Steelers DB Elijah Riley Making Splash Plays Early

Elijah Riley got off to a hot start on the first day of  Pittsburgh Steelers training camp.

00:09 >> Day one is fun to set it off, but again, it's day one.

00:13 If my performance stops there, then what am I doing?

00:18 So my goal is to continue to improve, continue to make plays like that

00:21 throughout the duration of camp and show that I belong.

00:23 >> Mike said that there's really no particular order of who will play first

00:27 team, who will play second team.

00:28 Do you guys have a layout of, do you anticipate you'll be,

00:32 you'll kind of all switch the next couple of days to see who's more comfortable?

00:34 >> We're working through everybody's getting their reps.

00:37 We're all competing, iron sharpening iron.

00:39 So we're learning from the guys next to us, we're learning from the guys ahead of us.

00:42 Our goal is just to continue to make each other better.

00:44 >> I think you're the only guy that just went from safety and

00:48 slot yesterday.

00:49 It's kind of a unique thing where you look at the depth chart, how much,

00:54 how hard is it I guess for you now to switch between say free safety and slot?

00:59 Man coverage, zone coverage, deep half, and quarters, whatever it might be.

01:03 >> Year four in the league, I've moved around a lot.

01:05 I played a lot of corner in college and now since being in the NFL,

01:09 I've played safety, I've played slot, I've played some linebacker even.

01:12 So it's helped build a bigger picture for

01:15 me of what the defense is supposed to look like with the back end of the defense.

01:19 And it's about compartmentalizing everything.

01:22 Like I said, Brady helped me do a great job at GA and everybody else in

01:26 the secondary room has helped me put together a good picture of what's important.

01:29 And whatever position I'm in, I do my best in it.
