00:00 On this DVD, you'll see a clip of my 1980 appearance on Dale Harney's Magic Palace,
00:07 which was a weekly TV series filmed in Calgary, Alberta. You'll see a much younger version
00:13 of me, performing for a studio audience of very self-conscious children who are a bit
00:18 inhibited by the TV camera and lights. You'll also see an earlier version of my coloring
00:24 book routine, so you can compare it to how I perform today. If I could change one thing
00:30 about the performance, I wish I had performed at a much leisurely pace. I think I was too
00:35 excited to be there, and I was trying to transmit that excitement to my very small, very quiet
00:41 audience. But I'm including it so you can see that like fine wine, my performances and
00:47 routines have gotten better with age. You'll also see on this DVD my entire 50-minute,
00:54 two-person version of Magic Over the Rainbow. It was performed at Ruth Eckhart Hall in Florida
01:00 during the 1980s. It was a theater show written by my friend Michael Brandwein for the Children's
01:06 Theater Market. During the 1980s, my wife Jan Rose and I performed this at children's
01:12 theaters that held between 1,000 and 3,000 children. The kids came from daycare centers
01:18 and they came from schools bussed in to see the show. I'm including it in the DVD so you
01:25 can see how my basic family show was expanded to include sound, lighting, and a theatrical
01:32 storyline.
01:33 Good evening, ladies and gentlemen. My name is Dale Harney, and welcome to the Magic Palace.
01:41 Thank you. Thank you very much. Ladies and gentlemen, here at the Magic Palace, we try
01:48 and provide something for everyone. And we have all the youngsters that were in the audience
01:53 down here in front because we have an act right now that is for the child in each and
01:58 every one of us, especially, of course, for the children that are here. Relax, enjoy them.
02:03 Would you please welcome from Chicago, Mr. Danny Orlean.
02:10 Well, good evening, everybody. Good evening. I want to travel over the rainbow with you
02:14 a moment today, boys and girls, because if you travel over the rainbow, you see lots
02:17 of beautiful colors and lots of amazing things. And to do that, I have a special rainbow experiment
02:22 that I brought with me, a coloring book that I got last year from Santa Claus. It's a Christmas
02:27 coloring book, but I haven't had the opportunity to do any coloring at all because I've been
02:32 so busy doing magic shows. So I brought it with me today with the hope that some of you
02:36 would be some good colorers. Do we have any good colorers in the audience? Perhaps this
02:39 young man right here, would you like to come on up and help me with this magic trick? That's
02:43 good. What's your name?
02:44 Ezra.
02:45 Ezra, fine. How are you doing?
02:46 Good.
02:47 Stand over here on my right-hand side. Wonderful. That way the camera will see you on your left,
02:50 and it'll be all the much better. And that young lady right up here, what's your name?
02:54 Ophira.
02:55 Ophira, fine. What's the name of your cat, Ophira?
02:57 I don't know.
02:58 I don't know? That's a funny name, I don't know. I like Ophira better. Okay. You'll be
03:02 Ophira, and you'll be Ezra, and you'll help me. What do you color a coloring book with
03:05 when you're doing magic? What do you color a coloring book with?
03:09 Crayons.
03:10 Crayons? You're absolutely right. I brought with me a box of crayons. Eight large Crayola
03:14 crayons, the big crayon for the little finger, Binion Smith, non-toxic. Do you know what
03:20 non-toxic means? Do you know what non-toxic means? Non-toxic means that you can feed them
03:26 to your baby brother, and it won't hurt a bit. I'm just kidding. Don't do that. Will
03:32 you hold on to my crayons? We have eight colors. We have black, green, blue, purple, red, orange,
03:37 yellow, and brown. Eight crayons all together inside the box. I want you to raise your right
03:41 hand up high into the air, Ezra. Hold on. Okay, and I want you to hold on to the box.
03:45 You feel the crayons inside? Don't squash them. Just hold on. That's fine. And your
03:50 job is to hold on to the coloring book, okay? Now, to do this, we make what's called a coloring
03:54 book sandwich. Do you know what that is? I'll show you how you make one. One hand is like
03:59 this. This hand goes with the coloring book in the middle, and the other hand on top.
04:02 Don't eat the sandwich. Just hold on. Ready, everybody? I'm going to need your help on
04:06 the count of three. We're going to say the magic word, jumbo jellybeans. One, two, three.
04:11 Jumbo jellybeans. Here they go. You see that? That was the invisible red crayon jumping
04:15 from the box, traveling through the air and into the coloring book. Here it goes. There
04:20 goes the blue. Yellow. Green. Orange. Purple. Black. Brown. Did you see that happen? That's
04:27 because it was invisible. Did you feel the box get any lighter? You should have, because
04:32 look, all the crayons are now gone. Completely gone. And you can't see those anymore. And
04:39 do you know where they went? They jumped into the coloring book. You're not going to believe
04:46 this, Ezra, but inside the coloring book, we have every single color of every single
04:49 crayon, all beautifully colored in, because I have two very neat and careful colorers.
04:53 Look at that. On every single page, everything is absolutely beautiful. Absolutely gorgeous.
04:58 Isn't that wonderful? Color it. Hey! Scribble, scrabble. All over the place. I thought you
05:05 said you knew how to color. What happened? Do you color in school? Did you get a good
05:14 mark in coloring in school? Well, what happened here, Ezra, you were holding the crayons.
