00:00 The shy and retiring Ezra Taylor ready for action against Khalid Gradier.
00:08 I'll tell you if it's as entertaining as the weigh-in was yesterday it could be
00:12 an interesting one this there was a what you might call a fairly tasty stare the
00:17 stare down Richie. Yeah I think both boxers are confident and Gradier
00:24 himself thinks he can win this contest and he's tough he really is he gave
00:31 Karol Atam last time out a good fight I think he was always in it was quite
00:35 dangerous I think Karol Atam out boxed him in the end but at one point early in
00:40 the contest and yeah he caught Karol Atam with a couple of good shots.
00:43 And it's stopped once Gradier been around for a fair while have been a pro since
00:50 2012 now 40 years old Ezra Taylor late to the pro game 28 this is only his sixth
00:56 professional contest and his first time at eight rounds.
01:02 He's been sparring with Fraser Clark up in Loughborough which will be good
01:07 sparring for the Olympic gold medalist Fraser. He's super heavy, heavyweight in the professional ranks.
01:15 Good sparring for Ezra Taylor, looks in good condition. Yeah he's coming to the pro game
01:18 fairly late but I like his style. Good boxing ability and decent power.
01:25 Yeah well he'll be moving closer to championship contention if he can come
01:31 through this and come through well what he'll be wanting to do is to try and win
01:34 more emphatically and more professionally and more one-sidedly than
01:39 Karol Atoma did. Atoma is clearly one of those who stands in his way in this
01:44 division and of course the very talented Scotsman Willie Hutchinson who's
01:48 under the same promotional banner so that's another one which could
01:52 conceivably be made down the road if he gets through this.
01:57 We've got some good light heavies haven't we in our camp so to speak.
02:04 Ezra Taylor will want to send out a message here against a decent opponent grade.
02:09 Yeah a tough kid, only been stopped that once remember. At the moment Taylor just
02:15 getting his measure here I think, scouting mission in this first round but
02:19 he's winning it for me. Boxing well at range Taylor.
02:24 And Gradier, as I said before he's tough, this will be a hard night for him if he allows
02:30 Taylor to work at mid and long range behind that jab especially.
02:35 It's an eight rounder, Taylor slightly the taller man, sounds about six foot two.
02:42 He tries to whip in that right hand but here's where Gradier can be dangerous.
02:46 If you let him get in there and he starts winging away those big hooks then you never know.
02:52 So mid and long range Taylor seems to be in control working well with his jab but
02:58 we're seeing glimpses of what Gradier can do and where he prefers to box.
03:02 Up close, up close he's dangerous especially with his left hook so maybe that's what
03:07 he's got to do close that gap down finish the attacks with that left hand.
03:12 So yeah a good opening round.
03:14 Last few seconds of the opener.
03:17 Taylor doing enough to win for me but Gradier making it competitive and the touch of glass.
03:24 It's all you, all you, all you.
03:28 Here's Ezra Taylor with Julian Taubier, his trainer.
03:40 City for Bane, assist the bar.
03:42 Jimmy Madani in the corner with Gradier.
03:47 Do you agree Taylor did enough for the opener?
03:52 Yeah I think it was a fairly close round but I thought Taylor won the round.
03:57 And like I said a bit of a scouting mission for him.
04:00 That left hand of his I think is very dangerous.
04:02 I think the right uppercut could play a part as well here tonight for Taylor.
04:05 When Gradier makes those fast raiding attacks and that's the shot that he's got to bring to the middle I think.
04:11 But at mid and long range I think Taylor is boxing well.
04:14 Really is a very stacked division this isn't it among the British rankings.
04:19 There's some real talent among the light heavyweights and Taylor wanting to raise his way up those rankings.
04:31 Right uppercut there from Taylor that we spoke about just misses the target.
04:35 If that connects it could be all over.
04:39 But again Taylor boxing well at range and yeah Gradier just acknowledging that just being outboxed there.
04:46 Just getting a little mouse coming underneath the left eye Gradier.
04:55 That's a good body shot.
04:57 Really dug that one in Taylor.
05:00 As you know a solid right hand as well.
05:02 Yeah some pace and distance is suiting Taylor at this stage.
05:08 That's what Gradier's got to do get up close and quicken the feet up.
05:11 But he's been outboxed at distance here.
05:13 Good jabs going in from Taylor.
05:15 Really athletic looking fighter isn't he.
05:17 I don't know whether he plays other sports but it wouldn't be a major surprise if he had a bit of success at various levels.
