00:06 As I saw Warner Bros Broadway theatrical version of Wonka a couple of years ago with Christian Borle
00:13 and I gotta tell ya, it was delightful!
00:15 It was in fact my favorite version of the story.
00:18 But I like Timothee Chalamet, again I like the Wonka story
00:22 and I like Paul King, who directed the Paddington movies
00:24 and is bringing Hugh Grant over with him
00:27 who was great in Paddington too.
00:29 I'm loving Hugh Grant's silly era.
00:31 So I think that's very promising about this movie.
00:35 My only concerns are that I got my hands on a treatment
00:39 early days on the movie, but it was very descriptive
00:43 and it was very convoluted, in fact I couldn't get through it.
00:47 And so I'm hoping that that was just problems that were on the page.
00:51 And they fixed that once they made the movie.
00:54 And then the other issue I have is that I think Harry Potter has kind of
00:58 has kind of already moved into the crazy candy space
01:02 and so especially if you're gonna take a darker turn like this movie seems to
01:06 you know, instead of going full candy colored
01:09 you know, will it seem a little bit too much like Harry Potter?
01:13 But let's watch this thing, let's take a look, I'm excited, here we go!

03:41 I got to tell you, I don't think it all comes together at all.

03:48 I mean, it's a fun Christmas movie.
03:50 I'm getting a little Hugo Golden Compass vibes off of it,
03:53 which scares me, because those movies
03:55 were tough to sit through.
03:57 And I think that my reaction to the outline
04:00 might have been correct.
04:02 But it looks very pretty.
04:04 It's a fun candy store coming out again at the holiday time.
04:07 They're going to sing and dance.
04:08 Looks like it has some funny jokes in it.
04:10 And I think that Hugh Grant and Rowan Atkinson, I mean,
04:14 there's no way I'm not seeing a movie with them in it.
04:17 But I will say, as much as I like Timothy Chalamet, who
04:19 I think is wonderfully cast in Dune,
04:22 I think he's miscast here.
04:24 I can't believe I'm saying it.
04:25 Oh, sorry, Timothy Chalamet fans.
04:28 But I think that he is just-- he's too stilted.
04:31 He seems like he's doing a Broadway production rather
04:34 than a movie.
04:35 I don't believe that he's actually Willy Wonka.
04:38 It seems to me like he's playing Willy Wonka.
04:41 And so I'm curious as to what you think.
04:44 I just don't think he holds it all together.
04:48 Well, you know, we'll see.
