00:03 Hey, guys.
00:09 It's Evelyn.
00:11 I like to bring new life to things.
00:13 So today, I'm going to show you how
00:14 to make a beautiful mini greenhouse
00:16 from old reclaimed windows.
00:18 [MUSIC PLAYING]
00:21 Start with a plan.
00:25 Like every good architect would say,
00:27 a clear plan for your house is most important.
00:30 Sketch out a few ideas, and maybe consult a carpenter
00:32 or a friend if you need direction.
00:35 Here's the sketch for my greenhouse.
00:36 Let's get to it.
00:38 Before you begin, make sure that your windows
00:40 are in optimal condition or repair them as needed.
00:43 You might want to save painting the windows for later
00:45 until you're finished, just in case they get scratched
00:48 in the building process.
00:49 To make things easier, choose windows
00:51 of the same size and material to put them together
00:53 without any extra hassle.
00:55 You can choose wood or aluminum framed windows,
00:58 but the job's much easier if they're all the same.
01:00 [MUSIC PLAYING]
01:04 Assemble your windows and measure the width
01:06 and the length of your greenhouse.
01:09 Those are the measurements that you
01:10 will use to create the frame that will hold together
01:13 the greenhouse.
01:14 Most hardware stores will cut the wood for you,
01:16 so you don't even need a saw.
01:17 Just drill them together, and you've got your frame.
01:19 [MUSIC PLAYING]
01:24 Once you finish the frame, place your windows
01:26 firmly against it.
01:29 Pre-drill your window frames, because old wood splits easily.
01:32 [MUSIC PLAYING]
01:35 For the front windows, use hinges,
01:37 so you can open them any time you want.
01:41 You can use several interesting shapes and materials
01:44 to create your room, for example,
01:46 corrugated plastic sheets or more wood.
01:49 [MUSIC PLAYING]
01:53 More windows.
01:55 I've used these two windows to create a pointed roof
01:58 with the help of angle brackets and finish it
02:00 off with some extra plywood.
02:02 [MUSIC PLAYING]
02:04 In the end, it all comes down to personal style.
02:07 Feel free to experiment.
02:09 Maybe add some cool legs on the bottom or gabled roofing,
02:13 maybe some screens to allow for ventilation.
02:15 [MUSIC PLAYING]
02:18 I've decided to add some shelving.
02:19 [MUSIC PLAYING]
02:23 And a wind chime.
02:24 [MUSIC PLAYING]
02:28 Set up your greenhouse in a place
02:30 that receives the morning sun.
02:31 And don't forget to add a thermometer
02:33 to monitor the temperature.
02:34 [MUSIC PLAYING]
02:38 Et voila.
02:38 Isn't it glorious?
02:40 What a beautiful handmade greenhouse.
02:42 I have to admit, I am really proud of this one.
02:46 Now, don't forget to fill it with your favorite plants.
02:48 I personally prefer edible plants,
02:50 like lettuce, chilies, or tomatoes.
02:53 [MUSIC PLAYING]
02:57 Greenhouses are perfect to grow seedlings and young plants.
03:00 The controlled climate inside the greenhouse
03:03 helps them to grow faster.
03:04 And the space offers extra protection
03:06 from frost and birds.
