00:00 The fastest animal on land - cheetah.
00:02 I'm Mario and this is M from Animals.
00:07 Cheetah is a member of the Felidae family, like lions, tigers and cats.
00:11 It has amazing superpowers.
00:13 It has the best vision from all the terrestrial animals.
00:17 Cheetahs can spot the prey from 5 km away.
00:19 Their black lines around their eyes attract the sunlight so that cheetahs can see clearly
00:24 when it's hot outside, because they live in hot places.
00:28 They are mostly found in Central Africa.
00:30 Some of them can be found in southern Algeria, northern Niger and Iran.
00:35 They like dry places like savannah.
00:36 They have yellow fur with nearly 2000 solid black spots, which helps them camouflage in
00:41 tall savannah grass.
00:43 Every cheetah has a unique pattern of spots on its coat.
00:46 They hunt on antelopes and gazelles such as blastbacks, duikers, grunts, gazelles and
00:51 impalas.
00:53 For hunting they use their amazing speed.
00:55 They can reach up to around 115 km/h, but they can run just for a short amount of time,
01:01 just 60 seconds or 300-400 meters.
01:06 They have a perfect design for running.
01:08 They're lighter and smaller than lions and tigers.
01:11 The head and body length ranges from 112 to 150 cm.
01:16 The cheetah reaches 70-90 cm at the shoulder and weighs 21-72 kg.
01:23 Cheetahs have a long 80 cm tail for balance and for turning quickly.
01:28 They have a very flexible spine and long feet for big jumps with every step.
01:33 Their claws aren't retractable like other cats for better friction with the ground.
01:38 They have a small head for aerodynamics, but are smarter than average cats.
01:42 These characteristics make cheetahs perfect runners.
01:46 Quick fact.
01:47 Samarians used cheetahs for hunting 5000 years ago.
01:50 Quick as a cheetah.
01:51 During the reproduction they form small families for 2 years until the children can't live
01:56 by themselves.
01:58 The female can give birth to 2 or 4 children at once.
02:02 Sometimes the male goes and leaves her with only her children.
02:05 Growing up, the siblings can live in small groups.
02:08 When they are small, they have a bluish-gray coat, to be confused with the aggressive honey
02:13 badgers by other predators like lions, and it changes when they grow up.
02:17 Overall, cheetahs are incredible animals, but, unfortunately, they are in danger of
02:22 extinction.
02:23 They are already extinct in 18 countries due to the habitat loss, pollution and environmental
02:28 changes.
02:29 Even if you don't live in Africa, you can help all animals by recycling, planting trees
02:33 and taking care of your local environment.