05:19 Was that your fault? Was it your fault? My fault? Now, wait a minute. I wasn't holding
05:26 the crayons. I wasn't holding the coloring book either. But maybe you're right. I think
05:32 we can remedy the situation. Would you make the coloring book sandwich again? Don't move.
05:35 Luckily, Ezra, you know what I brought that's going to help us fix the coloring book? A
05:38 special Magic Fix-It Magic Wand. And if you take the magic wand and just wave it over
05:42 the coloring book, it'll be all fixed up. So take the wand and wave it high over the
05:45 coloring book, just like that, and we'll fix it all up and it'll be beautiful, okay? Take
05:48 the wand and wave it high over the coloring book, do you understand? Then take the wand
05:51 and wave it low under the coloring book, like that, okay? Take the wand and wave it up and
05:54 down over and under the coloring book. Do you understand what to do, Ezra? Hold on.
05:56 Just wave it right over the coloring book. Just give it a good wave there and it'll be
05:59 all fixed up. Hey! Ezra! What happened? My wand! It's dead! I... Ezra, it happened while
06:06 you... I have an idea. Don't worry. Don't panic. Would you blow on the magic wand, please?
06:18 Just give it a puff. There. Now it's all fixed up and you can wave it over, okay? But please
06:21 be careful when you handle the props. Some children just don't know how to handle the
06:24 props, ladies and gentlemen. I don't really... Never mind. Never mind. You know what I brought
06:31 with me today? This'll work perfectly. Perhaps you know what it's called. Do you know what
06:35 this is called? Yeah. What's it called? A fan. A fan? No, no, no. In these days of energy
06:40 conservation, this has been reclassified. It is now called an air conditioner. And you
06:45 take the air conditioner and I just want you to wave it over the coloring book, okay? Take
06:48 it, open it up, open it up and just wave it right over the coloring book just like...
06:55 Ezra! What did you do with my air conditioner? What's so funny about that? Would you blow
07:03 on this, please? There. All fixed up. Okay, now you can just wave it right over, okay?
07:09 But please be careful and push the button first so it doesn't fall apart. Push the button.
07:13 Good. Open it up, wave it right over the coloring book and it'll be all fixed up. Just open
07:17 it up all the way or else you just don't create enough air in the air conditioner. All the
07:20 way and just wave it over. Ezra! Never mind. I have one more. How are you doing there? Don't
07:27 let go. You know, that's a pretty big coloring book so I brought this giant magic wand. It's
07:34 not a child bopper. It's a magic wand. If you take the wand and just wave it over, it'll
07:38 be all fixed up. Okay, hold on to the wand. Hold on real tight. You got it? Just wave
07:40 it right over the... Ezra, what did you... Hey! I said hold on to the wand. Well, hold
07:46 on to this one. Just hold on, okay? Just wave it right over the... Ezra, hold on to the
07:53 wand, okay? Just wave it right... Ezra, keep that wand right there, okay? Bend your head
07:56 down. Just wave them all over. And on the count of three, everybody say the magic word.
08:00 One, two, three. Jumbo Jelly Beans! And do you know what's happened? All the colors in
08:06 my Christmas coloring book have rearranged themselves. And on every single page, everything
08:10 is absolutely beautiful. Absolutely beautiful. And you can clap for my two helpers, Ezra
08:17 and Clearer for doing a very fine job. Thank you very much. You may go sit down and you
08:24 may go sit down. They did such a good job. Danny Orleans, ladies and gentlemen. That
08:29 concludes our program for this evening. Thank you for watching. Goodbye, everyone.
08:32 [applause]
08:39 [no audio]
08:48 Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, welcome to our special magical performance. And now,
08:54 give a warm welcome for Danny Orleans and Twinkle in Magic Over the Rainbow.
09:00 [applause]
09:12 Where can it be? Where would a magician hide something? Oh, in a magic can! Shh, magic
09:25 can. Oh, maybe this will do it. Magic dust. Ah-choo! Oh, oh.
09:54 Wait a minute. This is it. Magic words. Oh, boy. Now I can have everything on my birthday
10:04 list that I want. And I won't even have to shop for it. Let's see.
10:15 Poop. Poop. No, that's not a good one. Abracadabra. Oh, Abrabanana.
10:43 Twinkle, where are you? Danny, it's Danny Orleans. Hurry up, the show is starting. Boy,
10:49 I better hide this stuff. Oh, boy. Oh, boy. I better hide me. Twinkle, where's the music?
11:01 The music? I forgot the music. Twinkle. Twinkle, why aren't the curtains opening?
11:18 Whitney, this is serious. Where are you? I'm going to count to three. If you're not here,
11:24 I'm going to start the show without you. One, two, two and a half, three.
11:34 [music]
11:58 [music]
12:27 [music]
12:47 Thank you very much. Thank you. Thank you and good morning. Good morning. My name is
12:59 Danny Orleans and I'm glad you're here, each and every one of you, because you came at
13:05 a perfect time. A special time. A time to celebrate Twinkle's birthday. Today I'm going
13:12 to do some magic and you're going to do some magic. And Twinkle's going to do some magic.
13:20 Did you see her? Yeah. She was here a little while ago. I thought I heard her. And she
13:25 should be coming back right about now. Hi, Danny. What do you think I was looking for?
