00:00 - What's in the caption? - Try Zurich, it's there.
00:02 - What's in the caption? - It's a bit live.
00:05 - It's live? Oh cool, hello, hello everyone, Mike R here.
00:10 Straight from Zurich, Switzerland. I'm going to share with you today one of my signature haircuts.
00:18 But before we're gonna get going, we're gonna just go through this haircut quickly.
00:24 This haircut has not been done by me previously, so someone else did it.
00:30 And tried to follow the lines, which a lot of times your clients tell random hairdressers people.
00:37 They get to see the first time, please follow the lines.
00:41 Some hairdressers are better at it than others.
00:44 And just let's recap this, or just let's go over this haircut quickly here a little bit.
00:50 Basically the idea was to follow the lines and add these long layers.
00:55 It was a little bit less than two months ago.
00:59 But again, layers, long layers in particular, if you have the right haircut,
01:05 they should grow out gracefully, nicely, easy, two, three, four months without a problem.
01:11 And what we're seeing here now is just, I understand the idea of the haircut,
01:17 but it was just not 100% executed.
01:20 This in particular right here is a very common mistake that is happening.
01:27 That's basically when there is kind of left too much of a corner in the front.
01:31 When the hair or so much weight has been taken out that it becomes see-through.
01:36 It's just not nicely connected.
01:39 Then when we pull at the same spot the layers, there is the right side shorter than the left.
01:48 That shouldn't be happening either, especially hair does maybe grow unevenly, but not that much.
01:54 Just a few little things, and this is then exactly the difference that a haircut has
02:05 that is cut properly or maybe not with as much TLC, tender loving care.
02:13 And I always analyze haircuts first before I get to it.
02:21 Again here, this is very particular, the connection from the side to the back.
02:26 I'm going to show you a really simple trick on how this is done.
02:29 Then just quickly if you actually turn her around.
02:36 She does have a lot of hair, which of course comes in very handy.
02:41 I never quite understand why some hairdressers take out a lot of weight throughout the perimeter
02:52 to make hair more see-through less.
02:55 I never quite understand.
02:57 Personally, I like to have a fuller outline and if layers within the interior so it can move.
03:05 The hair also is not pin straight.
03:09 It's just been blowed right now.
03:11 It does have a natural wave to it.
03:13 It should also be able to be worn both ways, wavy and straight.
03:19 Okay, so let's just get going here and we're going to start off this haircut by having her stand up and cut the back so you can stand up.
03:29 Perfect.
03:31 Turn the cape around.
03:37 There you go.
03:38 Just hold here in the front.
03:40 Thanks, Rida.
03:41 Super.
03:42 Excellent.
03:43 Take a step back here.
03:44 Super.
03:45 So, we're going to start off the haircut in the back here.
03:51 Very simply, just comb everything straight down.
03:54 And it's kind of funny too.
03:57 If you actually...
04:00 Here one more time.
04:01 If you look at this from straight, you can see here how there is less hair over to the right than actually on the left.
04:11 And we're going to adjust this.
04:13 And we get a lot of fixer-upper in the salon.
04:16 It's maybe not always the most exciting work, I get it.
04:20 But it's part of what we do.
04:22 And this is a very common look.
04:24 This is a very common way of wearing your hair with longer layers.
04:28 So, that's why it is utmost important that we know how this haircut is done.
04:33 And if you're also very good at this haircut, if you really know every single step, you're done fairly fast.
04:39 So, this is...
04:40 And the bright side over it.
04:42 I'm going to be using my K7 inch Royale.
04:45 But you can also use the K Long Couture 6.5 inch cutting blade.
04:50 And just for chicks and giggles, I'll be actually using the K7...
04:56 Sorry, the K6.5 inch blade, which is called the K Long Couture.
05:04 Okay.
05:05 And I'm going to start the haircut here in the center.
05:09 I always believe this is a really easy way to do this.
05:13 Start off here in the center.
05:15 And now what we're going to be doing here, we're going to level this off here.
05:19 So, it's going to become nice and solid.
05:22 Okay.
05:23 And we're going to just cut straight through.
05:25 I have no...
05:27 I'm not pushing that hair anywhere.
05:29 What I can do, and that's what I'm actually going to be doing now, is my second section.
05:34 I'm combing everything straight down.
05:36 With the back of my hand, I press it against the cape.
05:41 Okay.
05:42 Here, already a little bit here on the side.
