23 fourth round receiver out of Cincinnati.
00:25 They knew he was fast, they knew he could run routes.
00:28 He's shown a little bit of a better ability to separate
00:30 than they anticipated he would.
00:32 And then Noah Sewell, a fifth round linebacker
00:35 out of Oregon really looks like a Matt Ibrafluus
00:37 type of linebacker, fast and instinctive.
00:39 And speaking of that, our second takeaway,
00:42 the linebacker room now does look very much
00:44 like a Matt Ibrafluus linebacker room,
00:46 like the type of linebacker room he had in Dallas,
00:47 the type of linebacker room he had in Indianapolis.
00:50 Of course, part of that is Edmonds, part of it's Sewell,
00:52 but Edwards has been a real revelation,
00:54 great leader, fast, instinctive, early in camp,
00:58 it looks like he's gonna be a key cog in that defense.
01:00 Takeaway number three, the offensive line
01:02 has been completely overhauled
01:04 over the last couple of years.
01:06 And the free agent guard they brought in from Tennessee,
01:08 Nate Davis, has been a real key in tying it together.
01:11 Then of course you got the rookie right tackle,
01:13 Darnell Wright, who's gonna be so key
01:14 to whether or not this works.
01:16 Well, one of the biggest questions on him
01:18 coming out of college was drive, motivation,
01:21 his football intangibles.
01:23 So that story that came out the other day
01:25 about the conditioning test,
01:26 where he trained for the receiver conditioning test
01:29 and wound up passing the lineman conditioning test
01:32 with flying colors as a result, it's an important one.
01:34 It's a quirky story, but it's also an important one,
01:36 something that you can kind of file away
01:38 if that pick works out.
01:39 Takeaway number four, like I said,
01:42 the roster's almost completely been overhauled.
01:44 There are only 15 players left at pre-date,
01:46 Ryan Poles and Matt Ibrafluus here.
01:48 And so again, they expect improvement at receiver,
01:51 they expect improvement on the offensive line.
01:53 One other area where they think
01:55 things are gonna be better this year
01:56 than they were a year ago,
01:58 how the defensive backfield ties together
02:00 with the linebackers, which is so key
02:02 in the way Matt Ibrafluus calls a defense.
02:05 And then finally, takeaway number five,
02:07 obviously what everyone wants to know here
02:08 is how Justin Fields is coming along.
02:10 They're optimistic.
02:11 Obviously the work ethic has always been there.
02:14 What they see now is a guy who's playing looser out there
02:18 because he's more confident in what he's looking at,
02:20 the picture is clearer to him,
02:21 and he's moving more efficiently.
02:23 His footwork's really improved.
02:24 That's it from Bears camp, we're off to Indy.
