00:00 Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping reportedly had a conversation
00:06 eight months ago.
00:08 Reports said that the two exchanged courtesies at the G20 summit in Bali last November.
00:13 The Ministry of External Affairs said that they spoke on the need to stabilise bilateral
00:18 relations.
00:19 The government's confirmation came two days after Beijing claimed that PM Modi and Xi
00:23 Jinping reached an important consensus on stabilising bilateral ties during their interaction
00:30 at the G20 summit in Bali.
00:32 Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Arindam Bakshi stated that during the Bali
00:37 G20 summit last year, the Prime Minister and President Xi Jinping at the conclusion of
00:41 the dinner hosted by the Indonesian President exchanged pleasantries and discussed the necessity
00:47 of stabilising the bilateral relations between the two countries.
00:51 Bakshi said, "Our consistent stance has been that resolving the issue along the line of
00:56 actual control or LSE in the western sector of the India-China boundary and restoring
01:01 peace and tranquillity in the border areas is crucial for the overall resolution."
01:07 Bakshi made the comments in response to the Chinese Foreign Ministry's readout of the
01:11 meeting between NSA Ajit Doval and top diplomat Wang Yi in Johannesburg earlier this week.
01:18 The readout said that PM Modi and Xi Jinping reached a consensus in Bali on stabilising
01:22 relations.
01:23 The MEA had previously mentioned the exchange of pleasantries between the PM and Xi Jinping
01:29 on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Bali, which was their first public interaction since
01:34 the border standoff began in May 2020.
01:36 Currently, Indian and Chinese troops are engaged in a standoff at certain friction points in
01:41 eastern Ladakh.
01:42 However, disengagement has taken place in several areas following extensive diplomatic
01:47 and military talks.
01:48 Ties between the two countries plummeted significantly following the fierce clash in the Galwan Valley
01:53 in June 2020 that marked the most serious military conflict between the two sides in
01:58 decades.
01:59 When asked about the Chinese President's attendance at the G20 summit in Delhi, Arindam Bakshi
02:05 stated that India is making all the necessary preparations for the successful participation
02:10 of all invited leaders.
