00:02 - So I just have some balloons here.
00:08 Would you do me a favor, take out any one you want?
00:10 - Yep.
00:11 - All right, and blow it up, please.
00:13 And would you be so kind as to hold the rest of these?
00:16 Thank you.
00:17 So pretty big, a little bit bigger than your head.
00:21 Very big.
00:22 - Good?
00:31 - A little bit bigger.
00:33 A little bit.
00:34 A little bit.
00:36 (laughing)
00:38 Perfect, now tie it off, please.
00:43 Seems to be everyone's hardest part.
00:47 - Okay.
00:50 - Excellent, and I'll take it back.
00:52 (blowing)
00:53 (laughing)
00:54 I won't do it.
00:55 I'm gonna do something else though, pretty cool.
00:58 If you focus on an object, say like this balloon,
01:02 you can cause it to, I guess, defy gravity.
01:08 So you have to be completely silent for this
01:10 or it won't work at all.
01:11 Okay, watch.
01:12 (people talking)
01:15 (laughing)
01:26 - Oh my God.
01:35 - That was crazy.
01:36 - That was crazy, that was awesome.
01:37 - Here's where it explodes.
01:38 (laughing)
01:39 - No, that was really cool.
01:41 - Wait, can you do it again if I'm just being?
01:43 - Probably.
01:44 - Okay, good.
01:45 Oh my God, that is awesome.
02:06 (laughing)
02:08 Okay, now tell me how to do it.
02:09 No, I'm just kidding.
02:09 - Perfectly.
02:10 - That was awesome.
02:11 - Thank you.
02:12 - Yeah, very cool.
02:13 - Excellent, so what is your name?
02:15 - Miguel.
02:15 - Miguel, nice to meet you Miguel.
02:17 And your name?
02:18 - Kimberly.
02:18 - Kimberly, nice to meet you.
02:19 Kimberly, would you do me a favor,
02:20 take out any balloon you'd like?
02:21 - Yes.
02:22 - Except for that one.
02:23 I'm just kidding, you can have that one if you'd like.
02:26 Could you hold these please?
02:27 Yep, and blow it up about this big,
02:31 if you can, without popping it.
02:32 (people chattering)
02:35 A little bit more.
02:45 Perfect, and then just tie it off please.
02:54 Perfect.
03:02 Take it back.
03:03 All right, so what you can do is,
03:04 you can kind of change the laws of gravity,
03:08 kind of, a little bit.
03:10 Not much, but it requires silence,
03:13 or else it doesn't work at all and it'd be stupid.
03:15 So check this out.
03:18 (people chattering)
03:21 - Wow, that's pretty cool.
03:35 - Now there's no static electricity,
03:38 like you've heard before, there's no strings.
03:47 And you can also transfer your energy
03:48 to the balloon as well, okay.
03:51 So this is an interesting part.
03:52 You can put the balloons down if you'd like.
03:54 I want you to hold out both of your hands just like this.
03:55 You do the same, Kimberly.
03:57 And you're gonna concentrate the angers of your day
03:59 onto this balloon.
04:00 - Okay.
04:01 - All right.
04:02 So concentrate as hard as you can.
04:05 As hard as you can, as hard as you can, as hard as you can.
04:08 (balloon pops)
04:09 (laughs)
04:10 Too much, I guess.
04:11 (laughs)
04:13 (people chattering)
04:17 - Wow.
04:18 - Oh, so you are reading everything.
04:19 - Yes.
04:20 - Oh, I'm curious about how things work.
04:22 (people chattering)
04:25 - Now I'm gonna try something pretty cool with this.
04:30 You can kind of define the rules of physics.
04:32 (people chattering)
04:35 - It still works, but it's not a biopsy.
04:39 (people chattering)
04:42 In the middle of all that, I found one book
04:47 that had two chapters about nine.
04:49 (people chattering)
04:52 So like I said, this one's about static electricity.