05:45 I'm just bringing that hair back from the front.
05:51 Because what I want to do right now is just level the back.
05:55 Okay.
05:56 Because once we have established the length, we're not going to attack it anymore.
06:00 The same thing on this side as well.
06:04 We're going to bring this here to the back.
06:08 Excellent.
06:10 Give it a nice shake to it.
06:13 And as you can see here, by just taking off, and it's not that much,
06:19 by just taking this off, leveling this off, it just looks straight, right away, so much better.
06:25 So, this is our length.
06:27 We're not going to attack the length anymore.
06:29 We're going to have her sit down, turn the cape around, and going to start with the layers.
06:36 So here, you can have a seat again.
06:39 Perfect.
06:40 Thank you so much.
06:42 Excellent.
06:44 So, this is definitely one of my go-to haircuts.
06:49 This is a haircut I perform a lot in various lengths.
06:55 It's a very simple layering system that I have developed.
07:01 And it always works.
07:04 And of course, the idea here is as well, is to add your own to it.
07:10 So, I'm always a fan of taking something and then make it your own.
07:15 Okay.
07:16 So here, we're going to turn her around.
07:19 And this is just slightly off-center, but this is where she wears her hair.
07:24 I'm going to bring back the part all the way to the back.
07:28 And I'm going to show you this here in a second.
07:30 Right below the crown to the back of the ear, we're going to take a section.
07:36 Just one second.
07:37 I'll show you.
07:39 Right on here.
07:41 Very simple.
07:43 Right here.
07:44 I'm going to do this from the other side.
07:46 And here is a really great way onto part hair.
07:49 I have my cutting combs, which I've been--God, I've had this for more than 10 years.
07:55 These cutting combs.
07:56 You see them quite a bit now from other companies as well.
07:59 But here is definitely one of the original.
08:02 I have here a hook.
08:03 Prior, actually, before I had the hook, I used to break out the tooth, two teeth on the comb.
08:09 But, you know, who likes to work with a tool that is broken off teeth.
08:15 So, that's why we made it.
08:17 So, what I always like, I always like to put my index finger on top of where the hook is here.
08:24 And then place the finger, my other index finger, on where I want to go.
08:28 And then just go to this part.
08:31 And you will always guarantee to have the cleanest part.
08:35 Because creating a clean part is half of your haircut.
08:42 And we're clipping this away so the hair is not in our way.
08:46 I always stand on top as well that this part is on the left and on the right level.
08:52 Because, as you know as well, if you stand above, on top of people, you see that heads and ears are sometimes off.
09:00 Some of them a little more than others.
09:02 All right?
09:03 Cool.
09:04 I'm right-handed.
09:05 I stand on the person's right side.
09:09 We are going to take here--because it's slightly off-center here.
09:15 We're just taking here that famous triangle section that I always love to work with because it just always works.
09:24 That's my directional point right here in the front.
09:27 It's a very important point because it is your bangs, your front area, the first thing you do see.
09:35 Okay?
09:36 As you can see, I have one side has more hair in it than the other, the right side.
09:42 Because obviously she has a part, so we have more hair on one side.
09:45 But if I lift it up, as you can see, it's the same.
09:50 Okay?
09:51 So here we are.
09:52 Slightly turn her sideways so you can see well.
09:56 Always position the head so it's comfortable for you.
10:00 And we simply comb the hair straight away from the head, straight out.
10:07 Okay?
10:08 Right here, level my hand to where the part is and cut from short to long.
10:16 Okay here?
10:17 Nice and clean.
10:19 Cut this nice and clean.
10:21 Okay?
10:22 And then once you're done, this is always what you end up with.
10:28 Just gradually having it longer here.
10:31 Just beautifully, gradually having it longer.
10:34 And by the way, that's why I also like to cut hair dry in particularly, in particular
10:41 if you have longer hair.
10:44 And more so as well when you have longer layers, it's just so much easier.
10:48 The shorter your hair gets, be my guest, you can spray it down a bit.
10:53 But let's focus right now here on the long layers.
10:55 It is just so much easier because it's very visual.
10:58 Okay?
11:00 Your second section, your second section is always in the center of the head.
11:08 Always.
11:11 The reason why it's in the center of your head is because now you determine how strong
11:18 your layers are.
11:21 And now that's why it is in the center of the head.
11:26 Okay?
11:27 So here we are.
11:30 We're combing that hair.
