00:00 Arshad is a very easy actor.
00:02 The best thing is that he always makes fun of me.
00:05 Just submit your whole understanding to the makers.
00:10 Because they are so well researched.
00:11 But tell me what's the point of censorship?
00:13 Then I'll debate.
00:14 Maybe if I lose the debate, I'll say that you're right and I'm wrong.
00:18 So I'll keep trusting my judgement.
00:20 I'll try to pick the best from the work that comes out.
00:24 Hello, you're watching Lahre and I'm Rehan.
00:27 We have the great actor Barun Sobati in the Kohra and Asur 2 series.
00:35 We'll talk to him about his acting and his career.
00:39 So let's go to Barun Sobati, who is with us via Zoom.
00:46 Hello, sir. I'm Rehan and you're watching Lahre Network.
00:50 First of all, congratulations on your amazing performance in Kohra and Asur.
00:58 My first question is, how do you feel when you get such a compliment?
01:06 I feel good.
01:09 I think everyone wants to do art, but it's only for appreciation.
01:25 So, sir, we were talking about your performance.
01:39 Obviously, it feels good.
01:41 How did you prepare?
01:43 So, the two of you are in the same character. You're a cop. Asur is a CBI cop.
01:58 What's the difference between the two?
02:00 There's a lot of difference. You haven't seen Asur, have you?
02:04 Yes, sir.
02:06 There's a lot of difference. Nikhil Nair is a forensic expert.
02:13 I'm playing an assistant sub-inspector.
02:16 Zameen Aswant Jaffer is a very intelligent man.
02:19 Nikhil is a genius.
02:22 Nikhil Nair is not as smart as a normal person.
02:37 He's from the village. He's a US citizen.
02:42 So, we prepared differently.
02:46 We did workshops in both the scenarios.
02:55 Both the scenarios involved a lot of research.
03:01 It took Gaurav two years to write Asur II. He did a lot of research.
03:07 Gunjeet Chopra, the creator of Scared Diggies, did a lot of research in Punjab.
03:16 The point is to submit your understanding to the makers.
03:23 They're so well-researched.
03:26 So, the preparation for this role is obvious.
03:37 You're a forensic expert.
03:40 So, how many difficulties did you face?
03:48 There were no difficulties.
03:56 We had to prepare beforehand.
04:01 Both the scenarios were challenging.
04:06 You started your career in Delhi.
04:18 Did you want to go into acting from the beginning?
04:22 You worked as a telecom manager for five to six years.
04:31 What was the beginning like?
04:38 I think when I was in the film industry,
04:43 every kid would want to act in films.
04:51 I had that in mind.
05:01 But I was also under responsibility.
05:05 I got an opportunity at the age of 25-26.
05:10 I could take a six-month break from my work.
05:14 I thought I'd invest that time here.
05:21 Did you do any training?
05:25 No, I didn't have time for that.
05:28 When you started your career,
05:33 you were nominated for a serial called 'What Name Should I Give This Love?'
05:37 You became famous.
05:40 You were liked by the public.
05:44 What was your experience like?
05:48 Scenarios are different in TV shows.
05:52 We're on set all day.
05:58 My show ran for a year and nine months.
06:02 I think we shot it two years ago.
06:08 We were on set for two years.
06:13 It was a 13-hour job.
06:19 We'd go home.
06:22 I was newly married at the time.
06:25 We couldn't travel.
06:29 We didn't know what people were talking about.
06:33 We didn't know how famous people were.
06:38 We realized how popular the show was.
06:42 I remember those two years.
06:47 We were on set for two years.
06:50 We were all good friends.
06:53 We had a good time.
06:57 Everyone else knew the actors.
07:03 The directors, assistants, associates, light, everyone was terrific.
07:10 I had a great time.
07:14 If we look at your career,
07:18 you've been in films like "Asur", "Kohra" and "Jabaan Hindustan".
07:26 You've been a new star.
07:33 What's your next plan?
07:36 Where do you want to be in the next five or ten years?
07:41 I don't plan for long.
07:45 I have good foresight.
07:51 I was able to judge the creative world.
08:00 How it works and how it's evolving is the only reason I'm placed the way I am.