04:58 Now you can do this kind of the same way.
05:01 Hold out both your hands like this.
05:03 (people chattering)
05:06 Just really.
05:11 (balloon pops)
05:13 (growls)
05:16 - Wow, okay, it's wild.
05:19 - So what I'm gonna do is a cool trick with a balloon.
05:21 Can you do me a favor and take out any one you'd like?
05:24 Except that one, I'm just kidding.
05:25 You can have that one if you'd like.
05:26 - Oh, that's so bad.
05:27 - It's okay, it's okay.
05:28 - I'm actually so fond of this balloon.
05:28 - Oh, okay.
05:29 Do me a favor and blow it up, please.
05:31 - What does he mean?
05:32 - Blow it up, blow it up.
05:32 You can have one more drink if you'd like.
05:33 - This is so bad.
05:34 It's actually really--
05:35 - Could you also hold the balloons?
05:36 Thanks.
05:37 Just hold them, yep.
05:37 - The whole thing?
05:38 - Whole thing, okay.
05:39 (people chattering)
05:41 Pretty big, just, yeah, about that big.
05:43 (people chattering)
05:46 - I thank you for doing this for us.
06:00 - It's a pleasure.
06:02 - Perfect, and then just tie it off, please.
06:09 - Good, thank God.
06:11 Thank God.
06:11 Oh, no.
06:17 That's right.
06:20 - Excellent, thank you.
06:31 - It looks like it's about to come undone.
06:33 Oh, well.
06:34 - It's loose.
06:35 - It's loose.
06:36 We can try something pretty cool with the balloon
06:38 by actually changing the laws of physics,
06:41 just for a little bit, but I'll show you what I mean.
06:43 It has to be completely silent or else it does not work.
06:46 Okay, so check this out.
06:48 (people chattering)
06:51 So there's no strings or static electricity with this.
07:10 - You're getting nervous.
07:13 - Now you can do this too.
07:14 You can do a version of this, okay?
07:16 I want you to hold out your hands just like this,
07:18 and you can hold out,
07:19 even if you have your stuff, it doesn't matter.
07:20 - Okay.
07:21 - You're gonna transfer all of your energy
07:23 into this poor balloon.
07:25 So just concentrate as hard as you can.
07:29 All your anger of the day on this balloon.
07:31 (balloon pops)
07:32 (laughs)
07:33 Too much, I guess.
07:34 - Yeah, I guess.
07:35 - That's a lot of anger.
07:37 (balloon pops)
07:42 - Oh my God.
07:42 (laughs)
07:45 - We broke it.
07:47 It's done.
07:47 (laughs)
07:48 Can we do that?
07:49 (laughs)
07:50 - For energy?
07:51 - What?
07:52 (laughs)
07:53 (gentle music)
07:55 (upbeat music)
08:05 (upbeat music)
08:08 - Halo is an effect that takes place
08:31 inches away from your spectator's face.
08:33 There are no strings, wires, or static electricity.
08:37 And get this, on command,
08:42 the spectator can pop the balloon at the end.
08:44 (balloon pops)
08:47 Hey guys, I'm Brad Adams, and this is Halo.
08:57 Halo is a floating balloon effect
08:59 that does not use strings, wires, or static electricity.
09:02 There are a few ways to get it accomplished,
09:04 and a few ways to perform it as well,
09:06 such as floating it in front of your face,
09:09 at your hands, or having it blow up
09:11 at the command of the spectators.
09:13 Welcome to Halo.
09:15 Okay, so here are the things you need to make the gimmick.
09:19 First thing is a deck of cards.
09:20 The newer the deck, the better.
09:22 The second thing is Zots,
09:25 and these are clear adhesive dots.
09:26 You can get these at any office supplies store,
09:28 or Walmart, wherever you're gonna go.
09:31 And you also need some balloons.
09:33 Now, the higher quality, the better.