11:33 Turn her sideways so you can see that well with the hair angle.
11:42 Right here, pulling it at a 45 degree, take the longest point of the bangs right here
11:53 and follow the line up and then right on top of the head we level into a 90.
12:00 Just right up in here.
12:03 Okay?
12:05 Then we'll take a parallel section right next to it.
12:09 It's right by the curvature zone of the head.
12:13 Okay?
12:15 Comb here as well, nicely.
12:17 And as you can see here, when you cut dry hair, and particularly when your hair is longer,
12:24 that you always have a little bit more tension on the hair.
12:31 Okay?
12:33 Super.
12:35 Then here just to double check because I remember from earlier when I analyzed the layers,
12:42 it was a little bit like shorter right here on the side.
12:45 So just to play it on the safe side, what I'm doing right now here is I'm just combing
12:51 a forward to me and I'm dusting up here and continuing my line.
12:57 My fingers are parallel to the part.
13:00 My fingers are parallel to the part and I just want to play it safe.
13:06 I just want to make sure that I dust up the corner here.
13:11 Let me clip this away again.
13:13 Sorry about that.
13:14 There we go.
13:18 Right here.
13:20 Excuse me.
13:22 Comb the hair straight towards me.
13:26 Fingers are parallel.
13:27 Here is my longest point.
13:29 And you can see now how kind of like how not as solid the outline here is previously.
13:36 But all good.
13:38 Not the end of the world at all.
13:40 Now we're going to do the same thing on the other side.
13:43 Again right there by the curvature zone of the head.
13:49 Like so.
13:57 All the way up here to the center.
13:59 Beautiful.
14:03 Having a 6 1/2 inch cutting blade makes it just so much easier.
14:10 And here as well on top of the head.
14:12 Here I only felt now that this side was shorter than the other side.
14:17 We did see that as well when we analyzed the haircut.
14:22 So that's why it is utmost important to level this.
14:26 Here again to play it safe.
14:28 Comb the hair.
14:30 As you can see here it's less and less.
14:34 Like so.
14:43 Always comb neatly here at the base of the hair to have it clean.
14:50 Pull it forward and go.
14:52 Perfect.
14:54 Excellent.
14:56 And once you're done, this is exactly what you're ending up with.
15:01 The left and the right side always the same length.
15:04 Before you're going to continue, you can take these bits here on the left and on the right.
15:11 Let them run through your fingers.
15:14 Excellent.
15:16 Superb.
15:19 Feels good.
15:21 Again, if it feels right in your hand and if it looks right, you can certainly go on.
15:26 Take the clips away.
15:30 Excuse me.
15:33 Correct.
15:34 So, take the clips away.
15:49 Take a center section.
15:55 And right here above the occipital bone, I'll take a horizontal.
16:07 Like so.
16:13 There you go.
16:16 Comb the hair straight up.
16:20 One more time right here.
16:22 So, there you go.
16:25 Right to the tip of the ear.
16:28 Comb the hair straight up.
16:30 And here as you can see it's very minimal.
16:32 Here is the guide.
16:34 Because again, this was the side that was shorter.
16:37 Okay.
16:38 Straight through.
16:39 Keep your fingers level.
16:42 Stretch those fingers as well.
16:45 Same thing on the other side.
16:46 You can walk around to the other side.
16:49 Not a big deal at all.
16:50 Again, right here with the comb right to on top of the ear.
16:55 Comb the hair up.
16:58 Straight up.
17:00 And then here we're having more hair than on the other side because this was the longer side.
17:06 So, just remember that as well.
17:08 And then join here in with the side which is actually cut.
17:16 Perfect.
17:17 Excellent.
17:18 So, it's all level.
17:20 Brilliant.
17:21 Cool.
17:24 This is already shaping up here really cool.
17:31 All right.
17:33 You can kind of look at that already.
17:35 Shaping up nicely left and right.
17:38 And now you can stand up.
17:41 Super.
17:42 I'm just going to turn your hair a little bit sideways.
17:45 Yeah, like so.
17:47 And now we just need to connect to the side, from the side to the back.
17:51 And we take a vertical section from top of the head to the nape of the neck.
17:56 And all we do here, as you can see here again as well.
18:03 That was the corner I was talking about earlier in the beginning of the haircut as you can tell here.
18:10 And for this I have a really good trick.
18:12 What you're doing here is, it's very simple.
18:15 Just bring the hair back.
