00:00 Outside the Mpondwe police station, parents were anxiously waiting for news of their children.
00:06 Days after the horrific attack on a school in western Uganda,
00:10 many still didn't know whether they should grieve or remain hopeful.
00:14 As a parent, mine is not yet found.
00:19 So I'm still waiting, I'm there in the safe space,
00:23 whether the rebels have taken her
00:27 or we don't know whether they have killed her in the way.
00:32 The barbaric attack was one of Uganda's deadliest in recent years.
00:37 Suspected Islamist militants stormed the Lubirira secondary school on Friday,
00:42 setting fire to a dorm and attacking victims with knives and machetes.
00:47 Authorities recovered 42 bodies so far, but could only identify half.
00:52 Another six students are thought to have been abducted.
00:56 Police have since called on relatives to come forward and provide DNA samples
01:01 to help with the identification process.
01:04 Twenty were claimed, the ones which are easily identifiable.
01:08 Those ones who got burned, unfortunately, beyond the condition,
01:13 we are using scientific methods of using the DNA.
01:17 Twenty suspected collaborators were arrested for questioning on Monday,
01:22 including the school's head teacher.
01:24 Ugandan authorities are blaming the attack on the Allied Democratic Forces,
01:28 a group affiliated to the Islamic State, which is also active in neighboring DRC.
