00:00 It's inside the ring, our referee is Eddie Hernandez.
00:03 We are scheduled for four rounds of boxing
00:06 as Steffi Cohen takes on Esli Cervantes.
00:10 TJ DeSantis, Abel Sanchez, Doug Fisher,
00:12 appreciate you joining us live on UFC Fight Pass.
00:15 For Tom Loeffler and 360 Promotions, Hollywood Fight Nights.
00:20 Ladies set to go.
00:27 Cohen in the yellow with purple trim.
00:30 Cervantes in the black with white.
00:32 - And I expect Cervantes to press this fight.
00:37 She likes to come forward.
00:39 She wings her punches,
00:40 which makes her susceptible to straight shots.
00:43 Expecting Cohen to land her jab in her straight right.
00:48 Cohen's got some decent power with her right hand.
00:50 And I think it behooves Cohen to come forward
00:54 to keep the pressure fighter from pressuring her.
00:56 Push Cervantes back on her heels.
00:59 - And you look at the round structure for women,
01:01 a two minute round, it's much more of a sprint
01:04 compared to the extra minutes of the menu.
01:06 - Yeah, that's true.
01:07 And so with a four round bout,
01:10 you really don't have a lot of time.
01:12 You don't have time to really assess your opponent's style
01:14 or warm up.
01:16 You really need to take the initiative.
01:19 - And I would think, Abel,
01:20 you can speak to this being a trainer,
01:21 there's more pressure to be perfect
01:23 in a two minute fight.
01:24 You can't really make up for any mistakes.
01:26 - Absolutely, but not only that,
01:27 but you don't get to really get into your game plan.
01:30 You know, it's only two minutes,
01:31 the round goes by so fast.
01:32 But you know, the ladies boxing is advanced so much.
01:35 These ladies have very good technique.
01:37 They're four round fighters.
01:39 They're moving their head well,
01:41 they're moving their feet well.
01:43 It's good that they don't,
01:48 I wish that they would have more ladies involved
01:50 so that we have a better opposition plan.
01:54 - That was something you talked about too,
01:55 just the athletes trying to find sparring partners.
01:57 You know, they're forced to spar with men
02:00 and all of our athletes that we talked to,
02:02 they said they want to have more women
02:03 stand in front of them
02:04 because it's a much different experience.
02:05 - Right.
02:06 - In the men's fight with them,
02:08 they can't really hit them,
02:09 they can't really go all out
02:10 so they're not hitting the feeling sparring.
02:14 But if there was more ladies in there,
02:16 it could be more advanced than it is already.
02:19 - Final moments here of round number one.
02:22 Nice work inside the clinch there.
02:23 (crowd cheering)
02:26 A lot of action there to end the first round.
02:30 We talked about this being a sprint,
02:33 I think both of these ladies came out
02:35 and really tried to assert the pressure
02:37 and get into each other's face.
02:38 - Yeah, it was high volume.
02:40 I like that Cervantes is trying to go to the body.
02:43 I like that Cohen is staying composed,
02:45 working off her jab,
02:47 placing her power shots.
02:48 And I also like towards the end of the round,
02:50 Cervantes crowded Cervantes,
02:52 sorry, Cohen's crowded Cervantes along the ropes.
02:55 It's kind of using that strength that she has
02:57 that she's built up through power lifting
02:59 to her advantage in the ring.
03:01 - When we talked to them in the fighter interviews,
03:04 most of the ladies wanted to experience
03:07 the three minute rounds in the fight
03:08 as they do in sparring.
03:09 We wonder when the sanctioning bodies
03:14 or the organization,
03:15 the commission will be able to do that.
03:22 - The mindset of a game plan,
03:24 I think that would change quite a bit
03:26 when you're looking at less time, right Abel?
03:28 - Well, of course, two minutes,
03:29 you don't get to really get into what you're trying to do.
03:33 The three minutes allows you to
03:34 have a game plan for a round.
03:38 - Round two underway between these two.
03:42 - Really nice one, two combination from Cohen
03:46 from the outside.
03:47 That was a nice jab that she caught Cervantes with.
03:51 - You'll see Cervantes swing though.
03:53 She'll let her hands go when she's in range.
03:56 She generally tries to touch the body.
03:58 And she's got, as you noted, Abel,
04:00 she's got a decent upper body movement.
