00:00 Hard Chat
00:02 Welcome to Hard Chat. I'm joined by celebrity Sophie Mung. Thanks for joining me. Oh, thanks for having me. Let's chat. Hard!
00:09 Wow, that was aggressive. You're an actor, singer, model,
00:13 radio presenter, brand ambassador. Yeah. When you're at the airport and you go through immigration,
00:19 Yeah. Under profession, do you put trying to be famous? I actually have worked in celebrity once.
00:23 Oh. But I just put entertainer, which usually they'll think I'm a stripper.
00:27 (Laughter)
00:29 You started out as a Marilyn Monroe impersonator. Yes. Now she died when she was 36 and you're 37.
00:38 I know, I'm glad about that. Is that why your career died a year ago?
00:41 (Laughter)
00:43 It's doing better than it was a few years ago. That was sad.
00:47 You know when you hit the, then you go down, then you go up. So I'm trying to get lots of free stuff at the moment.
00:52 Just in case I lose it again.
00:54 Yeah, sensible.
00:56 You were discovered through one of the very first reality shows, Pop Stars.
01:00 Yes. Do you wish that you waited until a reality show came out that people actually remember?
01:05 (Laughter)
01:07 I'm in one now, a cooler one. What one would you prefer? Bachelorette. I'm very single. Oh, okay.
01:14 Do they have celebrity bachelorettes? No, they don't. But I could be the first.
01:21 Yeah, or you could just wait until your career slid a bit further and you became
01:25 more obscure.
01:26 Yeah. And people would just think you're a regular person, then you could go back on it again.
01:29 That's a good idea.
01:31 Would you ever be part of a Bardo reunion?
01:33 I'd love to, but it's hard work. Yeah, you'd have to drive past Centrelink to pick them up, I think.
01:40 (Laughter)
01:42 Well, some of them probably aren't at Centrelink, because you can just log on now to the website. You don't have to go in.
01:47 I'm not sure.
01:49 In 2003, you released your first and only solo album, Calendar Girl.
01:53 Yes. What did you do with the money from the copy you sold?
01:56 (Laughter)
01:58 Actually, I bought 5,000 copies myself, because no one was buying it.
02:02 Oh. Yeah. It wasn't a great song, really, was it?
02:05 I don't remember any songs on the album, do you?
02:07 Yes. Inside Outside.
02:09 (Sings) 'Cause you're inside, outside, under my skin.
02:13 Okay, that's enough.
02:15 It was more than enough at the time, when it was released.
02:17 Oh, okay, fair enough. I had a flashback.
02:19 You worked a lot in radio.
02:21 Yes.
02:23 You worked with Kyle and Jackie O.
02:25 Why?
02:27 Because they're legends. And look at all their listeners. People just love them.
02:31 I'm not sure I agree with you, but anyway.
02:35 Jesus.
02:37 You campaigned with PETA to stop cruelty to animals.
02:39 Was that by getting animals to not listen to Kyle and Jackie O?
02:43 (Laughter)
02:45 I've heard their show. It could kill a cat.
02:47 You don't like pop culture, though, do you? You like more smart things.
02:51 Like the news.
02:53 Yeah, I like the news.
02:55 I don't like learning.
02:57 Oh, that's why you like Kyle and Jackie O.
02:59 You just like to go in there.
03:01 Have fun.
03:03 Come out knowing less than when you walked in.
03:05 The more you know, the more depressed you are.
03:07 I'm not coming off super smart, am I?
03:09 Yeah, it's almost as if you're not.
03:11 Yeah.
03:13 People think I'm smart.
03:15 My school actually said I had a very high IQ and went and checked it.
03:19 A few days later I asked her what my IQ was and she said, "No, it was low."
03:23 (Laughter)
03:25 Am I giving you the right shit?
03:27 You are giving me the great shit.
03:29 Lauren, I don't laugh during all of them, do I?
03:33 Last year you were on the eighth season of Australia's Got Talent,
03:37 which was also the final season. Coincidence?
03:39 (Laughter)
03:41 Did you drive that franchise into the ground?
03:43 I'm starting to think I don't make things number one, do I?
03:47 They kind of end.
03:49 But everything ends.
03:51 Like a therapy session.
03:53 Everything ends, though.
03:55 I have a feeling this segment won't come back after you.
03:57 Really?
03:59 I think this is a great segment.
04:01 Sophie Mung, thanks for chatting.
04:03 (Applause)
04:05 (Music)
04:09 (upbeat music)
