00:00 Here's today's Derbyshire Times video bulletin.
00:03 Derbyshire refuse tips will have their opening hours reduced,
00:06 accept fewer types of waste, have charges for non-residents
00:10 and be monitored by number plate recognition cameras
00:12 under new plans from the County Council.
00:15 The aim is to cut costs, boost income
00:17 and reduce the number of asbestos and tyres
00:19 the Council has to process.
00:21 It currently provides nine household waste
00:24 and recycling centres across the county
00:26 in Ashbourne, Bolsover, Buxton, Chesterfield, Glossop,
00:30 Ilkeston, Loscoe, Newhall and Dalydale.
00:33 Eight of these are operated by HW Martin
00:36 and one by Sewers Recycling and Recovery,
00:38 in total processing 85,000 tonnes of waste
00:41 and recycling each year.
00:43 The Council says that the amount of waste processed
00:46 at these sites has increased by a third in recent years
00:48 between 2018 and 2022.
00:51 As a result, the Council will now be consulting
00:54 on potentially restricting the use of its tips
00:56 to Derbyshire residents and charging residents
00:58 from other areas seeking to use these facilities.
01:03 The owner of a well-loved Chesterfield chip shop
01:05 and restaurant is preparing to open the doors
01:07 at a new location.
01:08 Chesterfield's restaurant and take-away on Sheffield Road
01:11 has long been a favourite for hungry Chesterfield residents
01:13 and the business is now expanding.
01:16 Owner Chris Ioannidis has confirmed that a new restaurant
01:18 is launching tomorrow.
01:20 It is located at the Markham Bale Services site
01:23 at junction 29A of the M1,
01:25 opposite McDonald's and next to Starbucks.
01:28 Chris said it had been a battle to open the new branch
01:30 after fighting through lockdown,
01:32 soaring prices for energy, fish and oil
01:34 and even having trouble finding a gas supplier.
01:37 He said, "It's been a real battle
01:38 to actually get the doors open,
01:40 but we've finally done it.
01:41 It looks spectacular."