04:03 She's short and she'll make herself even shorter
04:06 to avoid punches.
04:07 - This combination by Cohen.
04:10 Cohen has a five inch reach advantage
04:12 when it comes to wingspan.
04:13 Nice left hand on the inside.
04:18 - Yeah, that was, it was really clean.
04:20 - One down, one to go.
04:26 - Nice combination this time.
04:35 - Work on it guys, work on it.
04:37 - Working the body is Cohen.
04:38 - Yeah, Cohen is showing nice offense variety.
04:45 - She's got a good body.
04:46 - Offense variety so far through two rounds.
04:50 And her technique is sharper
04:56 than it looked in her previous bout.
04:58 - We talked about Cohen's prowess in powerlifting.
05:13 Owns a world record.
05:14 She says when she's training for boxing,
05:15 she still can't get out of the gym completely.
05:17 Still has to lift a couple of times a week
05:19 just to keep herself centered.
05:22 - Yeah.
05:23 She gets a rush from it.
05:26 But she is so focused and so competitive.
05:29 She's really, she's all in with boxing.
05:33 - I mean, you look at her historical athletic career.
05:36 I mean, she started, you know,
05:37 playing soccer at a very high level,
05:39 was part of the Venezuelan national team.
05:42 You know, Olympic level powerlifter, now boxing too.
05:44 I mean, she goes all in on everything
05:46 and she's going to work here.
05:47 Doug Walker, show us some of this action.
05:49 - Yeah, so we see the right to the body
05:50 followed by a left hook to the head.
05:52 Cervantes is trying to crowd her in a corner.
05:55 And we see Cohen going to the body with both hands
05:59 and defending well, pretty well on the inside.
06:01 There was a nice right hand to the body from Cohen.
06:03 Inside the corner here, Stephanie Cohen.
06:07 - She mentioned that she wanted to be the best at this
06:10 as she was in powerlifting and in soccer.
06:12 She obviously has done a lot of work in the gym
06:15 and from the last fight, she looks a lot better.
06:18 A lot more composed, better combinations,
06:20 crisper punches, good stance, good balance.
06:24 - Headed into round number three.
06:30 In flyweights in the ring, Stephanie Cohen
06:36 in the yellow with purple, taking on Esli Cervantes
06:39 in the black with white.
06:41 - Thank you Jada Sanchez, Able Sanchez, Doug Fisher.
06:43 Appreciate you joining us here live on UFC Fight Pass
06:46 for Hollywood Fight Nights.
06:47 - Now, one thing I noticed in Cohen's previous bout,
06:57 and I'll cut her some slack because, you know,
06:58 she had peaked to fight on a certain night
07:01 and then kind of had to reset
07:04 and, you know, while she rescheduled
07:07 another bout as soon as possible.
07:10 And that can make a fighter stale,
07:12 but it looked like she ran out of steam after two rounds.
07:16 But this is obviously not the case in this round
07:18 'cause she was just dropping some hard combinations.
07:21 - Body work.
07:22 - Yeah, I'm impressed with the body work.
07:24 And I didn't see a lot of that in her previous bout.
07:31 But I did notice she got tired in rounds three and four
07:33 and her opponent took those rounds.
07:36 So the fight could have been a draw,
07:38 but she won the fight.
07:40 Because she scored a knockdown in the second round.
07:43 - Nice combination of punches there.
07:47 Left hand right on the button for Cohen.
07:49 - Yeah, Cohen landed it and she pivoted
07:51 and just stepped out of range.
07:53 - 30 seconds left here in round number three.
07:58 Really mixing up a target here and finding it
08:09 more often than not a stepping Cohen.
08:11 - Yeah, and I like her form when she goes to the body.
08:14 - I like the form when she backs up against the ropes.
08:18 She stays in her posture.
08:20 Very composed.
08:22 - I have to imagine, and I'm not just saying this
08:25 because of her legs, how muscular her legs are,
08:30 but from doing the power lifting,
08:33 she's got this balance, this sense of balance.
08:35 And I think she called it body awareness.
08:37 And you see that when her back is to the ropes.
08:40 Like she plants herself and she's ready to fire back.
08:42 - Take a look at some of the action here
08:46 from round number three.
08:47 Abel, walk us through.
