Pilbara Winters! Solo Spearfishing And Whale Encounters

  • last year
I journey out to some familiar ground to jump into the water, where I'll begin my hunt for a fresh catch of fish, armed with my speargun and camera, a solo underwater adventure awaits!

Once back on the surface and happy with the few fish I claimed for the purpose of this video, and of course; my dinner! I throw an old faithful lure out behind the boat and begin a small topwater session as I make waves towards the islands.

In what had been months since taking a fishing rod out with me, I'd forgotten just how fun and exhilarating it really can be to hear that line go tight, and see the rod bend! After a quick hookup and a fight that ended with a similar feeling to reeling in a wet sock; I had another fish on board, and one I was awfully STOKED with!

With a day that had been so enjoyable and gone by so seamlessly, the only way to wrap things up, was quite literally, with some fresh fish wraps, cooked on the beach, with an ever simple catch and cook, before I journeyed on home with nothing but a smile on my face.

Winters in the Pilbara are like nowhere else.
With the whale migration in full swing, accompanied by blue skies, the fish are plenty, and the spirits are high, it's easy to understand why I've decided to put roots down here and give myself somewhere to call home.
