00:00 Did Taylor Swift fans cause seismic activity?
00:04 Washington State seismologist Jackie Kaplan Auerbach examined seismic wave data from a
00:09 station located outside of Lumen Field in Seattle, where Taylor performed concerts as
00:15 part of her ERAs tour.
00:17 So what did the seismologist find?
00:19 She tells CNN that the activity at the stadium on the nights of Taylor's concerts caused
00:24 seismic activity equivalent to a 2.3 magnitude earthquake.
00:30 She explains to the outlet, "For Taylor Swift, I collected about 10 hours of data where rhythm
00:36 controlled the behavior.
00:38 The music, the speakers, the beat, all that energy can drive into the ground and shake
00:43 it."
00:44 The seismologist, who was also a geology professor at Western Washington University, performed
00:49 the analysis after a person in the Pacific Northwest Earthquake Group, which she moderates,
00:55 questioned the differences in signal between a Swift concert and a Seattle Seahawks game,
01:02 which are also played at Lumen Field and can seat about 70,000 people.
01:07 In comparison to the 2011 Beastquake, a moment when fans responded excitedly to a touchdown
01:13 by running back Marshawn "Beast Mode" Lynch, there was a clear winner between the two.
01:19 Kaplan Auerbach tells King5 News, "I will say Swifties have it in the back.
01:24 This was much bigger than the Beastquake in terms of the raw amplitude of shaking, and
01:30 it went on for a whole lot longer, of course."
01:33 The Beastquake was a moment in time, but thus far the Swifties really have Seahawks fans
01:39 beat.
01:40 However, there could be another culprit.
01:42 Based off of graphs posted to Twitter, she notes that data from the concert may not be
01:47 caused by the fans.
01:49 It may be the sound system.
01:51 And while the science speaks for itself, fans attending Swift's Seattle shows detail the
01:56 experience from inside the venue.
01:59 One Facebook user writes, "I was at the Sunday performance.
02:03 That stadium really shook.
02:05 It definitely felt like an earthquake.
02:07 The bass tone was so intense it felt like it was going through my body.
02:12 Sounds odd, but that's how it felt.
02:14 Concerts are always loud, but this one was different.
02:17 Nobody can shake it off like Taylor Swift and her fans."
02:20 And this may just be a scientific fact.
02:23 "I was at the concert.
02:24 That stadium really shook.
02:25 It definitely felt like it was going through my body.
02:26 Sounds odd, but that's how it felt.
02:27 Nobody can shake it off like Taylor Swift and her fans."
