00:00 Which future king is which?
00:02 Prince George looks more like his dad than ever.
00:06 Prince William's oldest son is his spitting image
00:09 in a new portrait released in honor
00:11 of the young royal's 10th birthday this week.
00:13 Fans immediately noticed George's resemblance
00:16 to Will at that age,
00:17 and a peek at early 90s era photos
00:19 of the now Prince of Wales only prove further
00:22 that the apple hasn't fallen far from the tree.
00:25 The photo was taken by Millie Pilkington
00:28 at Windsor Castle earlier this month,
00:30 and shows George resting his arms on his legs
00:32 while relaxing on a staircase.
00:34 In the snap, George rocks a blue and white striped shirt,
00:37 blue pants, and brown suede shoes,
00:39 but it's his ear to ear smile that steals the show.
00:42 George isn't the only one who takes after his father.
00:45 William and wife, Princess Kate Middleton's daughter,
00:47 Charlotte, is often compared to him as well,
00:50 and Will even famously mistook a baby photo of himself
00:53 as a picture of Charlotte when shown the snap
00:56 on a royal engagement back in 2020.
00:59 It's tradition for the Prince and Princess of Wales
01:01 to release a photo of each child ahead of their birthdays,
01:04 and royal watchers love seeing all three kids,
01:07 including youngest Prince Louis, grow up before their eyes.
01:10 But George is stepping more into the spotlight
01:12 as he gets older and attending more official outings
01:15 with his parents.
01:17 DailyMail.com's Charlie Langston chatted
01:19 with Access Hollywood about Prince George recently,
01:21 sharing insight on his personality
01:23 and how he is already embracing his role
01:26 as second in line to the throne.
01:28 - George does know that he's going to be the future king.
01:31 Now, obviously, the older he gets,
01:33 the better his understanding
01:35 of what that really means becomes.
01:38 However, he was told for the first time
01:41 around his seventh birthday,
01:43 William and Kate are understood to have sat him down
01:46 for a fairly frank conversation.
01:48 Now, at seven years old, you're not really going to be able
01:51 to understand the weight and responsibility
01:54 that you're facing as a future monarch,
01:56 but they did explain to him that his role as a future king
02:00 means that he will live a life of service and duty.
02:04 They explained to him how important the role is
02:07 to the British people, and the fact that it is one
02:11 that is really about giving back to the public.
02:14 And from what we understand,
02:16 he's grasping that more and more every day,
02:19 and I think you've seen it in his public appearances.
02:22 He's really relaxed into the different official engagements
02:26 that he's been doing.
02:27 When we saw him in his official role
02:29 at King Charles's coronation, for example,
02:32 he looked confident.
02:33 He knew exactly what he was doing,
02:35 and even though he was the youngest person
02:38 to take on an official role during that ceremony,
02:41 he mastered it.
02:42 He did it with such kind of confidence and grace,
02:46 and I think that that's a really wonderful indication
02:48 of how he's going to be as he really matures
02:51 into the role of future king.
02:53 - We've been seeing George out and about quite a bit lately.
02:55 Is that a deliberate choice, and why?
02:57 - It is a deliberate choice on the part of William and Kate,
03:01 but it's also a natural one.
03:04 As any parent out there knows, the older your child gets,
03:08 the more mature they get, the more opportunity you give them
03:11 to kind of hang out with the adults, as it were.
03:14 So when George was a very young boy,
03:16 they didn't feel that it was fair to him
03:18 to expect him to attend all of these different events,
03:21 to sit there calmly and politely
03:23 with his hands folded in his lap.
03:25 And just like you see with George's younger brother, Louis,
03:28 who doesn't get to go to all of the same events
03:31 that George and Charlotte do,
03:32 it was exactly the same thing with George.
03:35 Now that he's a bit older, now that he understands more
03:38 how he's supposed to behave in public
03:41 when the world's eyes are on him,
03:43 William and Kate feel much more confident
03:45 taking him out and about and giving him an opportunity
03:48 to kind of flex his future king legs, as it were.
03:51 But I think they've also done it in a really masterful way.