08:06 I will keep trusting my judgment.
08:09 I'll try to do my best.
08:14 "Kohra" is a different kind of film.
08:19 You're a crime suspect and a police sub-inspector.
08:26 How did you cast for "Kohra"?
08:32 I was shooting a show called "Battameez Dil".
08:37 I got a call from a location.
08:43 I was told about a show called "Aise Aise".
08:49 I had done a film with Randeep.
08:54 I got a call from Sudeep, the show's creator.
08:59 I knew he had written "Pataal Lok", "Udta Punjab" and "NH10".
09:08 I loved the content.
09:13 I didn't think there was anything better in India.
09:18 I knew I had to do it.
09:24 I told Sudeep it would be a great deal for me.
09:32 He told me to read it first.
09:35 I read it and asked him a few questions.
09:41 He gave me a simple answer.
09:44 I was honoured to be a part of the whole thing.
09:53 Do you have any plans for the next installment?
10:04 It takes time to make good films.
10:08 If I want to make a good film, it will take a while.
10:14 Do you have any films in the pipeline?
10:20 I am working on it.
10:22 I have started a lot of things after "Kohra".
10:25 I haven't figured it out yet.
10:31 You have worked on TV, OTT, and films.
10:37 You have worked in every field.
10:42 All three have different styles.
10:45 OTT has become a different identity.
10:51 There is some criticism.
10:54 Salman Khan said that OTT content is causing problems.
11:02 Some say it is rude.
11:06 Kamal R Khan has criticised the content.
11:15 Anu Kapoor has said that OTT platforms are affecting the society.
11:28 What do you have to say about this?
11:34 Everyone has their own beliefs.
11:37 People have seen different things in their lives.
11:45 Everyone is not wrong in their own way.
11:51 I don't know what is the benefit of censorship.
11:58 Our country is used to seeing the wrong in the wrong.
12:08 It is not like that.
12:10 It is happening in the country.
12:12 Art has a responsibility to tell the story of the world.
12:17 What do you want to take away from it?
12:20 You want to be a villain, a hero.
12:23 You are all adults.
12:25 Children are watching.
12:28 The profiles are different.
12:31 Adults have different profiles.
12:34 It is on Netflix.
12:36 Parents should control.
12:38 Children should not see censorship.
12:41 You made a story.
12:46 You put it.
12:47 You should not be told to watch it.
12:49 Those who want to watch it, watch it.
12:51 Those who don't want to watch it, don't watch it.
12:53 Do you think censorship should be there?
12:57 I don't know.
13:00 I am not the wisest man in the world.
13:02 But tell me what is the benefit of censorship?
13:05 If you tell me, I will debate.
13:08 If I lose the debate, I will say that you are right.
13:12 You have played a role in Kohra and Asur.
13:15 You are getting so much appreciation.
13:17 How much are you personally certified?
13:21 Did you give 100%?
13:23 Or did you do something?
13:25 Or was there something else in this role?
13:28 Or was there something else in this scene?
13:31 Did you analyze yourself?
13:34 It is impossible not to.
13:38 If you see it, it looks like 50% is not there.
13:41 Yes, I think so.
13:46 If you see it later, it looks like.
13:49 But it's good. It's fine.
13:52 Overall, I was happy with how it turned out.
13:58 And how everyone liked it.
14:00 One last question, sir.
14:02 What are your upcoming series?
14:04 What are the pipelines?
14:06 When can we see you?
14:08 I have two shows pending.
14:11 One is being edited.
14:13 And the other is being re-edited.
14:15 One is a period drama.
14:19 I am playing a cop in that show.
14:22 And the other is a coming of age drama.
14:26 About current India.
14:28 It is very relevant.
14:31 I am playing a role of a memer.
14:36 So these are the two.
14:38 The rest is going on.
14:40 Sir, you have worked with Arsad Warsi in Asur.
14:43 He is a very good actor.
14:45 How are you learning from him?
14:48 What did I learn?
14:50 Arsad is a very easy actor.
14:53 It's been a long time since he has done this.
14:58 The best thing is that he always makes jokes.
15:02 I like that.
15:04 Thank you very much, sir.
15:06 And good luck for your future.
15:09 Thank you.
