00:20 Hello and welcome to Full English, a show that combines politics with three actual by-elections.
00:26 Labour won! The Lib Dems won! The Tories also won!
00:31 It was just a great night for claiming the results back to your argument. Let's get into it.
00:36 The Tories went into these by-elections expecting to lose all three, but in reality have on to Uxbridge and South Royceliffe,
00:43 with some of the Froum going Liberal Democrat, while Selby went to Labour.
00:46 Conservatives are always guessing this means next election is winnable and they can do it,
00:50 but when you look at the figures, I'm not sure many Tories should be feeling confident about anything, anywhere.
00:56 You let's save them in Uxbridge, but that's not going to extend to the rest of the country,
01:00 and the picture nationally is still absolutely dreadful for Richie Soonak.
01:04 The results showed an average drop in Tory support of 21 points, matching if not surpassing current polling,
01:13 and that isn't ideal for the government.
01:15 Then there was tactical voting, with Labour or Lib Dems on around 2.5% on seats they didn't expect to win.
01:22 Voters coming even close to this for the next election could be an absolute wipeout for the Conservative Party.
01:27 People are working together to get rid of them.
01:29 And sure, they held Uxbridge, but even that went from a 7,000 majority in a safe Tory seat to less than 500.
01:36 The tide has turned and nearly half of all Leave voters no longer support the Tories.
01:41 Opposition time, baby.
01:45 So what have we learned?
01:47 Firstly that the Lib Dems are still very, very, very embarrassing,
01:51 celebrating with a cannon-fired glitter, if that does sound quite fun.
01:55 And secondly, that charging motorists £12.50 a day isn't very popular.
02:00 Shock.
02:01 Until next time, I've been Alexander Brown, and you haven't.
