00:00 Hi everyone! My name is Amanda Epstein. I'm a Matrix Artistic Educator and I'm also co-owner
00:09 of this studio that we're in right now, Pablo Avilón Studio. I'm really, really excited
00:14 to be here with you guys today. I'm going to show you a really quick, easy boho braid
00:20 incorporating the raw stylers that we have right here. This is my model, Ashley. Say
00:26 hi, Ashley. Hi! She's so pretty. So I prepped her with our Biolage Raw Nourish Shampoo
00:35 and Conditioner. Ashley has really curly hair naturally and it's a little dry, so I felt
00:41 like the Nourish would give her a nice moisturized, conditioned feel. And then I also went in
00:48 and put our Raw Smoothing Styling Milk to give a nice, smooth, easy blowout. So I sectioned
01:00 her off right around the parietal ridge. That's where we're going to start our braid. And
01:11 all I'm going to use today for this braid, for this look, is our elastic tie bands and
01:18 bobby pins. So it's a really quick, easy braid to throw in for upcoming weddings or a holiday
01:24 or just if you wanted to take some different pictures for your social media pages. So we're
01:29 just going to tie this off. Sounds like it would be great festival hair too. Also great
01:34 festival hair as well. I love our festival hair. What I'm going to do is I'm just going
01:42 to split this down the middle. And we're going to take the whole ponytail and we're going
01:51 to pull it through. I'm just going to tighten it up. Patty just joined. Hi Patty. Love me
02:10 some Patty. And we're just going to kind of pull out the top a little bit, give her a
02:20 little bit of height. What I love about these braids is the messier the better. If they're
02:26 a little too neat, it doesn't really fit that whole boho look, festival look. And Kira just
02:32 joined. Hi Kira. So I'm just going to cover this tie with a piece of hair from underneath.
02:41 And then we're going to stick a bobby pin right underneath. Next, we are going to take
03:00 another elastic. And we're just going to go about two inches down. We want to tie that
03:10 off. I would only do like one or two times around. You don't want it to be too tight
03:15 or too loose. Split down the middle. And again, we're just going to pull it through. And now
03:31 we're just going to kind of pull it out to give it that messy feel. And for those who
03:36 are just joining, Amanda, what did you prep Ashley's hair with? So I prepped her with
03:41 our Biolage Raw Nourish Shampoo and Conditioner to give her naturally curly hair some moisture.
03:49 And then I used the Smoothing Styling Milk, one of our new stylers for Raw, to just give
03:55 it a nice, smooth, shiny blowout. And now for any of the flyaways in the front, is there
04:04 any product within Biolage Raw Styling that you would use? Yes, definitely. Let me just
04:09 bobby pin this in. Maybe you could show us once you're done bobby pinning. So one of
04:17 my favorite things to do for flyaways is using our new Frizz Control Styling Spray with lavender
04:24 oil so it has a really nice, clean scent. All these products, by the way, have no artificial
04:30 fragrances so what's really nice about them is that it's super clean and kind of incorporates
04:38 that naked feel where it doesn't feel like you have product in your hair and it also
04:45 doesn't give off strong scents or artificial fragrances so I love that. So what I do to
04:51 smooth away frizzy hair, flyaways, is I'll take this spray and I just spray it on my
04:59 Nicolas French Shining Brush and just kind of go through and get rid of all those flyaways
05:08 on her hair. And just really smooth it out really nicely. Beautiful. Cory Hoffman just
05:18 joined. Hi Cory! I miss you Cory. So now our next section is we're just going to keep repeating
05:34 what we're doing so we're going to go about a couple inches down, tie it off. If I can
05:46 get my nails in there. Split, pull through. So now if she had longer hair I could actually
06:11 just keep going but you kind of get that whole look of that messy boho. And this is super
06:22 quick. I mean this normally takes me like two minutes to do it. Two minutes? That's
06:27 it? Two minutes, that's it. And do you have any tips for curling the hair or crimping
06:36 it because we did notice that there were some crimped pieces, some curled pieces on the
06:40 bottom? Yeah so I use the Sambia Mini Crimper and what I think is great about that is I
06:49 mean she actually has gorgeous thick hair but a lot of clients come in with very fine,
06:54 baby fine hair and they want these really super thick braids and the Mini Crimper is
07:00 just going to give you that extra body and fullness without showing up on camera. And
07:06 with the curling iron I like to use my Hot Tools, I think it's 1 1/4 inches Marcell iron
07:15 because I feel like it gives that nice loose wave without it being too like curled. We
07:21 have a few questions. Stephanie would like to know if you're wrapping the hair around
07:27 the elastic and hiding the hair with the pin into the back. Yes, so I'll show you on this
07:34 last one. I'm taking a piece from the back and just wrapping it around. This is kind
07:39 of short hair over here so it's hard to show but just to hide those ties because again
07:47 in pictures you don't really want to see any of the bands in the hair. And then I'm just
07:53 kind of sticking the bobby pin through the tie so it holds. We have another question
08:02 from Stephanie. Do you prefer using the Shine brush for flyaways over spraying the product
08:09 on your hand to control the flyaways? That's a great question Stephanie, thank you. I actually
08:14 do because sometimes we get a lot of oil or product build up on our hands and it can tend
08:19 to make the hair a little bit more frizzy. So for me, I really like this brush because
08:23 it's meant to give shine and smoothness to the hair in general and when you add product
08:28 to it, even hairspray, it does help to smooth those flyaways without getting any stickiness
08:34 or residue from your hand onto the hair. So thank you for that question, that's a really
08:39 good question. Patty said it looks bomb. Thank you Patty. Victoria said she loves your work.