05:24 Showing terrific coordination as he swayed away out of that attempted attack from Gradier a few seconds ago.
05:31 Look at that beautiful tremendous right hand there.
05:38 Look at that beautiful tremendous right hand there.
06:04 Left eye of Gradier's is starting to worsen slightly but his vision not affected as yet by the swelling.
06:12 But we're only in the second of eight.
06:15 Yeah it's good boxing isn't it from Taylor.
06:18 Long range working well behind his jab.
06:20 Too far away there with that hook.
06:22 But nevertheless the straight shots from Taylor really are giving Gradier problems and that's a good shot.
06:28 Good hand speed.
06:32 Four of his five wins.
06:35 Taylor have come by stoppage.
06:38 Three wins inside two rounds.
06:42 Another great body shot. Really hammered that one home.
06:46 Ooh he got clipped there though.
06:49 Trying to wind up on the uppercut and just got punished.
06:58 Referee indicating while you were away to both corners that the damage to that left eye of Gradier has been caused by a punch and not a clash of hands.
07:09 Yeah a couple of good right hands have gone in from Taylor.
07:13 Right at the end of the round though Gradier has a little bit of success.
07:16 That may give him confidence for this round.
07:19 Really trying to wind up on that uppercut doesn't he Taylor.
07:23 And in the time that he took it to get the glove back and bring it through.
07:27 He just punished with a little right cross from Gradier.
07:29 Yeah he just got the timing wrong there did Taylor.
07:32 And it's a contest that shows you just can't get too complacent.
07:36 Everything was going well in that round right up until that last ten seconds and then Gradier had a little bit of success.
07:41 So Taylor's got to keep concentrating here.
07:45 Gradier is fairly dangerous. He's just got to keep outboxing him.
07:49 And just pick away with the shots here Taylor.
07:53 I think it's fair to say that Taylor could do with competitive rounds.
07:57 You know it would be great for him to put this guy away and make a you know something of a spectacular statement.
08:03 But maybe at this stage what he needs is competitive rounds.
08:07 Well Gradier certainly gave Carroll a turn with some competitive rounds and made him think right to the very end.
08:18 There's that right hand there from Taylor.
08:21 Again boxing well at distance setting things up behind that jab.
08:25 Then he adjusts his feet. Gradier coming forward.
08:28 This is a little bit better now from here in the bull.
08:31 He couldn't close that gap down and good work from Taylor there off the ropes.
08:35 Comes back with a big body shot.
08:38 Gradier showing that he can be dangerous.
08:41 Taylor cannot afford to become complacent.
08:44 No definitely not John. You've got it spot on there.
08:50 This guy is dangerous.
08:52 Oh he caught him there and again.
08:54 Two right hands.
08:56 Back comes Taylor off the ropes.
08:58 Those are the most powerful shots that Taylor's had to absorb so far.
09:02 Good action here in the third.
09:04 Yeah good response from Taylor but just took his eye off the ball there.
09:08 And let Gradier just close that gap down.
09:10 And took one or two shots that he shouldn't have Taylor.
09:14 He'll be disappointed with that.
09:15 It's just a lapse in concentration.
09:17 But fair play to Gradier. Closed the gap. Landed a couple of good punches.
09:21 Yeah it'll be interesting to hear what the Taylor corner make of that one.
09:25 Because did he just get a bit lax in the way in which he was facing the man in front of him.
09:31 He's totally in command at mid and long range Taylor.
09:37 Gradier's finding it very difficult to get past these straight jabs.
09:40 Long straight right hands.
09:41 But when he's up close, we spoke about he's fairly dangerous.
09:44 And he just managed to close that gap down and push Taylor into that corner.
09:49 That was lovely there from Taylor.
09:52 Yeah maybe if he's got a weakness at this stage it's in the close range exchanges.
09:58 Taylor likes to have space to do his work.
10:02 Taylor corner urging him to stay switched on.
10:11 That's where Gradier's dangerous. Catches him again with a right hand.
10:17 And I think there's been three or four times in that round where Taylor has committed himself and been punished.

12:13 Going close with that right hand counter again and again Gradier.
12:20 Yeah he's had a bit of success hasn't he Gradier he's got closer.
12:23 Mainly because Taylor's probably taking a few more risks getting up close.
12:27 There's a nice little shot on the inside again from Gradier.
12:30 I think Taylor when he's mid and long range is out boxing his opponent.
12:33 But occasionally switches off allows Gradier to close the gap down.
12:37 He takes a couple of risks here and there Taylor.
12:39 He's trying to get closer to land some bigger shots you see.
