00:00 - Just doing the 18, he got shot out.
00:02 Nice and easy, he's not gonna get there.
00:04 - Denny Hamlin across the line,
00:07 the checkered flag is in the air.
00:09 - Both first 11, Denny Hamlin and the 18 of Kyle Busch
00:13 been DQ'd.
00:15 The final results have been changed.
00:17 - Handing the win to Chase Elliott.
00:20 (car engine revving)
00:25 (upbeat music)
00:30 - Hey race fans, it is the preview show
00:33 delivered by DoorDash.
00:35 I'm Kim Coon alongside Alan Kavanaugh in studio three
00:38 and things, well they're gonna get a little tricky
00:40 this weekend for the NASCAR Cup Series.
00:41 - Yeah, I'm trying to fold my car here into a triangle.
00:44 Into a triangle, that's where we're going.
00:46 - Where's turn four?
00:47 - Yeah, there's no turn four, I don't know what's on here,
00:49 but the tricky triangle of Pocono.
00:51 There's only the big three turns, it's so unique,
00:53 it's such a different track on the schedule.
00:56 So maybe a surprise winner,
00:57 maybe we could see something different.
00:59 - Okay, if we don't see something different,
01:02 who has had a good record at Pocono that we should watch?
01:05 - Good news for the Toyota fans
01:07 because they've won seven of the last 10.
01:09 Last weekend in New Hampshire,
01:11 just a dominant performance for Martin Truex Jr.
01:13 So I'll say this, Toyota's got the mo, the momentum.
01:17 But when I look at the scorecard,
01:19 it still shows me 12 Chevy wins this year to Toyota's six.
01:23 Toyota still has some work to do.
01:24 So they have to use this momentum
01:26 that they go into a track
01:27 that they know they have a good record at,
01:29 they have to get the win this week
01:30 if they wanna measure up more to those Chevys.
01:32 - Okay, we're talking Toyota, I'm looking at Tyler Rettig.
01:35 He was able to get good finishes there in a Chevrolet.
01:37 Now we know the recent history of Toyota,
01:39 their strength there.
01:40 I think the combo of Tyler Rettig in a Toyota at Pocono
01:43 is gonna be a great combination,
01:45 he could be successful this weekend.
01:46 - And I know it said Chase Elliott won there last year,
01:48 but let's not forget who crossed the finish line first.
01:50 It was a Toyota of Denny Hamlin,
01:52 a second place to Kyle Busch then in a Toyota.
01:54 So we know that they are fast,
01:56 they just have to bring that again this year.
01:58 - Well, you mentioned the seven recent wins by Toyota.
02:00 Four of those seven wins came from Kyle Busch,
02:03 but he's no longer in a Toyota, he's now in a Chevrolet.
02:06 So what are we expecting from KB?
02:08 - I expect him to bring that talent just to the eight team
02:11 now as he's been doing all year, a little inconsistent.
02:14 That's my only worry with Kyle Busch.
02:15 He's gonna be great at Pocono,
02:16 he's gonna have the speed there,
02:18 but he's gotta get the finish, right?
02:19 It seems like this year he's either in the winner's circle
02:21 or finishing 30th or worse.
02:23 You don't want the 30th or worse, right?
02:25 You want that consistency,
02:26 especially when we're pushing toward the playoff
02:28 and for that championship run.
02:29 I wanna see a little more consistency from Kyle Busch,
02:32 but he's got the talent and he's got the car and the speed.
02:34 - I agree, Kyle Busch.
02:35 It's been feast or famine this season,
02:37 that DNF in New Hampshire, that frustration.
02:40 We've seen in the past though,
02:41 frustration can work in favor of Kyle Busch,
02:43 lead him, get him motivated, or it can just kind of snowball.
02:47 So which Kyle Busch is it gonna be?
02:48 I think we're gonna see a solid day for him.
02:50 I wouldn't say a win, but a top five finish.
