Six Giants Placed on PUP
Transcript
00:00 The New York Giants have placed six players on the physically unable to perform list,
00:05 aka the Pup List, and five of those players had torn ACLs last season.
00:11 They include wide receivers Sterling Shepard and Wanda Robinson,
00:15 cornerback Aaron Robinson, defensive tackle DJ Davidson, and guard Marcus McCathin.
00:21 The sixth Giant who was placed on the Pup List is defensive lineman A'shaun Robinson,
00:27 a free agent signing of the Giants this past spring.
00:31 Robinson had injured his meniscus while as a member of the Los Angeles Rams last year
00:37 in November, so he still needs a few more weeks to get himself ready for the regular season.
00:43 Now in addition to the six placed on Pup, the Giants also listed Jamison Crowder, wide receiver,
00:51 with a calf injury, and he will start training camp on the reserve non-football injury list,
00:57 which kind of operates a little bit the same way as the Pup List, and I'll get to that in a moment.
01:02 Defensive tackle Vernon Butler was placed on the reserve did not report list,
01:08 and cornerback Leonard Johnson, who had a knee injury and was waived a few days ago,
01:13 injured. He was given an injury settlement and thus released from the Giants injured reserve list.
01:21 Now just real quick about the Pup List, some misconceptions that I want to clear up.
01:26 When a player ends up on the Pup List to start training camp, that simply means that he was not
01:31 able to pass a physical. Now a player placed on the Pup List during training camp can come off
01:38 of it any time as soon as he is able to pass a training camp physical. However, he will also
01:46 count against a 90-man roster, whereas during the season when a player is placed on the Pup List,
01:53 he must miss a minimum of four games and he does not count against the regular season roster. So
02:00 that's the big difference. Another misconception a lot of people have is that once a player comes
02:07 off a Pup List, he cannot be placed back on it in the same year. So if for example a player gets
02:13 injured after passing a physical, the choices are he either sits on the sideline while rehabbing,
02:21 or he goes to IR. He cannot be placed back on the Pup List. So those are the major differences that
02:26 you need to be aware of regarding this particular designation. For more on the New York Giants
02:32 training camp, which gets underway on Wednesday with its first practice on the field, be sure to
02:39 keep it here.