09:35 For this version, the lower dollar store brands
09:39 don't work as well with the Zots,
09:42 so I'll show you a different method
09:44 so you can use these balloons as well.
09:46 But for this method,
09:47 you wanna get the higher quality balloons,
09:49 and get into how to construct everything,
09:52 and how to get you going with Halo.
09:56 Okay, so to start, you need one card,
09:58 one Zot, and one balloon.
10:01 You're gonna take the card,
10:03 and you're gonna fold it in half lengthwise, just like this.
10:07 And you're gonna fold it down again, just like that.
10:10 So now you have an L shape, sort of.
10:13 Next, you're gonna take the Zot.
10:17 You're going to unpeel one side of the plastic.
10:20 Peel off one side of the plastic, get rid of it.
10:24 And you're gonna put it on the bent edge, just like this.
10:29 And you can keep this in your pocket
10:31 until you're ready to perform.
10:32 This way, if you keep the plastic on,
10:34 it won't get any lint or hair in your pocket stuck to it,
10:38 and it won't stick to the balloon after that.
10:40 So you wanna keep this as clean as possible,
10:42 this Zot surface.
10:44 And that's basically the whole gimmick.
10:47 So this just is gonna basically stick on the balloon
10:51 and create the levitation.
10:53 So let's get into how it all works.
10:57 Okay, so this is the performance and explanation of Halo.
11:01 You're gonna take a balloon, have a spectator blow it up,
11:04 and they can tie it as well.
11:06 And the whole time, you're gonna have the gimmick
11:08 in your left hand, in a modified finger palm, almost.
11:12 But the gimmick is resting on your palm.
11:16 And the bent edge folds over in your fingers,
11:22 just like this, so the Zot is not affected by the balloon.
11:26 It's not affected by anything it touches.
11:29 And with your thumb covering this,
11:33 it's pretty convincing, and you can hold your hand
11:35 pretty freely at your side.
11:37 So when they blow this up, you have this at your side,
11:39 you're gonna bring your left hand up,
11:43 and you're gonna stick the Zot right onto the balloon.
11:46 You're just gonna lay it flat all on your hand,
11:49 and this will adhere it to the balloon,
11:52 and you can let it go, do whatever you want.
11:54 I'm just gonna keep it flat in my hand,
11:57 and you can talk and say whatever you want,
11:59 that you're gonna make it float, that you're going to,
12:03 I don't know, whatever your excuse
12:04 for floating a balloon would be.
12:06 So from this point, you're going to
12:09 rotate the balloon up while keeping
12:13 the gimmick somewhat in your hand.
12:15 So this will flatten out the gimmick.
12:18 And once you're here, you're going to place it,
12:23 bring it up to your face first,
12:25 and you're gonna get it to almost your mouth, okay?
12:28 So this is how it works, is it goes in your mouth,
12:31 and you control it with your teeth, okay?
12:34 So you're gonna bring it close to your face,
12:37 and with your fingers, your index fingers,
12:39 you're gonna rotate the balloon up slightly,
12:42 and this will put the piece up to your mouth
12:45 so you don't have to do any,
12:46 you don't have to really put it in front of your face
12:49 to get it to your lips, but a good thing
12:53 a good tip is when you're bringing it in front of your face,
12:57 you wanna keep your eye line right on the top of the balloon
13:00 so you're gonna be looking at the balloon,
13:02 and this I feel is just a more fair way
13:05 to show that you're, you know,
13:07 nothing's going on with your mouth when really there is.
13:11 So you're gonna rotate it up towards your mouth,
13:15 grab it in between your teeth, okay,
13:18 and you're just gonna use your teeth
13:20 to pivot the balloon up and down.
13:22 So, that's kinda hard to talk with it in my mouth.
13:27 That's what she said.
13:28 (laughs)
13:30 Once you're here, you're gonna rotate it up
13:32 towards your lips, grab it in between your teeth,
13:35 and then you can let go at this point,
13:38 and it'll hold, okay?
