Prominent community organisations have banded together to help explain how the proposed indigenous voice to parliament would work. Addressing concerns about a lack of clarity, aboriginal people working in executive advisory roles are pointing to their work as a positive example.

00:06 Aboriginal executives in community organisations advising their boardrooms about issues affecting
00:12 First Nations people.
00:13 We're giving our Aboriginal staff a forum to be heard and then I feed back that information
00:18 to our executive and our board who then can make informed decisions.
00:24 This group of prominent NGOs including Anglicare WA and Communicare are backing the Voice
00:30 to Parliament.
00:31 Amid concerns there's a lack of understanding about what it is and how it would work, these
00:35 executives say their roles are comparable small-scale examples.
00:40 We have genuine and authentic partnerships with not only Aboriginal and Torres Strait
00:45 Islander people at the local levels, in the regions and here in the city, it's also
00:51 across other states.
00:53 Of course the Voice has a few differences including that it would operate independently
00:57 of the bodies it advises.
01:00 But some argue it wouldn't create any meaningful change and resources could be better invested
01:05 elsewhere.
01:06 The only thing that's going to make things work is by those people on the ground leading
01:11 the way forward through heavy investment of resources to the right people to make those
01:16 positive changes.
01:18 Others believe it's a necessary step to address systemic disadvantages faced by First Nations
01:23 Australians.
01:24 For this to be a part of growth and opportunity for us to make this a better place for all
01:29 of us so that we can walk and live and play as one on this beautiful country.
01:36 Australians will decide for themselves whether the Voice is necessary or not before the end
01:40 of the year.
