00:00 This is the Sheffield Star and today we are at Chandos Crescent in Killamarsh
00:09 where you'll see behind me work has started and is well underway now
00:16 to demolish a house in the village where four people were tragically murdered in September 2021.
00:25 The decision was made by the local authorities to demolish the house
00:32 where Damien Bendall killed children Lacey Bennett, John Paul Bennett,
00:38 Connie Gent and Lacey and John Paul's mum Terry Harris in September 2021.
00:48 Bendall was given a whole life sentence in prison for the awful crime.
00:56 North East Derbyshire Council said the bereaved families had been consulted over the plan for the demolition of the property.
01:06 Neighbours have said that the demolition of the house is the best thing possible that could have happened
01:13 and some have said that it could have been done quicker and they'd have liked to have seen it done a bit more quickly
01:20 as it's now two years nearly since the awful crimes that happened.
01:24 And the neighbours have also said that they understand that there are plans for a memorial garden now