18:18 All of it.
18:23 Take a piece here from the nape of the neck.
18:27 Because you want to have hair from the nape, so you have a guide.
18:36 Comb it backwards here.
18:40 Comb the hair down and press it with your hand against the cape.
18:47 There you go.
18:49 And you see here, you can just beautifully blend it in.
18:54 Because you want to make sure you keep that solidness.
18:59 There you go.
19:02 Excellent.
19:07 See that?
19:08 Beautifully blended in.
19:10 Excellent.
19:13 Do the same thing on the other side.
19:16 Again, one more time, from the top of the head to the nape of the neck.
19:19 You want to ensure that you have a guide from the nape.
19:26 Comb the hair back.
19:29 Back and around.
19:32 Bring it forward.
19:39 Cup below your hands.
19:41 Perfect. Excellent.
19:44 This way you also keep it nice and blunt.
19:48 Excellent.
19:51 Super.
19:52 And it's so much easier if you actually have the person stand up, so you can cut it.
19:57 So you're not like down here.
20:00 Cool.
20:01 And now we just have to finish off by blending the back.
20:08 The back layers into it and then we're literally done.
20:11 You can have a seat.
20:20 So we have here a guide from the back here that we created earlier.
20:30 We're taking here a section again.
20:39 And now this is why I love the 15/25 car cutting comb.
20:47 It's from the left to the right, from top to bottom, the same gapping.
20:52 It doesn't have a finer part.
20:54 The reason why I like this so much is exactly that it can take these sections here.
21:05 Look at that.
21:08 Here, I can bring it up.
21:10 Super easy.
21:12 And it's just very little to cut here on top.
21:15 And this way I guarantee the solid outline with a few very bits layers within the interior.
21:24 It's just very soft and gentle.
21:26 And again, I've said it from the beginning.
21:29 This might not be the most exciting haircut.
21:32 But this is a go-to haircut.
21:35 The haircut that you see layers so often everywhere you go.
21:41 Everywhere I travel to in particular as well.
21:44 And I go to fashion places, to various bigger and smaller cities.
21:52 And it's just something very, very common.
21:55 And if you know these haircuts, some of these haircuts, again I said it, maybe not the most exciting thing.
22:01 But these are the go-to haircuts and stuff that you just have to do.
22:05 And if you have them down, you really can execute them fairly fast.
22:10 Okay.
22:12 Here we are.
22:14 Bringing the hair straight up.
22:16 Again as well.
22:18 And blend in right here.
22:20 But we saw in the very beginning of the haircut that we had a little bit of a skinny outline.
22:25 So I knew there were already a few layers in the back.
22:30 So it's not that crazy much to blend in.
22:35 Right there.
22:37 Like so.
22:47 Bring the hair all the way up.
22:49 Excellent.
22:51 Super.
22:53 Cool.
22:55 Fantastic.
22:57 Now we have...
23:01 You can basically double check your haircut here by just taking a cross-section.
23:06 A diagonal.
23:08 Bring it all the way up.
23:10 And you should always create a clean line.
23:13 And then you know that you have your haircut executed perfectly fine, as you can see.
23:20 Brilliant. Super.
23:22 And this is now all cut completely blunt.
23:26 So I haven't taken any weight out anywhere.
23:30 And I'm actually not going to.
23:33 Because I think the haircut prior to me, they took enough out.
23:38 So I'm going to just kind of leave it this way.
23:40 Also play a little bit on the safe side.
23:43 And...
23:46 Feels really good.
23:48 What I also do as well, I'll put the tools away.
23:51 And I just run my fingers through it.
23:56 I pull on certain angles here.
23:59 Okay, perfect.
24:01 Excellent.
24:03 You just have to kind of like those few spots that you double check.
24:07 Now it's all perfect.
24:09 Excellent. Cool.
24:11 And we're just going to simply finish it off here.
24:16 With some Korg Perfect Styling Wax.
24:20 All over the hands.
24:22 Really great stuff.
24:24 Water based. Easy to handle.
24:27 Which is important.
24:29 Now we're just going to...
24:31 Excellent.
24:36 Super.
24:39 And here in no time, we have...
24:44 Cool, longer layers.
24:47 Fun, brilliant, happy again.
24:51 Smiley face.
24:53 And that's what is important.
24:55 So, super cool. Excellent.
24:58 So, thanks for watching.
25:01 I'm going to sign off.
