00:00 A new approach to try to stub out a growing problem.
00:05 Vape clouds are harmful whether you're breathing them in first or second hand.
00:10 The ABC's Dr Carl made these ads for the Queensland Government
00:14 and they've been imported to SA, warning young people about what's in vapes
00:19 and the harmful effects they can have.
00:21 Testimonial style ads will also go up at the same time,
00:25 giving smokers advice on how to quit.
00:28 Go and speak to your GP, get the support of friends and family
00:32 and maybe download an app and get in touch with some online communities
00:35 that will help coach you through your journey.
00:37 The multi-million dollar education campaign follows new laws
00:41 making it harder to buy and sell illegal nicotine e-cigarettes in SA.
00:46 The key thing here is to increase that knowledge,
00:49 increase the facts that we can get to young people about what they're using
00:54 at the same time as we take those regulatory actions.
00:57 And with the percentage of young South Australians who vape
01:01 increasing sevenfold between 2017 and 2022,
01:05 there's a lot of pressure to stop the trend in its tracks.
01:09 We're very concerned because we know that children who vape
01:14 are three times as likely to go on to become tobacco smokers.
01:17 Most of the outdoor ads will be around Hindley Street
01:20 in Adelaide's nightclub district and there's already support
01:24 from the Government's target audience.
01:26 You see like lists and they go, it's got thousands of chemicals in it or whatever
01:30 and it's scary, like it makes you go, well I don't know what I'm doing.
01:34 Like you think it's just air but it's not just air.
01:36 The ads will screen from Sunday.