13:32 Well, it wasn't in that can. And you see, Danny, there was this sack and it was dark
13:37 and awful and all of a sudden I couldn't find my... Danny, I'm having a bad day. You see,
13:45 what I'm looking for, what I really need is a good magic word. Twinkle, I didn't mean
13:52 to tell you. I was just about to tell the boys and girls a good magic word. Oh, really?
13:57 As a matter of fact, you can learn it too. Let me show you. To make a good magic word,
14:00 you just need one of these. A little rainbow handkerchief. You take the little rainbow
14:07 handkerchief and you put it in here and snap three times. It'll turn white. See, it goes
14:16 in rainbow and comes out white. In rainbow, out white. In rainbow and out white. See?
14:24 Oh, Danny, I know how you do that. You use two handkerchiefs and the rainbow one is in
14:32 your left hand. Right? You're right, Twinkle. It's in here, right? No, Twinkle, it's not.
14:42 See, Twinkle, you don't keep it here. You keep it in your pocket where nobody can see
14:47 it. See? It doesn't have to be in the pocket. It could be over here if you want it to be
14:54 over here. See? Or it doesn't have to be in this hand at all. It could be over here in
15:01 this hand. Or, Twinkle, as a matter of fact, you take both handkerchiefs together, the
15:07 white one and the rainbow. Put them both in rainbow and white, rainbow and white, rainbow
15:11 and white, rainbow and white. And squeeze real hard. Will you blow on it for me? Then
15:17 like snowflakes on a sunny day, they just disappear forever.
15:22 [applause]
15:29 Oh, Danny, now I'm just so confused. I can't remember whether I'm looking for handkerchiefs
15:34 or... No, no, I'm still looking for a good magic word.
15:41 Twinkle, maybe you can find both.
15:44 Both? Ha! I know, your pocket, right?
15:49 Wait!
16:00 Ta-da! Look at that, Twinkle.
16:04 Oh, wow, Danny. Jumbo jelly beans of all these colors.
16:10 Twinkle, that's it.
16:12 That's what? The magic word you just said.
16:15 Jumbo jelly beans?
16:16 Yes, it's a beautiful magic word. Let's try it on the count of three. You guys can help
16:20 really loud. Ready? One, two, three.
16:22 Jumbo jelly beans.
16:24 Terrific!
16:25 Oh, I don't know, Danny.
16:27 What?
16:28 That lady sitting over there?
16:30 Yeah?
16:31 She didn't say anything.
16:35 Teacher, you're going to be in trouble.
16:41 Let's try it again really loud this time. Ready, boys and girls?
16:46 And grown-ups, feel free to regress and join in the fun. Ready? Here we go. Really loud.
16:50 One, two, three.
16:52 Jumbo jelly beans.
16:55 That was fabulous. Boy, if you keep that up, we're going to do some great magic right here
17:00 today. Right, Twinkle?
17:03 Twinkle?
17:05 She's gone.
17:08 Good. I want to tell you a secret. All year long, Twinkle's been a great assistant and
17:15 a wonderful friend, so I wanted to get her something really special for her birthday.
17:20 Would you like to see it?
17:22 Yeah.
17:23 I'll show it to you. I promise not to tell.
17:28 Yeah.
17:45 An old magic wand given to me by a very old magician. He told me it was the most powerful
17:54 wand in the world. Now, I've never tried it before, but let's try it here today, okay,
18:01 before I give it to Twinkle. You can help me on the count of three. One.
18:05 Two.
18:06 I was just thinking, I don't know what's going to happen. You may want to hold on to your
18:12 ears. One. And if you're sitting in the front row, you may want to hold on to your toes.
18:21 One, two, three.
18:25 [Screaming]
18:41 That's not a good idea. Let me find something else for Twinkle. I'll be right back.
18:47 Oh, boy. Oh, boy. Now that I have a good magic wand, I know, I know, I can make this flower
18:56 bloom. One, two, three. Jumbo jelly beans.
19:04 [Screaming]
19:20 Oh, boy. Oh, boy. Am I excited. Look what I have.
19:26 Do you know what this is?
19:28 No.
19:29 What's that on the front there?
19:31 No, no, no, that's the rubber duck.
19:36 Twinkle loves the color. So I got her this coloring book. She's going to -- is anybody
19:42 here good at coloring?
19:43 Yeah.
19:45 Oh, good, good. Just checking, hands down, just checking.
19:50 Oh, I think I also have a box of --
19:55 Crayola crayons.
19:56 Crayola crayons. Eight large Crayola crayons. Big crayons for little fingers, non-toxic.
20:02 Who knows what non-toxic means? Yes, that young lady there.
20:06 Tax.
20:07 Absolutely right. You don't have to pay tax on them.
20:11 No, it means that they're not poisonous. So you can take them home and feed them to your
20:16 baby brother and it won't hurt a bit.
20:20 I'm just kidding.
20:22 So I have blue, green, yellow, red, orange, purple, and black. Eight crayons in the box.
20:26 One coloring book. I need two children to help me color it for Twinkle. Oh, she'll be
20:30 so excited. Children sitting down, children sitting quietly. I always pick quiet-sitting
20:36 children. See, I want that young lady right there with the blonde hair and the little
20:39 hearts on her shirt. Yes, will you come up here? And I need a young man to help her as
20:43 well. Someone sitting down and quietly. I want this young man right there in the red
20:47 striped shirt with the red and the white and red and white and the red and the white and
20:50 the red and the white striped shirt. Let's give them both a big round of applause.
20:53 [applause]
20:58 Hi, can you stand over there on those red dots?
