00:00 >> Hi, how are you?
00:02 You faced off with Tom.
00:03 I believe he said some things to you in Polish.
00:06 What did he say to you?
00:08 >> He said I'm not fat anymore.
00:11 So he was referring that I lose some weight maybe
00:14 over the past camp.
00:16 Yeah.
00:17 >> Were you surprised that he was able to speak some Polish?
00:19 >> No, I knew he speaks Polish.
00:21 I know he has a Polish root.
00:22 So yeah, I wasn't surprised.
00:23 A little bit that he was saying it when he was recorded
00:28 because I had a rumor that he don't want to talk much
00:32 when he got interviews or something.
00:34 But yeah, he was speaking Polish.
00:36 He was speaking Polish well.
00:38 >> Yeah, and obviously this is your second main event,
00:41 I believe, of your career.
00:43 Tom has never gone past round two.
00:46 He has been booked for main events.
00:47 So do you think the key for you is
00:49 to drag him into deep waters?
00:51 >> The key is for sure to drag him into deep waters.
00:56 I don't know about, you know, going to the further rounds.
01:02 It's something unknown for sure how Tom will look
01:08 like in third, four or five rounds.
01:12 But, you know, I'm not sticking to the plan
01:15 that he will get tired and I will finish him.
01:17 I just, you know, want to go hard right from the beginning
01:21 because if I want to make him tired, I have to get tired too.
01:25 And I don't want to, you know, just stay there
01:29 and wait for him to get tired.
01:31 >> Yeah, and both of you have shown off your ground game
01:34 throughout your UFC career.
01:35 First of all, what do you think of his ground game
01:37 and do you envision that this fight will play
01:40 out on the ground?
01:42 >> I see his ground game.
01:44 I saw his impressive performance with Alexander Volkov.
01:49 So he is very good.
01:51 I knew his ground game is on such a high level before.
01:56 I spoke with some people, you know, from Poland who train
02:01 with Tom Aspinall and yeah, we'll see.
02:06 I don't feel like, you know, uncomfortable go
02:10 to the ground with Tom.
02:11 I am confident about my skills there too.
02:15 Yeah, we'll see how it plays out.
02:17 >> And you've been in the UFC since 2016.
02:20 How do you think the heavyweight division has changed
02:23 over the years?
02:23 Do you think it's the best it's ever been?
02:27 >> Well, yeah, it is.
02:29 Yeah, it's because I'm here.
02:32 Yeah, it's a really fun division right now.
02:35 I think it's because there is lots of contenders there.
02:38 It's lots of fighters who just, you know, right now can fight
02:43 for the belt and they're not getting
02:46 in because it's so busy.
02:47 So it's a very interesting division and bringing
02:52 to John Jones got much more interesting because I see him
02:57 as a bigger star right now fighting.
02:59 So yeah, it's a division that people keep an eye on.
03:04 >> And like you said, it is wide open.
03:05 So where do you feel like a win over Tom Aspinall would put you?
03:10 >> Well, I'm hoping to put me in the top five,
03:14 but probably I will get another fight to get the title.
03:21 That's something, you know, I look at it realistic.
03:27 So I will probably need another fight
03:29 to get the chance at the belt.
03:32 >> And you mentioned John Jones.
03:33 He's fighting Stipe.
03:34 How do you think that fight plays out?
03:36 Who wins?
03:38 >> I see that it's hard to bet against John Jones.
03:45 Whatever he did in the Octagon, he always comes
03:50 with the hand raised.
03:52 So I'm a fan of his style of fighting
03:58 and I'm picking Jones to win it.
04:02 >> And he kind of hinted retirement a little bit.
04:05 Do you think if he beats Stipe he sticks around
04:07 or do you think he will retire?
04:10 >> Hard to tell because he was saying that he will retire
04:14 and then he got back and then he say some other stuff
04:18 which he didn't do.
04:20 So he was talking about retire after it, but it depends.
04:26 I think he might.
04:29 He might feel it like he want to,
04:31 but if he wins he might still be hungry for more.
04:35 >> Thank you.
04:38 >> Hi, Marcin.
04:39 Due to the way that Tom's fight
04:43 with Curtis Blades went last year, do you see Tom
04:45 as a fighter coming off a loss or not because it was kind
04:48 of down to an injury?
04:51 >> I don't think he's coming off a loss like he got beat up, right?
05:00 He might coming off something bad happen
05:03 and that's something that might be in the back of his mind,
05:07 but I'm not, you know, just--
05:09 I don't pay attention much about his mentality and his--
05:14 if his will be-- if there will be something bother him coming
05:18 up to the fight, but he might.
05:20 I don't know.
05:21 I'm not focusing on this one.
05:23 >> And because of the injury,
05:25 do you think there will be any tentativeness at all
05:27 or are you expecting him to be 100%
05:28 and coming forward from the off?
05:30 >> Yeah, that's another thing I'm not focusing on.
05:32 I just-- I don't want to build my confidence
05:36 about him being limping or something like this.
05:39 I just hoping that he's 100% healthy and 100% ready.
05:45 So that kind of opponent excites me the most.
05:50 >> Would you think of Tom or rank Tom
05:53 as your toughest opponent today or not?
05:55 >> Absolutely, yeah.
05:57 I-- no doubt he's my toughest opponent in my career.
06:02 >> Best of luck, mate.
06:03 >> Thank you.
