00:00 The fifth stage is the king stage of the Tour de Suisse.
00:03 It leads from Fiesch to La Ponte.
00:05 That's over 200 km.
00:07 In total, there are three passes,
00:09 the Forca, the Oberalppass and the Albulapass.
00:14 So it's a very, very difficult stage.
00:16 We are now here at Villisur.
00:21 It's before the pass really starts.
00:23 It's always a little uphill,
00:25 but it's still flat here before the pass.
00:27 It's 18 km that are really uphill.
00:29 And of course it comes at the very end of the stage.
00:31 So it's a very, very difficult pass.
00:53 After Berguin, it really starts to climb permanently.
00:57 There are always flat sections
00:59 where you could theoretically breathe through.
01:01 But it's actually permanently steep.
01:03 It has nice curves,
01:05 partly slightly in the trees.
01:07 But it's really very nice to ride.
01:09 It's never overhanging steep,
01:11 but it's really the distance,
01:13 the length of the pass that makes it so difficult.
01:15 Especially at the top,
01:17 when you're out to the trees,
01:19 in this moon landscape,
01:21 depending on where the wind comes from,
01:23 it could also get fresh.
01:25 So it's really a very steep pass.
01:27 You can really assume
01:29 that at this point,
01:31 only the very best were left.
01:33 And it's really a very, very steep pass.
01:35 And you can really assume
01:37 that at this point,
01:39 only the very best were left.
01:41 And it's really a very, very steep pass.
01:43 And you can really assume
01:45 that at this point,
01:47 only the very best were left.
01:49 And it's really a very, very steep pass.
01:51 And you can really assume
01:53 that at this point,
01:55 only the very best were left.
01:57 And here, at the top,
01:59 you're almost at 200 km,
02:01 or if you're already in the mountains,
02:03 at over 4,000 m in height.
02:05 And then the last section of the Albu La Paz,
02:07 even if it's not that steep,
02:09 it's still a long way up
02:11 until you're really up there.
02:13 The Albu La Paz really belongs
02:17 to the Tour de Suisse program.
02:19 Every few years, this pass is part of the program.
02:21 And the arrival in La Punt
02:23 is a tradition.
02:25 The finish is not at the top of the pass.
02:27 That's another special feature of this stage.
02:29 It's really down in La Punt.
02:31 There's not quite a long descent,
02:33 but it's still extremely fast.
02:35 And at the very bottom,
02:37 with the last serpentine,
02:39 there's a technical part.
02:41 So you really have to stay
02:43 fully focused on the finish line.
02:45 For the good descent,
02:47 there's a chance to get a few seconds back
02:49 or maybe even create a gap there.
02:51 And the race is not finished at the top.
02:53 You really have to have your head and legs
02:55 up until you're really at the finish line
02:57 in La Punt.
02:59 The arrival at the finish line in La Punt
03:01 is really close to the village.
03:03 Only the last few hundred meters
03:05 are really flat,
03:07 and most of it is really just in the descent.
03:09 There's also a railway crossing
03:11 until you're really in La Punt.
03:13 And it's very possible
03:15 that almost every single rider
03:17 gets to the finish line.
03:19 Maybe there's a small group
03:21 that can sprint around the finish line.