21:01 Great helpers. What's your name?
21:03 David.
21:04 David. Good to meet you, David. Thanks for...
21:07 [laughter]
21:16 David, are you good at coloring?
21:18 Yeah.
21:19 Neat and careful?
21:20 Never make a mess?
21:21 Good, I can tell you're a very smart young man. What's your name?
21:24 Katie.
21:25 Katie, good to meet you. She could do it. Are you good at coloring, Katie? Neat and
21:30 careful? Never make a mess? You do make a mess? Not today. Each of my helpers is a very
21:38 important job. David, do you know what your job is?
21:41 What?
21:42 To hold the book. Now, David, when you hold the book, you put one hand underneath the
21:46 book and one hand on top of the book. That way the book goes right in the middle, making
21:51 a little coloring book sandwich. Sort of like this. Perfect. One hand on top, right
22:01 there. I knew you could do it. Katie, your job is very important, also. You get to hold
22:07 on to the crayons. Katie, do you remember how many crayons are in the box?
22:10 Eight.
22:11 Right. You see them? Brown, blue, green, yellow, red, orange, purple, and black. Raise
22:17 your right hand up high into the air. Hold on. We're going to make the crayons jump
22:24 from the box, travel through the air, and fill the book with color. You ready?
22:29 Mm-hmm.
22:30 I love children that get real excited. Here we go. Ready? Did you see that?
22:40 You did it. That was the invisible red crayon, David. You have to watch more carefully. Watch
22:47 again. Here we go, David. Look over here. You see that one? David, that was the blue.
22:54 David, you have to use your imagination, okay?
22:57 Okay. Here we go.
22:59 I'm not sure I can do it.
23:02 You see that one?
23:04 How did you know?
23:06 I don't know.
23:10 Purple to green, purple to orange, purple to purple, purple to black, purple to brown.
23:13 Katie, did you feel the crayons leave the box? You didn't. You should have, because
23:17 look, they're gone. Do you know where they went? They went right inside the coloring
23:27 book. Look at this. On every single page, all the coloring is now absolutely beautiful.
23:33 And you can do the photographic effect.
23:37 [Applause]
23:44 Wait a minute! David, this isn't your fault, is it?
23:48 No.
23:49 Katie, it's not your fault? Well, if it's not your fault, then not your fault, then
23:52 whose fault is it?
23:54 Mine.
23:57 How quickly they turn on you. You may be right, but I bet you guys can help me figure
24:02 this out. Will you help me?
24:04 Yeah.
24:05 Will you help me? Thanks, because Twinkle really likes this coloring book. I know she's
24:08 going to love it. So put one hand underneath and the other hand on top. Don't put any peanut
24:12 butter on it.
24:13 [Laughter]
24:15 Lucky for you.
24:17 Lucky for me. I brought something with me today to fix the scribble scrabble. Want to
24:22 see it? It's the Magician's Emergency Magic Kit, and I have it right here. And this will
24:28 work. We'll fix everything with it. I know this will work just great. Here we go. Do
24:33 you know what this is?
24:34 Fan.
24:35 That's right. It's one of my fans.
24:38 Aw.
24:39 There are some grown-up jokes, but you have to listen. You take this fan and you wave
24:43 it over the book three times. Katie, like this. One, two. Oh, keep your hair still there,
24:47 David. Don't move your hair. You wave it three times over the book. One, two. Stop that.
24:51 [Laughter]
24:53 Take the fan, open it up, wave it over the book. One, two, three.
24:58 [Laughter]
25:07 Katie, Katie, that's okay. You have toys at home, right? And they break sometimes, don't
25:14 they? I can tell.
25:16 [Laughter]
25:18 We can fix it, though. I'll show you how to do it. It's not hard to do. Would you just
25:21 blow on this for me? Wait! Did you brush your teeth today?
25:24 [Laughter]
25:27 Good. You did it. Now listen, when you open this up, you have to open it slow. Because
25:36 if you open it too quickly, you know what happens?
25:38 It breaks.
25:39 It breaks. Right. So open it slow. Get it? And you wave it three times. One, two. Keep
25:49 your hair still, David.
25:51 [Laughter]
25:52 Slow. That's right, Katie. And then you wave it up and down and up and down.
25:57 [Laughter]
26:00 What happened? No, no, no. You just have to do it slow.
26:05 [Laughter]
26:11 Wait! This will do it. Katie, don't worry about a thing. Look what I have.
26:15 [Laughter]
26:17 A giant crayon. If you take this crayon, touch it to the book, it'll all be filled
26:21 with the beautiful colors. You just take it, just touch it right over there.
26:23 [Laughter]
26:26 Whoo!
26:27 [Laughter]
26:32 You're having a bad day, aren't you?
26:34 [Laughter]
26:38 Yeah, look! This will do it. Finally, a giant magic wand. And it will not break because
26:42 listen! It's solid. Hold it up real high. Wave it over the book like this.
26:48 [Laughter]
26:52 Hold this one up over there. Turn around. Face your friends. Wave them both over the
26:56 book like this.
26:57 [Laughter]
26:59 And wait. Put one over here, one over there, one over here, one over there, and one over
27:05 here. Good. Katie, you have enough magic powers to do this, Amy. Walk over to the
27:11 coloring book. Wave the magic wands over the book. All of them.
27:18 [Laughter]
27:20 Everybody say, "Jumbo Jelly Beans!"