08:49 - Yeah, like I was saying,
08:50 I like the way she backs up against ropes.
08:52 These are the kind of things that young fighters
08:55 have to learn how to do.
08:56 Because when it comes to the better fighters in the future,
09:00 they're gonna have to have posture and balance.
09:02 - Inside the corner here of Steffi Cohen.
09:07 Mark, what would you like to see from Cohen here
09:09 in this fourth and final round?
09:10 - I'd like to see her from the opening second of the round,
09:15 back Cervantes up, back her to the ropes.
09:19 I'm not saying gun for a stoppage,
09:21 but yeah, I am saying gun for a stoppage.
09:24 Close the show.
09:25 - Here we go, final two minutes in this one.
09:31 Steffi Cohen taking on Esli Cervantes.
09:34 (crowd shouting)
09:37 - Brushing forward, finds a right hand,
09:40 goes to the body, just Cohen.
09:41 - This is what I wanna see.
09:43 Get her up against the ropes and swarm her.
09:45 Maybe you could force the referee to step in there.
09:49 And Cervantes has a lot of spirit.
09:52 Oh, that was a nice right hand from Cervantes.
09:56 - Cervantes far from out of this one.
09:58 She's come to fight,
09:59 and she's trying to bring it to Steffi Cohen.
10:02 I like the way Steffi's going to both sides of the body.
10:05 She throws a good right hand, a good left hand to the body,
10:07 and then goes back up.
10:08 You have to get both sides.
10:09 - Let her go, let her go.
10:18 Have her free, have her free.
10:21 - Cohen pushes her away, makes some space.
10:29 See some blood leaking from the nose of Cervantes.
10:32 - Cohen's feeling the sting, the burn of,
10:42 I don't wanna say exhaustion, but fatigue.
10:46 It's setting in.
10:47 There's another right hand there by Cervantes.
10:51 - Cervantes' game, I mean,
10:52 she's wearing it a bit, bleeding from the nose,
10:54 but she's trying to put the offense
10:56 back the way of Steffi Cohen.
10:59 - I do think Cohen took Cervantes' body attack away,
11:02 'cause that's what really Cervantes is known for.
11:05 Cervantes has made some adjustments,
11:07 has found a home for that right hand.
11:08 There it is again.
11:09 - Hard right hand by Cervantes.
11:11 - Cervantes has landed,
11:12 I'm gonna say four solid right hands
11:14 this fourth and final round.
11:16 And she's looking for it again.
11:18 - A little 10 seconds here in the fight.
11:28 - And that's a wrap, four rounds in the books.
11:31 Pretty fun one.
11:35 Definitely gotta say Cervantes had her best round
11:37 in that last period.
11:38 - I think Cervantes had a little more energy
11:42 at the end of the fight.
11:43 - I agree.
11:44 - Both ladies will have a bright future.
11:53 I think that they both had very good posture,
11:56 very good technique,
11:58 and it's gonna get better.
11:59 - I can't help but say I'd like the other minute
12:04 from each round, I'd like another four minutes
12:05 if we could have it.
12:06 Walk us through some of the action here, Doug,
12:12 as we see the end of the fourth round.
12:14 - Cohen came out hard,
12:18 and we see Cervantes stumble a little bit off a punch,
12:21 but Cervantes was still game,
12:24 and she had a little more wind in her sails,
12:26 at least over the second minute of this final round.
12:29 And that was the end of the round.
12:34 But between getting pressure to the ropes
12:37 and worked over a little bit,
12:38 Cervantes found a home for that overhand right.
12:41 - These flyweights go the distance.
12:49 The judges tallying their tens and nines,
12:52 coming up we got the Armenian Gore Yurtzyan
12:56 taking on Gustavo David Vittori.
12:59 That is coming up next,
13:00 eight rounds of boxing
13:01 in the welterweight division.
13:03 But to crown our winner in this one here is Joe Martinez.
13:06 - And now ladies and gentlemen,
13:09 after four rounds we go
13:10 to the judges' scorecards,
13:11 and all three see it, 39-37
13:16 for your winner by unanimous decision,
13:18 she is still undefeated,
13:20 Steffi Cohen!
13:22 (crowd cheering)
13:25 - Nicely done by Steffi Cohen,
13:27 now 4-0 as a pro.
13:29 The judges all signed.
