00:00 Firstly, congratulations for the 10 years of Bhaag Mil Kabha.
00:03 Thank you.
00:03 When we look back, there are so many memories that we guys as a viewer have collected.
00:07 Tell us something about your best movies in the movie.
00:10 Best memories.
00:12 Well, of course, I'd like to continue where you think.
00:14 Many, many congratulations to the director, and to Divya, and to Farhan, and to everyone
00:24 for the cast and crew of Bhaag Mil Kabha.
00:28 My special moment actually was before we started shooting.
00:32 Because I came to Om Prakashji and I requested him and his team that if I could get a moment
00:39 or a meeting with Mr. Milka Singhji.
00:43 Because he was the only one who had actually met Nehru in person.
00:47 Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru in person, amongst the whole cast and everyone.
00:53 I said, if I could get even half an hour with him before shooting, I'd get to know something about Panditji.
00:59 How was his character, how was it to meet him, how was the opportunity he got.
01:05 So I had a half an hour meeting with Mr. Milka and I went to his house on time at 11 o'clock.
01:10 And he returns from a game of golf every morning at the time at 11 o'clock.
01:15 And we sat down and we began speaking.
01:18 And the meeting that was supposed to last for half an hour went on for four hours.
01:22 We went to Chandigarh club, we had lunch.
01:24 It was a very, very special moment.
01:26 And I had to ask him as to, after he had won the race,
01:31 and Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru offered him,
01:34 "Ki tumhe kuch bhi chahiye hum dene ke liye tayyaar rahein."
01:36 To unhone kaha ki mujhe, pataab desh ke liye chhuti chahiye.
01:41 That was the simplicity of the man.
01:43 And Nirmal aunty who was there was looking, usne dekha,
01:45 "Agar us sabane mein saun ekad maangte toh wo bhi mil jata."
01:49 So that was the simplicity of, you know.
01:51 And when I asked him, I said,
01:53 "Aapne matlab itna hi maanga?"
01:55 He said, "Humne maangne ki aadat hi nahi thi.
01:57 Humne kabhi kisi se kuch maanga hi nahi tha abhi zindagi mein.
02:00 Haath kabhi nahi badhaa tha humne."
02:02 Sorry.
02:03 So it was a very special moment.
02:06 And I'm very grateful to the team to have given me this opportunity.
02:09 Nirmal, tell us something about...
02:11 I'm sorry, I hope the...
02:12 No, no, no, no, no.
02:13 Any best memories you'd like to share?
02:15 First, when I shared this script with Varun.
02:20 I said, "Please have a read.
02:23 This is the part for the heroine of the film."
02:29 She read and the role was of Milkha Singh's sister.
02:34 She said, "You know, sister is the heroine of the film."
02:39 I said, "Yes, my mother is my heroine.
02:42 My sister is my heroine.
02:44 My daughter can be my heroine.
02:46 So why can't we have that in cinema?
02:49 And once the film came on screen,
02:52 that thought was in my heart for a year.
02:55 And that is all because of her and what she brought on the table.
03:00 After playing a character for so many years,
03:02 you're seeing your character on a big screen again.
03:05 What memories do you have of this film?
03:08 This is a film that you can't get out of your mind even if you want to.
03:15 It's not like you can revisit it after 10 years.
03:19 You can't do it every day.
03:21 This film has become an important part of my life.
03:24 I have to thank him.
03:26 Every time I've made barriers,
03:29 every actor has a cake.
03:31 He always pushes that for me.
03:34 This film is a beautiful journey for all of us.
03:38 Right from when he narrated the role to when I said I wasn't sure.
03:43 He has a beautiful way of giving you so much confidence
03:48 that you don't have any doubt whether you should do it or not.
03:52 I think that's most of your battle.
03:54 When you're really enjoying doing what you're doing.
03:57 For me, Isri Kaur is going to be a landmark for me.
04:03 The love and experience I got from this film,
04:08 whether it was during the shooting,
04:10 or the power of costume I learnt from him.
04:13 I was wearing a denim suit and he said,
04:15 "Please change your costume."
04:17 I said, "No, it's fine like this. You change it."
04:20 And how my body language entirely changed
04:23 after I got into the character with the costume.
04:26 These subtle things maybe we don't know as actors.
04:30 But when you look back, you say, "Oh my God, that was magical."
04:33 So I'm glad I've been a part of such a cult film.
04:37 I've learnt so much from this film.
04:40 And I think you'll learn a lot from this film.
04:44 So thank you very much for this wonderful film.
04:46 Thank you for this interview.
04:48 Thanks.
04:51 (music)
04:54 (upbeat music)
04:56 you