27:23 [Cheers]
27:25 Katie, take three steps backwards. One, two, three. If this worked correctly, and I
27:29 hope it did, all the colors in the book will have rearranged themselves and now
27:32 everything should be...
27:34 [Audience "Awws"]
27:37 Let's give a big round of applause for Maggie.
27:41 [Applause]
27:47 Great coloring job. David, thanks so much. Let's give David a big round of
27:51 applause. You go back to your seat, David.
27:54 Katie, you were wonderful. Thank you. Go back to your seat.
27:59 This is fabulous! Thanks to you wonderful children out there who did a great
28:04 coloring job and said the magic word, we have a great coloring book for Twinkle.
28:08 All colored in. She'll take this home, take out her crayons, and color every
28:13 single page.
28:16 She gave colored presents already colored.
28:19 This is no good. This is no good. A good present isn't something you just give to
28:24 somebody. It has to be something with which they can do something and have fun
28:28 and use their imagination. This is all colored in. But that's all. I have to get
28:35 her something else. This is no good at all.
28:38 Oh, you know what they say. First you don't succeed, try, try again.
28:49 Jumbo jelly beans!
29:02 I'm going to pull a rabbit out of the hat. Jumbo jelly beans!
29:25 Throw it out!
29:34 Twinkle, Twinkle, I've been trying to find you a birthday present and I just
29:38 don't know what to get.
29:41 What's that?
29:43 Silver chicken.
29:46 Twinkle, Twinkle.
29:49 I'm sorry, but it's not my fault. You see, I've been trying to do magic and I've
29:55 been saying the magic word.
29:57 Good.
29:58 But it's not working.
30:00 How come?
30:02 Well, Twinkle, sometimes saying a magic word isn't enough. Sometimes you can feel
30:07 the magic inside. That's what's really...
30:10 Twinkle.
30:12 It won't work with gum in your mouth.
30:14 Why don't you give me the gum and try again?
30:19 Thanks.
30:24 Twinkle, let me have it.
30:30 No!
30:35 It's not funny.
30:41 Does anybody want any of this gum?
30:52 Yes.
30:57 It's so sticky.
31:08 See, Twinkle, saying a magic word isn't what's important. You have to feel it.
31:13 That's what's important.
31:14 Oh, that's what's important. You have to feel the magic to make it work.
31:18 You have to feel it.
31:20 No, Twinkle, no. Not feeling the balloon.
31:22 Twinkle, Twinkle, not feeling the balloon.
31:25 Feeling the magic inside.
31:27 If anybody could just do magic by saying a magic word, then anybody could pull a
31:32 rabbit out of a hat.
31:37 Thanks, Danny. I love rabbits.
31:41 Twinkle, Twinkle, I have enough rabbits, thank you. I don't need any more.
31:45 Jumbo jelly beans.
31:53 Twinkle, what's that in your hand?
31:55 Huh? Nothing.
31:57 Now the other hand.
31:59 Nothing.
32:01 Twinkle, both hands at the same time.
32:06 Nothing.
32:08 I guess I was just seeing an optical illusion.
32:11 Right, Danny. It was an optical illusion. That's what.
32:15 Twinkle, that is.
32:17 Oh, Danny.
32:20 Twinkle's birthday present list.
32:27 Cabbage patch doll.
32:31 Michael Jackson.
32:35 Go-Bots and Transformers.
32:40 Twinkle, these are great presents.
32:43 But even a magician can't make all these appear.
32:47 Oh, Danny.
32:49 I guess I'll never be able to have these presents then because I'm not a very good magician.
32:55 I mean, I'm a magical misfit.
32:59 Twinkle, that's not true. You're not a misfit.
33:01 Twinkle, it's your birthday. There's magic everywhere. You can do this.
33:04 I know, I know. Maybe if I put them into the magic hat, right?
33:07 No.
33:08 Or, why, in the bucket, the magic bucket.
33:10 No, Twinkle. Come here.
33:13 Twinkle, sit down.
33:16 Twinkle, magic buckets and hats, they're just props.
33:22 Magic's in the props.
33:24 No, Twinkle, the magic's in you.
33:27 When you say the magic word, feel the magic inside of you.
33:31 And you can do it.
33:33 Okay, Danny, here goes.
33:36 Jumbo Jelly Beans!
33:41 Good, Twinkle.
33:42 How was that?
33:43 Good.
33:44 Twinkle, try again and make some motions with your hands.
33:48 Motions.
33:50 Jumbo Jelly Beans!
33:54 Good, good. Look, you're back.
33:57 Twinkle, don't give up. Try, try again.
34:00 Let me try again.
34:01 Jumbo Jelly Beans!
34:10 Oh, oh, Jumbo Belly Flop.
34:14 Oh, I'm sorry, Danny Orleans, but you're wrong.
34:17 I don't believe it. I don't believe it.
34:20 That even with, with Jumbo Jelly Beans,
34:25 that these itsy bitsy pieces are ever going to...
34:30 Twinkle! Ever?
34:31 Twinkle!
34:32 Twinkle, you did it!
34:34 Danny!
34:35 Wow, Danny, it worked, it worked!
34:37 Oh, thank you, Magic, you did wonderful.
34:40 And so are you, Twinkle.
34:42 I knew she could do it.
34:44 She felt the magic inside of you.
34:46 I still gotta get her a present.
34:48 This is not good.
34:50 Wait, that wand.
34:51 We'll get that wand to work now.