08:44 Thank you. So I'm actually going to go in and add a couple more braids to this just
08:51 to give it a little bit more of that festival bohemian look. So I'm just going to do a really
08:56 quick fishtail. So now for texture, if you wanted to give a little, maybe a little hold
09:12 or maybe a little bit more texture into the hair for the beachy look, which of the Raw
09:16 Styling products would you use? My absolute favorite, which is also in my hair, is the
09:22 Texturizing Styling Spray. It has matcha green tea, which I just think is cool. But I actually
09:30 love it and what I'll do, I'll show you in a second, is I apply it, you can apply it
09:34 to damp or dry hair, but I love applying it to dry hair to give some grip and texture,
09:39 especially when you have fine hair. You kind of need that like grip in your hair. I mean
09:46 it doesn't build up, which is what I love about the Raw, because a lot of the Texturizing
09:51 sprays out there, it tends to build up in the hair and like creates this like very stiff
09:57 residue. What I love about the Raw Styling Texturizing Spray is it does give texture
10:02 and grip without build up. And how many stylers are in the new By Lodge Raw Styling line?
10:11 That's a great question. There are five. So we have the few that we've talked about. So
10:17 we have our First Control Styling Spray, we have our Texturizing Styling Spray and our
10:23 Smoothing Styling Milk. And then we also have our Curl Defining Styling Butter. So this
10:29 is for those soft curls without the crunch. And then we also have, I actually really love
10:37 this one as well, it's a Bodifying Styling Jelly. With lemon? With lemon. So it has natural
10:44 lemon in it and it just gives so much body without feeling that like stiffness from like
10:51 a mousse. That's great. Yeah. I'm really loving, I mean everyday clients with the Raw stylers,
11:01 I'm loving it because no one really wants to feel products in their hair. And that's
11:06 what I'm really loving about it is it does the job without feeling like you have anything
11:11 in your hair. I think the one interesting thing about By Lodge Raw in general is the
11:18 no no no's. Do you know what the no no no's are? I do. Can you share with our fans? I
11:23 can share what the no no no's are. The no no no's are no silicones, which is why we
11:29 have no build up, no parabens and no artificial fragrances. That's great. Who doesn't want
11:38 that in their hair care? So another tip too is instead of tying this off with an elastic
11:54 tie, you can just put a little tease at the bottom and it'll hold. As well as a little
12:03 bit of our texturizing styling spray. And that braid's not going anywhere. You don't
12:14 have to worry about like unraveling or falling out. We have another question from Stephanie.
12:31 Can you use the texture iron? Melinda likes products that are all natural, so do we. We
12:45 love all natural products. Now how many braids would you be putting in for added texture
13:00 or a little bit more of a look for Ashley? On her, I mean it depends. It really depends
13:07 on what you're going for. I'd probably just add a couple, but if you were to take like
13:12 maybe some side shots, you can maybe add another braid on the side. So I would say like two
13:16 to four. You don't want it to be too much, but. Okay, here's Stephanie's question. When
13:25 you use the texture iron, do you use it at the root or throughout? When you said it doesn't
13:31 show up on camera, do you avoid texturing the top layer to avoid the crimps being seen?
13:38 I do the whole strand. I really, I mean if you look at it from here, you really can't
13:45 see. And I did her whole head. So it really doesn't show up so much, which is what I love
13:52 about it, is it gives you that added body without looking crimped. So whenever I finish
14:04 a style, especially when we're doing that like beachy boho wave, I always take the texturizing
14:09 spray into my hands and I just kind of work it through. And again, it's going to give
14:19 me a nice hold without her hair feeling stiff. Like she'll be able to put her hands through
14:23 her hair, but we don't even need hairspray. That curl will hold the whole day. And again,
14:31 that's what I love about this stuff. And that's really it. Do you happen to know, Amanda,
14:38 where can somebody find the Nicholas French brush? I believe you can find it at Matrix.com
14:47 and Saloncentric as well in stores and I'm sure through your distributor. And then for
14:54 those of them who are just joining, there's a few questions on how you prep the look.
14:58 Perfect. So I prepped Ashley's hair with again, our Biolage Raw Nourish shampoo and conditioner.
15:06 She has naturally curly hair, so it just helps to moisturize those curls and a little bit
15:11 of the dryness. And then I went in with our smoothing styling milk to give her a nice
15:16 smooth shiny blowout before I went in with the mini crimper and the curling iron. Beautiful.
15:23 What do you guys think? Fun, easy, right? One loves it. Stacey Horvath says hello and
15:30 she loves your work. Hi Stacey. So Amanda, if everybody was to look for more of your
15:37 work, where can they find it? So you can find me on Instagram @amandaepstein_hair and as
15:45 well on Facebook, Amanda Epstein Hair. And you can also find me in January, I will be
15:52 at Destination. So I'm hoping to see all of you guys there and you must come and say
15:57 hi to me if you see me. But it's a really great opportunity to learn more about Matrix
16:02 and Biolage and the Raw stylers and new looks and trends. So we're really excited about
16:07 that. Great. Thanks everyone for joining. Thank you guys so much.