02:53 He is so good at Pocono and for a long time he wasn't,
02:56 but then something clicked, he's figured it out.
02:58 I think we see a top five from the number eight car.
03:00 - He remembered he's Kyle Busch
03:01 and he can just do anything, right?
03:02 - He can do anything. - There you go.
03:03 - A guy that we're not so sure can do anything these days,
03:07 Chase Elliott.
03:08 - Chase Elliott.
03:09 Let's go to the scorecard, our Chase tracker.
03:13 Kim, it shows he is 60 points below the elimination line.
03:16 You know what that means?
03:17 He worked all day in New Hampshire,
03:19 didn't make up any ground.
03:20 Imagine going to work all day and not making up any ground.
03:23 You got nothing to show for it.
03:24 That's what he has going in now to Pocono.
03:27 60 points out with six races left.
03:30 I have officially switched camps.
03:32 Chase Elliott needs a win.
03:33 He is must win now.
03:35 - I was in the win camp the entire time.
03:37 I'm sorry, I didn't have faith.
03:38 The nine fans can yell at me,
03:40 but I see a lot of similarities from this past weekend
03:43 in New Hampshire and Pocono for Chase.
03:45 He talked about New Hampshire not being a track
03:46 he felt very good at,
03:47 despite having a runner up finish last year.
03:50 Same thing with Pocono,
03:51 he says it's a track he hasn't really figured out.
03:53 He's not confident like he is at other tracks,
03:55 so much so that he's running the Xfinity race on Saturday
03:57 to get some extra seat time.
03:59 So I just think it's a no-go.
04:01 It's a Pocono for Chase Elliott this weekend,
04:04 but we still have races left for the playoff start.
04:07 So where are you looking that he could win?
04:08 - Good, and must has to win, likely.
04:11 Watkins Glen has to be on there.
04:12 You know, his couple wins there, so good at road courses.
04:14 Another one of the Indy road course that he's never won at.
04:17 He's never won a road course race in the next gen car.
04:20 So I'm worried about that,
04:22 but Watkins Glen, if not Pocono,
04:24 you know, we're running out of shots here.
04:25 Daytona, always a possibility.
04:27 - I'm watching Watkins Glen.
04:28 I'm also watching Michigan.
04:29 - Okay, a lot of speed.
04:30 All right, I'm just worried about Chase Elliott's speed
04:32 in terms of last year's Chase Elliott
04:35 can make up 60 points in six races so fast.
04:37 The 2020 championship here can definitely do it.
04:40 This year's nine team can barely crack the top 10.
04:43 I don't get it, Kim.
04:45 - All right, well, each week we look back
04:47 at a NASCAR 75 flashback.
04:48 Where are we headed in the time machine this week?
04:50 Let's go back to 2010 at Pocono.
04:53 What a race this was, memorable for many reasons.
04:55 One of them, this incident between Kevin Harvick
04:58 in the 29 car and Joey Logano in the 20 car.
05:02 Two laps to go, Kevin Harvick gets into Logano.
05:05 It leads to the famous line about who really wears
05:08 the fire suit in the Harvick family.
05:10 We all remember that.
05:11 That incident sent the race into overtime.
05:13 Denny Hamlin would get the win after this big crash
05:16 that nearly sent Casey Kane airborne.
05:18 An eventful day at the Tricky Triangle.
05:20 Always good racing up there.
05:21 I think we see it again this weekend.
05:22 - And I hope Kevin Harvick brings that same fire
05:24 this weekend in his last start at Pocono Raceway.
05:27 You don't wanna miss it.
05:27 It's the highpoint.com 400 this Sunday, July 23rd,
05:31 2.30 PM Eastern on USA.
05:33 - And join us right back here next week
05:34 for the preview show delivered by DoorDash.
05:36 She's Kim, I'm Alan.
05:38 We'll see you then.
05:39 (car engine roaring)
05:44 (car crashing)
05:46 (heavy breathing)