34:53 We all can feel the magic.
34:55 We'll get this to work.
34:56 We can do it.
34:57 Get ready. On the count of three.
34:59 One, two, three.
35:02 [Screaming]
35:17 It's not funny.
35:19 [Screaming]
35:26 Uh, uh, I, I know.
35:32 The bucket.
35:35 The bucket isn't magic, but some of you are.
35:38 And maybe some of you can help me get a present for Twinkle.
35:40 Maybe a boy or a girl that's sitting down and quietly.
35:44 A boy or a girl sitting down with two pigtails.
35:51 Any boys or girls with pigtails?
35:53 No.
35:54 Any boys with pigtails?
35:56 No.
35:57 Any girls with pigtails?
35:59 Two long pigtails, let's see.
36:01 Two long pigtails.
36:03 Wow, look, I don't get any yellow shirt monster pigtails.
36:07 Bring your pigtails up here.
36:09 She's a member of the A team, I see.
36:12 Give her a big round of applause.
36:15 Right up on the stage.
36:17 Left, right, left.
36:19 Stand right there on the -- I need a young man to help me, too.
36:21 Someone sitting down.
36:23 Someone sitting quietly.
36:25 Let's see, I want that young man right there in the red shirt.
36:29 Me?
36:30 No, no, no, this young man I pointed to right here.
36:32 Yeah, walk right up here.
36:34 We'll take both of them, that's okay.
36:36 Here they come. Left, right, left.
36:38 Would you stand -- and that young man, too.
36:39 Both of you, yes.
36:40 Would you stand right over there?
36:42 Look at those three great helpers.
36:43 Give them a big round of applause right here in front of you.
36:45 [applause]
36:48 Look at these three wonderful -- what's your name?
36:50 Peter.
36:51 Peter, I'm glad you made it today.
36:52 Thanks for coming.
36:53 What's your name?
36:54 Chucky.
36:55 Chucky, your job is to hold on to the bucket.
36:56 Look inside the bucket, Chucky.
36:57 Do you see anything?
36:58 No.
36:59 Do you see the bottom?
37:00 No.
37:01 That's something.
37:03 Show the inside of the bucket over there to that teacher sitting over there.
37:06 Right there.
37:08 Now show all the rest of the 300 or 400 kids that are here today.
37:12 Turn your body slowly, slowly.
37:14 There's lots of kids.
37:16 Show Miss Pigtails 1985.
37:18 Turn back.
37:20 Look inside again.
37:21 Do you see anything now?
37:22 No.
37:23 Do you see the bottom?
37:24 No.
37:25 It's still there.
37:26 Don't forget.
37:27 You brought the pigtails.
37:29 What's your name?
37:30 Lois.
37:31 Lois, I'm glad you remembered the pigtails.
37:37 Chucky, I'll take the bucket.
37:44 Peter, would you please stand with your elbow like this?
37:49 In order to find money for Twinkle, you have to listen.
37:55 One, two.
37:58 Take it out there, Peter.
38:04 Take it out there, Peter.
38:07 Hold that coin up high so everybody can see.
38:14 Do you know what kind of coin that is?
38:16 Yes, sir.
38:17 That's right.
38:18 It's a silver dollar.
38:20 You did that very well.
38:21 Look.
38:22 There's another one, you know, right there behind your ear.
38:29 How many is that?
38:30 Two.
38:31 Two.
38:32 Do you see them both?
38:33 Yes, sir.
38:34 There's another one behind your shoulder.
38:35 How many is that?
38:36 Three.
38:37 How many do you see?
38:38 Three.
38:39 Three.
38:40 That's right.
38:41 Chucky, how many do you see?
38:42 Three.
38:43 How many?
38:44 Three.
38:45 Are you sure?
38:46 Yes.
38:47 Look again.
38:48 Wait a minute, Chucky.
38:49 Put your ear in there.
38:50 My goodness.
38:51 One, two, three.
38:52 Four, five silver dollars.
39:05 Do you know when you woke up this morning, you forgot to blow your nose.
39:10 But I'm glad you came.
39:18 And Lois, I'm glad you made it too because you brought the pigtails.
39:24 One pigtail on the left.
39:25 You have to wind them up first.
39:27 And one on the right.
39:38 This one's broken.
39:44 Chucky, would you hold on to this pigtail?
39:47 Here we go.
39:48 Ready, Chucky?
39:49 Lift the pigtail up.
39:50 No, don't drop it.
39:51 Lift the pigtail up and down.
39:55 Great.
39:56 Look at all this money, Lois.
40:01 Look, Lois.
40:04 There's another invisible coin.
40:06 Do you see it?
40:07 No.
40:08 No, you can't.
40:09 But, Peter, you can catch it.
40:10 Catch.
40:11 You got it?
40:12 Throw it in the bucket.
40:14 There's another one right here.
40:19 Lois, take the coin and throw it up high into the air.
40:22 Throw it high into the air.
40:24 Not that high.
40:26 Stop, Lois.
40:29 Take your foot and go.
40:31 There's another one right here.
40:37 Ready, Chucky?
40:39 Catch.
40:40 Got it?
40:41 Yep.
40:42 Show it to everybody.
40:43 Chucky, there's nothing there.
40:47 Do you know why?
40:49 Why?
40:50 It fell in your pocket.
40:51 Oh.
40:52 Reach inside.
40:53 Do you feel it?
40:54 No.
40:55 Feel around.
40:56 Feel around in that pocket there.
