00:12 -And today we're going to show you
00:13 how to do a knotted ponytail.
00:15 Now, the best part about this hairstyle
00:17 is it's most effective when your hair is wet.
00:20 So if you're running late to school
00:21 and you're just out of the shower,
00:23 or you have an after school practice where you have
00:24 to shower when you're done, or you just got done swimming,
00:27 this is a great hairstyle for you.
00:29 OK, now to begin this hairstyle, I've
00:31 gone ahead and just done three little flips
00:32 in the front of her hair, only because I just
00:35 love to add a little dimension in the front of the ponytail.
00:37 But basically, what you're going to need to do
00:39 is have your hair pulled into a high ponytail.
00:42 And you can see her hair is wet, and I have my trusty water
00:45 bottle here.
00:46 This is just water.
00:47 In case it dries out a little bit, I can spray it down.
00:50 So you can either spray it or just jump out of the shower,
00:53 either one.
00:54 And then you're going to take a comb,
00:55 and you're going to want to just smooth the hair as much
00:59 as possible.
00:59 So make sure you kind of are combing through,
01:02 combing any knots or little rough spots out
01:05 until it's pretty smooth.
01:07 When you're done doing that, I have two clips.
01:11 You're going to need two of these little tiny clips.
01:13 I just have clipped them on her shirt
01:15 so that I know where they're at.
01:16 I'm going to reach back behind the ponytail
01:18 and pull just a little tiny piece of hair.
01:22 So not too big.
01:24 You can do big if you want.
01:25 I just like the way they look when they're a little smaller.
01:28 I want a little bit more than that.
01:29 And you kind of want them coming from the middle of the ponytail.
01:32 So when you get your little sections,
01:37 you're going to take them.
01:38 And I comb them out again, because now, see,
01:40 they have a few rough edges.
01:42 So it's best if you just kind of give them a nice little comb
01:45 so they're nice and smooth.
01:46 And at this point, this is optional.
01:47 You can even take a little bit of dry wax
01:50 and just gently spritz on there.
01:52 Or even use some pomade if you want
01:54 to make them really look smooth.
01:56 And you're going to tie a knot.
01:57 I'm going to do it again.
01:59 I'm just taking the pieces, just like a shoelace, just once.
02:03 And then pull it down tight against the ponytail like this.
02:06 Now, this is where the clips come in.
02:07 We're going to take this, and we're
02:09 going to clip it to this side.
02:10 Take this end and just clip it to this side.
02:14 That way, we don't have to use extra hands.
02:16 You can do it on yourself if you want to.
02:18 But we're still holding that knot in place.
02:20 And we're going to reach back again,
02:22 pull a little section of hair right here.
02:25 Reach back towards the middle.
02:27 Pull another little section of hair.
02:30 And again, you can see that they're kind of scattywampus.
02:34 So I'm going to just go ahead and comb through,
02:38 make them nice and smooth.
02:40 Again, dry wax optional.
02:45 And then I'm going to tie another knot right
02:48 on top of the first one.
02:49 We're going to pull it pretty tight.
02:51 It'll loosen naturally as we go.
02:53 Now, I'm just going to move these down a little bit more
02:55 and hang on to that newest add-in.
02:59 I'm going to reach behind.
03:00 You can see this is kind of a repeating
03:01 pattern at this point.
03:04 Get my section of hair I want.
03:06 Bring it around front, comb them out, and tie a knot.
03:24 And the farther down we go, the more
03:26 you're going to see the hair hanging,
03:28 like this draping effect on the sides.
03:31 And that's fine.
03:32 I'm just going to keep moving those down.
03:34 Now, about halfway down, I'm going
03:43 to go back just with my comb and make sure everything
03:45 is nice and smooth, very gently here, specifically underneath.
03:50 You just want to kind of comb out any more knots.
03:52 And we're going to continue to go.
03:54 Make sure when you're clipping, another trick
03:56 is that you're clipping these just to the very outside edges
03:58 so that it holds that knot in place.
04:00 If you clip it in the center, the knot kind of pulls funny.
04:03 So we're going to keep going.
04:04 [MUSIC - "KISSING IN THE RAIN"]
04:05 (SINGING) Kissing in the rain, walking on the beach.
04:10 I can see it now, almost happening.
04:14 Sneaking out at night, living like we're free.
04:19 OK, so when you get to the end--
04:21 and you'll know when you're done because you start
04:23 running out of hair and the little pieces
04:25 start falling out as you're tying those knots,
04:28 as it shortens the hair-- just take an elastic
04:32 and go ahead and secure the entire thing off.
04:37 Nice ponytail.
04:40 And then if you want, you can go back
04:42 and these move a little tiny bit.
04:43 So if you don't like the spacing exactly the way they are,
04:46 you can adjust just a little bit accordingly.
04:49 And you are all finished.
04:51 And not only does it leave this really pretty knotted effect
04:53 on the front, but it gives you this really pretty draped
04:56 effect on the sides, which is really fun and kind of unique
05:00 as well.
05:02 OK, guys, let's do the final spin on this hairstyle.
05:06 Voila.
05:08 It's like a sneaky ponytail.
05:09 Like, you're thinking it's just a normal ponytail.
05:13 And then bam!
05:15 It's not normal.
05:17 Bam!
05:19 Normal.
05:21 Bam!
