00:06 Over a decade ago, a killer or killers quietly roamed Long Island,
00:11 brutally murdering sex workers and dumping their bodies along the shores of Gilgo Beach.
00:16 Then in 2010, a chilling 911 call made by a woman in fear for her life prompted police to
00:22 search the area and led them to the remains of 11 victims. But for the next 13 years,
00:28 police had no answers. Until last Thursday, when a 59-year-old married father of two architect
00:34 named Rex Heumann was arrested on suspicion of at least three of these murders.
00:39 He's been indicted in a grand jury presentation by the Suffolk County District Attorney's Office
00:46 for the murders of Melissa Bartholomew, Megan Waterman and Amber Costello.
00:52 According to court documents, investigators have zeroed in on the suspect thanks to a
00:57 pimp's tip about his pickup truck, a stash of burner phones, his wife's hair and DNA obtained
01:05 from a discarded pizza crust. While Mr. Heumann has pleaded not guilty, it turns out that the
01:11 Long Island local has also got ties to Las Vegas and South Carolina. Now the independent has learned
01:18 that law enforcement are looking into a link between Mr. Heumann and other unsolved murders
01:24 and missing person cases all across the country.