03:55 We know that George loves sports,
03:57 so William and Kate have taken advantage
03:59 of all of those wonderful public engagements
04:02 in a sporting arena in order to introduce George
04:06 more to that life of kind of being in the spotlight.
04:09 You know, he was at Wimbledon very recently,
04:11 he was at the cricket with his dad,
04:13 he's been to many a football or soccer game,
04:15 and those are things that he really enjoys,
04:18 and also places where he feels as though he can relax.
04:21 We've seen him kind of cheering and screaming
04:23 and rooting for his favorite team,
04:26 and that's a really great indication to the public
04:29 of how William and Kate are balancing
04:32 allowing him to be a normal boy,
04:33 but also slowly introducing him to what it really means
04:37 to be a public-facing member of the royal family.
04:41 - That's great, and what kind of child is George?
04:43 You touched on his interests,
04:44 we see how he's been embracing them,
04:45 but how would you describe his personality?
04:47 - I think it's best described by someone
04:50 who actually spent time with him
04:52 at a private club in London,
04:54 who said that he is much more cautious
04:58 than his two siblings.
04:59 Charlotte and Louis tend to be the more boisterous siblings
05:03 who rush forward, who make energetic, excited,
05:06 you know, kind of gestures and all of that kind of stuff.
05:09 Now that's not to say that George is shy.
05:11 I think that that's a wrong image
05:13 that has been painted of him.
05:15 I think he's more reserved than Charlotte and Louis.
05:19 I think that he tends to be a little bit more thoughtful
05:23 than the two of them,
05:24 and that will be a combination of two things.
05:26 A, his natural personality,
05:28 we can't all be boisterous, extroverted people,
05:32 but also because he does have more responsibility
05:36 on his shoulders, both as the oldest sibling,
05:39 but also as the future monarch,
05:41 and you saw that dynamic with William and Harry.
05:44 You know, Harry garnered this reputation
05:46 for being the loud, crazy joker,
05:48 while William was always the more reserved one.
05:51 Yes, that had to do with their differing personalities,
05:54 but behind the scenes, we know that William's a joker.
05:56 He knows how to have a good time.
05:58 The same can be said of George.
05:59 When he's in a relaxed, private environment,
06:02 he's known for being very cheeky,
06:03 he's known for being a little bit mischievous,
06:05 and he's known for kind of really having
06:08 a great, boisterous time when he's away from prying eyes,
06:12 and I think that's a lesson that he's kind of learned
06:14 more and more over the years,
06:16 and that's why he's kind of got this image
06:19 of being reserved and a little bit scared of the cameras.
06:23 That's not the case.
06:24 It's just that he knows that when he's in public,
06:26 he has to act a certain way,
06:29 and he can't necessarily run around
06:31 scrapping with the other kids,
06:33 because he's a future king.
06:34 - That's a great point.
06:35 Now, in what ways would you say he takes after William,
06:37 and which ways does he take after Kate?
06:40 - I think he takes after William in his stoicism.
06:43 You know, when he's in public,
06:45 he's very much the kind of calm,
06:47 collected leader of his siblings.
06:50 Now, interestingly, Charlotte has really formed
06:53 a reputation for herself as being the one
06:55 who's kind of telling off her brothers.
06:57 You know, she's always the one saying to Louis,
06:59 don't you do that, don't you make those faces,
07:01 but both of George's siblings take guidance from him
07:05 on how to behave in public.
07:07 They look to him as being a leader in a very quiet,
07:12 but very reassuring way.
07:14 We also know that George is intensely protective
07:17 over both Charlotte and Louis,
07:19 which I think is something that William exhibited
07:22 with Harry when they were younger.
07:24 Now, as far as Kate is concerned,
07:26 George has absolutely taken after
07:29 her incredible athleticism.
07:32 We know that he has formed an incredible fondness
07:34 for so many different sports,
07:36 and that's really something that he's learned
07:39 from his mother.
07:39 Kate is an incredible athlete.
07:41 We've seen her master all kinds of different sports
07:44 over the years.
07:45 You know, she's played tennis with Federer,
07:46 she's been sailing.
07:47 Whenever she and William compete against one another,
07:50 she is always the one who comes out on top,
07:52 and I think George is very much the same
07:54 as his mother in that regard.
