Big House Blues (not to be confused for the 1947 Flippy short of the same name) is a 1990 animated short film directed by the now-controversial Canadian animator and blogger, John Kricfalusi and the first cartoon to be made in his now-defunct animation studio Spümcø. This short was the first public appearance of Ren Höek, a mentally unstable asthma-hound chihuahua and Stimpy, a loyal but stupid fat manx cat with a big bulbous nose. The short later became the pilot episode for one of cable television channel Nickelodeon's first cartoon series (reffered as Nicktoons), The Ren & Stimpy Show which premiered in August 11th, 1991 alongside Jumbo Pictures' Doug and Klasky-Csupo's Rugrats. It debuted on the Spike and Mike "Sick and Twisted" Animation Festival in August 10th, 1990 and The Third Animation Celebration: The Movie from December 26th to January 27th, 1991 and recieved a theatrical release on December 21st with Arnold Schwarzenegger's Kindergarten Cop, and it debuted on television on September 15th, 1991 alongside Fire Dogs, just because The Littlest Giant wasn't delivered on time.
