00:00 This weekend we're gonna hear Jesus tell the parable of the pearl of great price
00:04 I can't hear this parable without thinking of that beautiful novella by John Steinbeck called the pearl
00:11 Which is really it's a sad story because it's about this poor pearl driver who finds this this
00:19 Unbelievably valuable pearl but it it wrecks his whole life
00:23 But at one point
00:26 reflecting on the whole experience
00:27 It says for it is said that humans are never satisfied
00:32 That you give them one thing and they want something more and this is said in disparagement
00:38 Whereas it is one of the greatest talents the species has and one that has made it superior to the animals
00:47 that are satisfied with what they have and
00:50 This really is the point that if we know that there are great pearls and we found them
00:57 then of course there must be a super great pearl that exceeds them all and
01:02 That's what the human heart is going after and what is the pearl of great price?
01:07 Well, it's something's of trying to satisfy the heart like nothing else
01:11 It obviously has to be a kind of a love because that's what our heart is made for
01:16 So it is a love that's indestructible. It's a love that knows the worst about me and
01:24 Still wants me. It's a love that forgives all of my faults and it's a love that satisfies
01:30 every desire so that I have perfect fulfillment and satisfaction and of course
01:37 The pearl of great price then is Jesus and that's what he's saying
01:41 Look at your heart and look at me and look at how there is this great
01:47 correspondence between the happiness that you're looking for and what you found in my friendship and just surrender
01:54 everything to that love and
01:57 Then the wealth that we're really looking for will be ours