40:59 Do you feel it now?
41:00 No.
41:01 Take it out.
41:02 Oh.
41:03 There it is.
41:04 Hold it up high so everybody can see it.
41:05 You did a great job.
41:12 The three of you have been absolutely wonderful.
41:17 Look at all this money you have.
41:18 Listen, Chucky, would you do me a favor tomorrow?
41:21 What?
41:22 After you wake up, after you wash your face and brush your teeth, don't forget to blow your nose.
41:30 Oh, my goodness, that's a lot of money, isn't it?
41:40 And Peter, when you wake up, be sure to look behind your ear because you never know what you can...
41:45 Peter, it's growing.
41:53 One more round of applause for my three helpers.
42:09 Well, this is a wink.
42:11 We have money for twink.
42:14 You know, my mother used to tell me that if you give money as a present,
42:17 then when the person goes to the store to buy whatever they want, it's not really a surprise.
42:23 This really isn't going to work so well.
42:26 I have to find something else.
42:29 This isn't going to work so well, is it?
42:33 I'll be right back.
42:38 Oh, boy, oh, boy, oh, boy.
42:42 Well, now that I have learned to feel the magic,
42:46 I'm going to take all my birthday presents and wrap them all up.
42:51 And this year, I'll...
42:53 In fact, in fact, even my wrapping paper will be magical this year.
43:01 Jumbo!
43:03 [Students cheering]
43:12 It worked.
43:17 Oh, great.
43:22 Time.
43:24 Black.
43:27 One, two, three.
43:32 Jumbo jellies!
43:35 [Students cheering]
43:43 Oh, god, gee.
43:47 I wish, I wish, I wish I could be a great magician like Danny Orleans.
43:56 I wish I could make boys and girls smile and people happy.
44:01 Oh, I wish, I wish I could make that flower bloom.
44:10 One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten, eleven, twelve, thirteen, fourteen, fifteen, sixteen, seventeen, eighteen, nineteen, twenty, twenty-twelve, twenty-one, twenty-two, twenty-three, twenty-four, twenty-five, twenty-six...
44:21 Oh, I wish.
44:27 [Magic sparkles]
44:31 [Music]
44:57 [Music]
45:05 [Music]
45:15 [Music]
45:23 [Music]
45:33 [Music]
45:43 [Music]
46:11 [Music]
46:27 Here we go. Here we go.
46:30 Danny! Danny, look! It worked! You were right! Dreams do come true!
46:36 Danny, Danny, I'm ready. I can do big magic!
46:41 Danny, teach me. Show me how to use...
46:45 No, Dringo, no, no, no! Hold your ears!
46:47 [Screaming]
47:04 It's not funny!
47:11 Ah, well, maybe you're right.
47:15 Boy, that scared me. You know, this is a problem. I don't know what to get her. I can't get the wand to work and the coloring book and the...
47:21 Sometimes, sometimes when you have a problem, it really helps to talk it over with somebody.
47:28 It really helps to find somebody really nice and helpful sitting quietly in their seats, sitting flat with their legs crossed in front of them.
47:42 Let's see, I need just the perfect person to talk this over with.
47:46 I know there's somebody out there who can help me figure out what to get Twinkle for a present.
47:52 It must be somebody sitting quietly.
47:57 That young man there, you're sitting and you're smiling. What's your name?
48:00 Whitney, come on up and talk.
48:02 Tell me your name again.
48:04 Whitney, this is Whitney, boys and girls. Let's give Whitney a big round of applause.
48:11 Whitney, this is great. Make a little room amongst Twinkle's garden here. We'll have a little talk here.
48:17 Whitney, I need your help. You see, Twinkle is my best friend.
48:21 All year long, she's been a great assistant. I have to get her a great present. It has to be something magical and something fun and something she can play with.
48:29 Wait!
48:31 Whitney, you look like a fun person. Are you fun? Do you have a lot of friends?
48:36 I bet. If I gave you to Twinkle, she'd have lots of fun with you, okay?
48:42 We'll wrap you up and she can take you home.
48:44 Hold still, hold still. Stand right there.
48:47 Oh, this is going to be great. I have a bowl, some wrapping paper here. This is really great, boys and girls.
48:54 Hold still, Whitney. We'll just put this right on him. Doesn't he look great over there?
48:59 Oh, thank you.
49:01 [audience laughter]
49:05 Here you go.
49:07 [audience laughter]
49:11 Put the device there on him.
49:13 [audience laughter]
49:18 Whitney, you're pretty magical. You could be a magician, you're so magical.
49:23 Wait a minute, Whitney. Wait, I have an idea. If we make you the present, we should really put you in a box, okay?
49:31 So we'll wrap you up. We'll open the curtains. I have a box here for Whitney. Great, this will be terrific.
49:38 Whitney, this is going to be good. Take your shoes off, make yourself comfortable.
49:43 We'll put Whitney in the box and when Twinkle comes out, she'll be really surprised.
49:49 Here we go, Whitney.
49:51 Here you go, Whitney. Just hop right inside there.
49:54 Make yourself comfortable. Sit nice and flat.
49:57 Terrific, Whitney.
49:59 There you go.
50:01 Good, Whitney. Wave to everybody.
50:04 [audience laughter]
50:07 Hold still in there, Whitney. This is good.
50:10 Whitney will be hiding in the box and when Twinkle comes out, she'll see the box.