13:41 So like before I said, the newer the card, the better,
13:43 because I had some old cards, and it was,
13:46 it would not hold up, so as soon as you put it in,
13:48 it would just fall down like that.
13:50 So there has to be some strength in the card,
13:54 but from this point, you can raise it and lower it
13:57 with just your teeth, so.
13:59 And that's very simple to do.
14:06 My excuse for not talking during this is
14:09 that I need silence to concentrate on the energy it takes
14:13 to float the balloon, so normally you could have
14:17 the whole group be quiet while you concentrate on this,
14:19 and it doesn't seem out of the ordinary
14:21 that you're not talking.
14:23 So, from the front, you're gonna bring it
14:26 kind of out at the side of your face almost,
14:29 and bring it in front of your face,
14:31 keeping your eyes on the top of the balloon,
14:34 and you're gonna rotate the piece up,
14:36 and then let go, and then you can control it.
14:42 You, like I said, move it up or down.
14:44 I like to go, have it move all the way up,
14:46 and then I grab it out of the air like this,
14:49 and you can pull it out like that.
14:55 Now, once you've taken it out, you can rotate it again,
15:00 and basically go back to the position you were
15:04 right before you did the levitation.
15:06 So from the side.
15:08 Take it out, and then you can rotate it,
15:15 and your hand will now cover the gimmick,
15:18 so you can show it on all sides.
15:20 Okay, so if you wanna do the ending
15:23 where the spectators pop the balloon,
15:25 just get the balloon down about to your stomach level,
15:30 and you're going to have the spectators
15:32 put their hands around the balloon
15:34 to generate energy or whatever,
15:36 and all you're gonna be doing is pulling the gimmick
15:39 right off the back of the balloon,
15:40 which should be really well adhered to the balloon by now,
15:44 and when you pull it off, it should explode.
15:47 So you have a firm grip, you have a firm grip,
15:52 and whenever you want, you can pull it right off,
15:57 and that's enough misdirection to just pull the gimmick
15:59 behind your back, put it in your pocket or whatever,
16:03 and that's the first ending.
16:05 So let's get into the other ways to accomplish this
16:09 and other materials you can use.
16:11 Okay, so this is method two.
16:13 I've taken the same card gimmick
16:15 and wrapped a piece of double-sided tape
16:17 around the small edge.
16:19 What this allows you to do is remove the gimmick
16:21 at the end of the routine and hand the balloon out.
16:24 However, you cannot cause the balloon to pop at the end
16:27 because it's not sticky enough,
16:30 and you can also use the lower quality balloons,
16:33 so dollar store balloons, they also work really well
16:36 with the double-stick tape rather than the Zots
16:38 because there is a powder or something
16:41 on the lower quality balloons that just causes the Zot
16:46 to not attract to the balloon.
16:47 I don't know what it is, but they work with the other ones,
16:51 so this is the best method for lower quality balloons
16:54 and removing the gimmick and showing the balloon clean
16:57 at the end.
16:58 So let's get into method three.
17:01 Okay, so this is method three.
17:02 You need a couple small rare earth magnets,
17:06 some tape, a card, and another balloon.
17:10 Now you can use any kind of balloon for this one.
17:12 It doesn't have to be high quality or low quality.
17:14 So let's get into how to make this specific gimmick.
17:17 You're going to take the card,
17:20 and you're gonna fold it in half just like before.
17:23 Fold it down again.
17:26 Now you're gonna open it back up,
17:30 and you're going to stick the magnet
17:32 on one of the inside small sections,
17:36 so one of these top two smaller sections.
17:39 So any kind of tape you want.
17:41 Okay.
17:48 And then close it back, and there's your gimmick, okay?
17:56 So the only thing now to do is take the other magnet
18:00 and put it inside the balloon.
18:02 So you start with the balloon blown up,
18:04 and if you're worried about people seeing the magnet,
18:06 I used a lighter color balloon so you can see.