12:42 But when you're in that range you're there to be hit yourself.
12:44 And Gradier's tough and he's come back with a couple of good counters.
12:48 Only stopped once in his 24 fights Gradier.
12:53 Durable he's got as many wins as defeats.
13:00 And it's only four weeks ago that he went eight rounds with Karol Otauma.
13:04 The southpaw from Chatham.
13:06 Who is coming back after that fairly shattering knockout loss that he suffered.
13:12 You just heard Taylor's corner stick to your boxing.
13:18 That's what he's got to do here.
13:20 The boxing abilities with Taylor for me in this contest.
13:25 But he's in against a tough opponent.
13:29 Who's taking the shots coming back.
13:31 Wants to probably go the distance and drag Taylor into those latter rounds.
13:36 It's his first eight round here remember John.
13:40 And here he is making it awkward for Taylor again.
13:48 He's got him where he wants to be right in front of him.
13:51 Trying to thud in heavy shots in close.
13:57 Gradier finishing the round well.
14:01 Good body shots.
14:08 But only a single shot.
14:15 Well there you go.
14:20 Taylor taking a bit of a breather as he goes back to the corner.
14:24 Welcome back to your call.
14:31 The Nottingham prospect.
14:33 The undefeated light heavyweight extra Taylor here.
14:36 In that last round was having a few more problems.
14:39 Gradier getting close and punishing him more than once when he got to that range.
14:44 His best round wasn't it Gradier?
14:46 It's an eight rounder.
14:55 And Richie's got it three rounds to one in Ezra Taylor's favour.
14:59 There's signs I thought that Ezra Taylor was starting to gas a bit in the closing stages of that fourth round.
15:11 He looked mighty jaded when he made his way back to the corner and slumped down on his stool in that corner.
15:18 Yeah he looked a little bit dejected as well.
15:20 That's not a bad shot.
15:21 But for me he's just got to box more in the ring space.
15:24 Occasionally just allowing Gradier to back him into corners and onto ropes.
15:27 So he's just losing laps in a bit of a concentration.
15:30 He's got to stay more in the centre of the ring for me.
15:32 And box more at mid long range.
15:34 Control the distance behind those straight shots.
15:37 Gradier doesn't have it.
15:38 There you go.
15:39 There's an example doesn't have an answer to that.
15:41 But when Gradier closes the gap, pushes Taylor back to the ropes in the corners, that's when he's having success.
15:47 Well he's looked great when he's been on top in his previous contests Ezra Taylor.
15:56 Now he's got a guy who is firing back and who has ambitions of his own.
16:01 Like now.
16:02 And Taylor doesn't want to be standing taking those.
16:07 Taking too many risks there. Taylor again getting caught on the inside.
16:11 Fast reactions from him.
16:15 Probably took two or three shots there on those ropes that he shouldn't have.
16:19 Fights like these of course where you start to really assess where prospects are.
16:33 And how good they're going to be.
16:35 When the guy in front doesn't adhere to some sort of script.
16:39 Those are straight shots from Taylor.
16:43 Again I think that right uppercut of his could come into play.
16:46 I think Gradier is getting more and more confident coming over his front foot.
16:50 If Taylor could bring him onto one of those right uppercuts, then who knows.
16:54 Lee Avery splits them and the action underway once more.
17:04 He's got a good grip on the ropes.
17:06 He's got a good grip on the ropes.
17:08 He's got a good grip on the ropes.
17:10 He's got a good grip on the ropes.
17:12 He's got a good grip on the ropes.
17:14 He's got a good grip on the ropes.
17:16 He's got a good grip on the ropes.
17:18 He's got a good grip on the ropes.
17:20 He's got a good grip on the ropes.
17:22 He's got a good grip on the ropes.
17:24 He's got a good grip on the ropes.
17:26 He's got a good grip on the ropes.
17:28 He's got a good grip on the ropes.
17:30 He's got a good grip on the ropes.
17:32 He's got a good grip on the ropes.
17:34 He's got a good grip on the ropes.

21:38 >> He's got a good grip on the ropes.
21:40 >> He's got a good grip on the ropes.
21:42 >> He's got a good grip on the ropes.
21:44 >> Now Beck has a big right from Taylor.
21:46 >> And there's a bit of kidology from both,
21:50 >> suggesting that they've caught them and hurt them.
21:52 >> And that was a fairly dramatic end to an interesting round.
21:56 >> That was tremendous, wasn't it, Wright, at the very end?