06:04 >> Marcin, to your left.
06:07 >> Hi. A lot of the conversation in the media leading
06:09 up to this fight has been about Tom.
06:12 Him coming back from injury, fighting on home soil,
06:15 fighting in London.
06:17 How does that sit with you?
06:18 Are you happy being the guy who not too many people are talking
06:23 about or do you feel a little bit disrespected
06:24 heading into this?
06:26 >> I don't mind my position in this one.
06:29 I really like to be an underdog.
06:33 I really like to be in the blue corner.
06:36 As long as I'm not the champion, it's nice to be an underdog,
06:42 you know, just I have more stake to cut in this fight.
06:48 Yeah, that's my approach for those kind of fights.
06:54 I don't mind it, you know, like it's--
06:58 anyway, it's very busy for me, the fight week, everything.
07:01 I know how, you know, attention it gets.
07:04 I signed for it.
07:05 It's-- so I don't feel like, you know,
07:11 I'm just the background here.
07:12 I just feel like the main hero also of the main event.
07:17 >> And a win over Tom would obviously be a real statement
07:21 in the heavyweight division and with it being so wide open
07:24 as Farah was saying earlier, who would be your natural next step
07:28 in your quest to sort of get that shot at the title,
07:31 do you think?
07:33 >> You know, the closest it gets to the fight,
07:35 I just don't want to see--
07:36 I just want to think about next step.
07:40 And, you know, right now it's much more on focusing
07:44 on what happened on Saturday.
07:46 But, yeah, I don't mind to share it.
07:49 If that comes the way I planned it, it's--
07:54 and I probably will need another win to get a title.
07:57 I don't know.
07:58 Sergey Pavlovich.
08:00 >> And if you're looking at Tom stylistically,
08:04 where do you think you have the greatest advantage in terms
08:08 of the different facets of MMA?
08:11 >> Against Tom?
08:12 >> Yeah.
08:14 >> I-- it's hard for mention just one.
08:20 I just feel like to have-- I have to--
08:24 whatever he brings, I have to bring more.
08:25 So I am just hoping to have advantage in every aspect.
08:29 >> And London has a very large Polish contingent.
08:32 You're expecting there to be a strong level of support for you
08:36 in the arena on Saturday night?
08:38 >> I'm expecting to be some.
08:40 Probably there will be, you know, much more British fans
08:45 booing for me a little bit and cheering for Tom.
08:48 But, yeah, there will be-- there will be Polish fan base there
08:53 and we'll be focusing on them to make them happy.
08:57 >> Brilliant.
08:57 Thanks a lot.
08:58 >> You spoke about the crowd.
09:00 You know, a lot of fighters have the O2 Arena
09:04 on their bucket list of places to fight.
09:06 Was London somewhere that you'd always looked forward
09:09 to fighting?
09:10 >> Yeah, yeah.
09:11 I was-- that was a place I really want to fight once I know
09:15 the-- you know, how big the martial arts here are.
09:20 And, yes, the O2 Arena, the--
09:24 I've been attending the UFC events before here.
09:27 I saw the atmosphere there and that was really something I want
09:32 to be a part of.
09:33 >> And you've headlined an event before in your career, you know,
09:36 a little bit earlier on into the UFC.
09:39 What are the differences that you're finding this week?
09:43 >> For sure, there is much more experience.
09:45 That was like, I don't know, six or seven years back
09:50 and there's lots of change, you know, like mentality,
09:54 my approach to training, to fighting, to all this,
09:59 you know, fighting show in general.
10:02 So, it's-- it would be-- it would take a while
10:06 to mention everything but it's a completely different,
10:09 you know, mindset for this one.
10:11 >> And in terms of who you are as a fighter,
10:13 how do you think you've developed since that time?
10:17 You as a fighter, how do you think you've developed
10:20 since that time?
10:21 >> Well, I developed physically for sure.
10:24 My body change, there's lots of stuff that I build up.
10:27 I skill up.
10:30 There's, you know, I was treated as a jujitsu fighter before.
10:35 Right now, I don't feel like there is a dominant,
10:40 you know, one thing dominant in my game.
10:45 I think like I'm well-rounded
10:47 and fully prepared mixed martial artist.
10:50 >> And you've gone 2-0, I think it is, since moving camps.
10:52 Can you talk about the impact that that's had to you?
10:55 >> Say again?
10:56 >> The impact that moving camps has had for you?
11:00 >> The moving camp?
11:01 This one?
11:03 You mean the camp?
11:06 >> How it's impacted your performances going forward.
11:10 You moved camp, your new team.
11:13 >> The new team?
11:14 >> Yeah.
11:14 >> Yeah, so I joined the team about seven fights ago.
11:18 So I really love that.
11:20 I travel around the world
11:22 and I found it the best place to train,
11:25 really getting along with my coach, Andrzej Kościelski.
11:28 And yeah, he's a big part of this win streak
11:33 and how the fighters are right now.
11:36 >> And in terms of Tom,
11:38 he's never been past the second round.
11:40 So do you see that playing to your advantage,
11:42 having gone the distance so many times before?
11:45 >> It might.
11:46 I'm not 100% sure it will.
11:48 I'm not focusing on, you know,
11:51 I'm not building my confidence about he's getting tired.
11:54 It might because it's unknown.
11:57 But, you know, we will find it out on Saturday.
12:01 >> Thank you.
12:02 >> Thank you.