50:13 She'll know it's a birthday present for me. She'll open it up and there will be Whitney.
50:17 Oh boy, we'll decorate it a little bit here.
50:20 We'll put this bow. That's good.
50:22 Twinkle will be really surprised, won't you think?
50:25 Let's see how Whitney is doing here.
50:27 Whitney, you look pretty good.
50:29 You know what, Whitney? You need to be a little more magical looking.
50:33 So hold still, okay? We'll say the magic word, alright?
50:36 Okay, hold still. Here we go. One, two, three.
50:39 [audience shouts]
50:42 Nothing worked yet. A little louder.
50:46 [audience shouts]
50:49 It's beginning to work. One more time.
50:52 [audience shouts]
50:56 Wow, I can't believe it. Look. Whitney turned into...
51:00 [audience laughter]
51:02 A rabbit. Oh, this is great.
51:04 Whitney, look at this. Whitney is a live rabbit.
51:07 This is wonderful.
51:08 Boy, oh boy. Twinkle's going to take him home and play a great game with him.
51:14 Feed him carrots and celery.
51:16 What's that, Whitney?
51:19 Whitney doesn't like carrots and celery.
51:21 What do you mean you don't like...what?
51:23 Your shoes? Your shoes are fine.
51:25 Look, Whitney. See, your shoes fit perfect.
51:28 [audience laughter]
51:30 You're right. They're too big.
51:32 This is a great...what, Whitney?
51:34 Alright, Whitney. We'll turn you back into a little boy.
51:37 He likes being a rabbit, but he's going to miss his friends and his teacher.
51:42 I'll put you back, Whitney. It's okay. Everything will be okay.
51:44 Don't worry. It was a good idea while it lasted, Whitney.
51:47 But I know Twinkle would like you, but I understand perfectly.
51:50 Back inside the box. Just hold still. We'll turn you back.
51:53 Okay? Here we go. Ready?
51:55 [audience shouts]
51:58 We have to say the magic word backwards to make it go backwards.
52:01 And you say, "Beans, jelly, jumbo."
52:04 Ready? One, two, three.
52:05 Beans, jelly, jumbo!
52:08 And if it worked correctly, and I hope it did,
52:10 Whitney the rabbit should be turned back into...
52:14 Whitney the boy! There he is!
52:16 Give him a big round of applause.
52:18 Whitney, that was terrific.
52:20 Stand up here a minute, Whitney.
52:22 Let me see something. Hold it. Wait. I've got to check.
52:25 Whitney, they're still a little furry, but it'll be gone tomorrow.
52:30 Let's give Whitney a big round of applause.
52:33 [audience shouts]
52:38 Boy, oh boy. We'll have a little light for Whitney.
52:41 [audience shouts]
52:43 Boy, oh boy. That was a close one, wasn't it?
52:46 [audience shouts]
52:50 Well, boys and girls, I was just thinking here.
52:55 We tried really hard to get Twinkle a perfect dress,
52:58 but there's somewhere there's a secret,
53:01 and I'm going to find that secret to getting the perfect gift.
53:04 I'll be right back.
53:07 Secret? That's it? That's what the matter?
53:11 I don't know the secret.
53:13 To get all the presents on my list,
53:17 let's know the secret.
53:21 That's it? That's it.
53:23 Danny, secret magic box.
53:26 Why didn't I think of it before?
53:29 Oh, boy. Surely I'll be able to find the magic secret in here.
53:34 Oh, this'll be great.
53:38 [audience shouts]
53:42 Box.
53:44 [audience shouts]
53:50 Secret.
53:52 You said a secret.
53:56 Wow.
53:59 Empty.
54:02 I don't get it.
54:04 It's a big box, and it says secret.
54:08 Why?
54:10 So why? So why?
54:12 [audience shouts]
54:15 Oh, no. Oh, what did I get?
54:18 [audience shouts]
54:22 Twinkle. Twinkle.
54:24 Twinkle, are you okay?
54:26 Oh, no. She took the wand.
54:29 She did the box.
54:31 The box. There it is. It says secret.
54:34 That's what I was looking for, but I found out something important.
54:37 If you look in a box of secrets, your eyes will fall out.
54:42 So never do that. I'm going to close this box up
54:45 because I don't want anybody to look in by accident.
54:48 I wouldn't want Twinkle to look inside.
54:51 We'll lock it up.
54:56 Oh, look. There's some locks.
54:58 We'll lock it to be sure.
55:04 I can't hear you. What?
55:08 If you guys have something to tell me, you should speak up.
55:13 [audience shouts]
55:16 Wait a minute. I hear something.
55:19 [audience shouts]
55:21 It's who?
55:23 [audience shouts]
55:24 Twinkle, did you know she was in here?
55:26 [audience shouts]
55:27 Well, why didn't you tell me?
55:29 [audience shouts]
55:31 Well, I couldn't hear you.
55:34 Wait a minute. Wait a minute.
55:37 Twinkle, it's okay. Twinkle.
55:39 All right. We'll get a box smasher.
55:41 Twinkle, there must be a box smasher somewhere.
55:43 Somebody to help me.
55:44 Over there. Somebody really strong.
55:47 Sir, right there. Sir, hurry up there. Hurry up.
55:50 You've got Twinkle suffocating in the box.
55:53 Give him a big round of applause.
55:55 [audience shouts]
55:58 Hurry up up there, sir.
55:59 Keep the box right there.
56:01 Give it a kick. Kick.