21:59 >> Taylor catching his opponent with good shots,
22:02 >> but Kradue himself, good right hand,
22:04 >> cracking into the round.
22:06 >> Let's watch again some of the action from that round,
22:13 >> and at times, really was dramatic.
22:16 >> This is right at the very end of the round,
22:18 >> super shot there from Taylor,
22:20 >> but Kradue acknowledges he was caught with a good shot,
22:24 >> but he's tough, he really is.
22:26 >> And he's in there and he's dangerous.
22:28 >> There's the right hand, belting shot, it really was.
22:32 >> But Kradue's there, trying to land himself,
22:34 >> can't get close enough.
22:36 >> Taylor misses with another shot,
22:38 >> right at the end of the round,
22:40 >> and just finishes him off there with that right hand.
22:42 >> A bit of catalogy there as well,
22:44 >> isn't there, and Taylor suggesting,
22:46 >> yeah, maybe your legs wobble a bit.
22:49 >> Seventh round of this eight-rounder.
22:53 >> Ezra Taylor, in only his sixth professional fight,
23:03 >> looking to maintain his undefeated record.
23:06 >> A taller man in the white shorts from Nottingham,
23:09 >> good body shots.
23:11 >> Finish right there, bro.
23:13 >> What's important for Taylor is he stays relaxed,
23:25 >> he's a big guy, exerting a lot of energy when he throws those big punches,
23:30 >> so his stamina's going to be tested here.
23:32 >> He's got to stay relaxed.
23:35 >> As he's throwing the shots, that's good work.
23:38 >> This is what Grady wants in those,
23:42 >> a relatively static target right in front of him.
23:45 >> Good work.
23:47 >> Switching attack from body to head beautifully.
23:50 >> Good speed as well, speed of punch there from Taylor is impressive.
23:55 >> Taylor trying to keep some mobility in his legs,
24:07 >> maybe just feeling the pace a little bit.
24:09 >> His first eight-rounder, this one, remember,
24:13 >> and it's a hot night here in the York Hall.
24:16 >> Yeah, good fight for him, this is, it really is, John.
24:22 >> He's got to stay concentrated.
24:24 >> Good work from both boxes, and this is where Grady will fancy his chances.
24:30 >> Let's not forget, Taylor's dangerous as well.
24:34 >> Oh, tremendous stuff.
24:35 >> The two of them winging in hurtful hooks to the body,
24:39 >> and who had the better of that exchange?
24:42 >> Swelling below that left eye of Grady, it's getting worse and worse now.
24:52 >> Well, that was affecting him as early as the second round, wasn't it?
24:57 >> Those right hands that have been going in from Taylor.
25:01 >> I wonder if his vision is starting to be affected by that swollen left eye.
25:05 >> I think it probably is.
25:07 >> Oh, lovely shot. What a belting shot that was.
25:14 >> And to prove the point, right on target.
25:17 >> I honestly don't think he saw that right hand coming.
25:20 >> Better from Grady.
25:30 >> What a tremendous right hand that was from Taylor.
25:33 >> The timing of that shot, that was really A1 stuff.
25:37 >> It's been a very good fight, this.
25:40 >> Good to watch.
25:42 >> And the two of them going at it toe to toe in the closing seconds of the seventh.
25:47 >> Just one to go, and these two guys have really given value for money.
25:52 >> Yeah, tremendous contest indeed.
25:56 >> This fella certainly playing a massive part.
25:58 >> Oh, God, how come? Oh, God.
26:00 >> Look at the eye, John, there.
26:05 >> That's got to be affecting his vision, surely.
26:09 >> Affecting his vision, and every time anything lands on it,
26:12 well, you know better than me, it's going to hurt big time.
26:16 >> The timing of that shot, he had to get that spot on, and he did.
26:21 It's like a counterattack, you're beating your opponent to the punch.
26:25 He's waiting for Gradya to land the shot, to start the attack,
26:28 and he's stepping in there and beating him to the punch.
26:31 Tremendous timing, counterattacking boxing there.
26:34 >> There's been some real quality from Taylor at times.
26:38 >> Gradya's going to come out, no question of them pulling him out.
26:43 He's going out, looking for one last big dramatic round.
26:47 Referee perfectly happy that he's fit to continue, and just three minutes remain.
26:54 >> And Taylor's got to keep switched on here.
26:56 Gradya will still fancy his chances here that he can land a big shot.
27:00 Taylor's strong, he's coming forward, trying to land that big, big knockout shot,
27:04 but that will mean he'll be open himself, so he's got to watch what he's doing.