18:09 Just use a darker color balloon,
18:10 so a black balloon would work perfect.
18:12 So basically all the magnet is doing is
18:15 creating a connection between
18:20 the inside of the balloon and the outside.
18:22 So it'll stick to the balloon.
18:25 You can do the effect and remove the gimmick at the end
18:28 and hand out the balloon if you are comfortable
18:32 with a magnet being inside.
18:34 So this isn't my preferred way to do it,
18:37 but it's certainly a way to do it
18:39 without having any sticky stuff on the balloon.
18:42 Okay, so this is the setup.
18:43 You're going to have the gimmick in your back pocket
18:47 with the small edge facing outwards,
18:50 so it kind of just rests on the lip of your pocket.
18:54 And you have the balloon, and what you're gonna do is
18:57 you're going to reach in, reach to your back pocket,
19:02 and kind of slip your index finger behind the gimmick
19:07 like this, and then clip with your middle finger
19:11 so you can bring the whole gimmick out like that.
19:15 So one more time, you're gonna come in the back
19:17 with your index, pinch with your middle finger,
19:20 and kind of just keep it at your side.
19:23 That's all done behind your back, of course.
19:26 So when you're ready to connect the balloon to the gimmick,
19:28 you're going to bring the gimmick down to where
19:33 your hand would be coming out, okay,
19:35 so about your waistline, and all you're doing is just
19:39 kind of covering your hand coming up
19:41 and sticking to the magnet, okay?
19:45 Now, it's kind of noisy, so this is not the best one to do
19:47 in a quiet setting, but you just bring it down,
19:52 kind of cover your hand with the balloon,
19:58 and now you have the gimmick attached,
20:00 and you can move your hands freely.
20:01 And what also helps with the magnet version
20:05 is you can rotate the balloon,
20:07 and the gimmick will still stay straight up,
20:09 so when you're floating it, you could turn the balloon
20:12 in midair, and it would stay and not affect
20:15 the positioning of the gimmick, so it looks like this.
20:18 And then to take it off, basically the same way
20:30 as the other ways, the tape method,
20:33 and you just palm it off, basically.
20:37 So once you have it connected,
20:41 you're gonna bring it to your palm,
20:42 rotate it down, and it just palms right off, okay?
20:46 Okay, so there are a few angles you have to worry about.
20:50 Anyone on your side, either side, is a terrible idea,
20:55 so for obvious reasons, so just imagine a V,
21:00 with your arms, so you can put your elbows
21:02 in your side like this and just hold out your hands.
21:04 That's pretty much your angle limitations.
21:06 Anything past this is not a good angle.
21:10 So with that being said, it's a very cool floating balloon
21:15 with no thread or static or anything,
21:18 so hope you have some fun with it.
21:20 Okay, so let's get into the last method,
21:23 and probably the easiest way to do this.
21:27 The only thing you need is a Zot on the back
21:29 of your thumbnail, whichever thumb you want,
21:32 and a balloon, so you can have them blow up the balloon,
21:35 and what this performance looks like
21:37 is you're gonna float it in between your hands,
21:41 just like this, and it can float away or something.
21:46 So all I'm doing is I attached the Zot
21:50 to the back of the balloon with my thumb,
21:53 and basically all I'm doing is just letting go,
21:56 and it will hang right there on the Zot
22:00 and look like it's floating away,
22:01 and then you can reach out and grab it like that
22:05 or whatever you wanna do, and to get it off,
22:07 you just literally pull it off,
22:09 and now you have a booger on the back of your balloon,
22:10 so that's Halo, not the floor.
22:14 (balloon pops)
22:17 Holy.
22:18 (upbeat music)
22:21 (upbeat music)
22:23 (upbeat music)
22:26 (upbeat music)
22:29 (upbeat music)
22:32 (upbeat music)
22:35 (upbeat music)
22:37 (upbeat music)
22:40 (upbeat music)
22:42 (upbeat music)