27:07 >> He's looking for the big left hand, Taylor.
27:12 So will that maybe just create the opening? We'll see.
27:23 >> Gradya for the moment, content to let him come.
27:25 Surely there's going to be a big and thralling climax to this final round.
27:40 The two, you sense it's almost inevitable, are going to really go toe to toe.
27:46 >> Right, to the back, to the back.
27:48 >> Grady at 40 years of age, John. Boxed at a great pace here, took some big shots as well.
27:59 That shows how tough he is, but still to be in there in the last round of an eight rounder
28:04 that's been fought at a terrific pace. Yeah, he's a fit kid indeed.
28:08 >> He's only ever been stopped once, and it's not looking as though Taylor's going to be able to do it.
28:14 It's not looking as though Taylor's going to answer that tally.
28:16 At the same time, I really do think this is a useful eight rounds for Ezra Taylor.
28:24 He's winning the fight, yeah, but he's having to think right the way through.
28:29 Good shot, lovely. >> That was a great shot that was.
28:33 There from Taylor, because he kept his distance, and as we say, that gets caught with a belt in right hand.
28:38 >> Well, there you are, you see, he tried to load up with that left hook.
28:42 >> Grady saw it coming and punished him.
28:44 And that's what could still switch this. >> Yeah.
28:47 >> We said at the start of the round, he's got to keep concentrating.
28:51 Right to the very end, he's in against a dangerous opponent who still believes he can win the contest.
28:57 It's not over.
28:59 >> Oh, two terrific shots from Taylor. And now here we go, into the last 45 seconds.
29:09 Tremendous right hand from Taylor there. And again, left hook went in.
29:13 >> Referee keeping a close look at Grady.
29:17 >> This is when Taylor's probably got to just maybe step it up a little bit.
29:22 But Grady's still feeling the effects from that, you can just see it in him.
29:26 Reluctant to come forward. >> He's done enough to win the fight though, Taylor.
29:31 He doesn't want to get caught. Surely it's corner of his sight.
29:36 >> There's another big left hand from Taylor. Last 10 seconds.
29:39 More huge head shots from the Nottingham Man.
29:45 Grady is going to see it through to the final bell.
29:48 And I tell you what, Mr. Woodall, that was a display of terrific bravery from Grady.
29:55 And that's a big learning point for Ezra Taylor, a genuinely entertaining eight rounder.
30:00 >> Great contest, wasn't it? Right to the very end, Grady thought he could still win the contest.
30:05 And was still in the fight. Taylor overall boxed really well.
30:09 It's only his sixth contest, remember. His first eight rounder and he boxed really, really well.
30:15 He didn't panic, he kept the boxing going. The power he produced and the timing was excellent throughout the contest.
30:21 Let's have a look at it here. There was a tremendous left hook and that straight right hand there from Ezra Taylor.
30:27 That just turned the round, didn't it? Up until then, Grady wasn't doing too badly.
30:32 But some tremendous work from Taylor with that left hook and right hand.
30:36 There it is from another angle there. Just finishes the round really, really well.
30:39 Grady is still coming forward. Tremendous left hook again there from Taylor.
30:43 So he's finishing the round strong. Yeah, it was a tremendous entertaining eight round contest.
30:48 >> Taylor must have wondered how much more can this guy take as he was landing huge shots in that last round.
30:55 And there's visible evidence of the power and indeed the accuracy of Taylor.
31:01 Ezra Taylor will have won that one, but he's had to think in ways that he's not done before.
31:07 Coming up next, we've got Mark Chamberlain here in action.
31:12 IBF European lightweight title fight against the Italian Marvin DeMolari.
31:18 There's DeMolari, an all-action fighter warming up in his dressing room.
31:25 He's the sort of man who'll really keep coming and give Mark Chamberlain plenty to think about
31:31 as Chamberlain looks to defend that title.
31:34 And following that, it will be David Adelaide in action against Emir Armatovich, the final fight of the night.
31:41 But here now, we've got Ezra Taylor and Khalid Grady.
31:46 And we can get the results and the score from Dev Sarni.
31:53 Ladies and gentlemen, after eight rounds of boxing, your referee Lee Every scores the contest 79-73 to your winner
32:03 and still undefeated, Ezra "The Cannon" Taylor.
32:14 Six-point margin, so relatively wide, but that didn't really tell the story.
32:21 I'm not privy to the sort of information about what people earn for the part they play in these fights.
32:26 But whatever it is for Khalid Grady, didn't he earn it?
32:30 Two terrific lines at the end there, John.
