00:00 Long and sticky tongues
00:02 Sharp and deadly claws
00:04 Aardvark vs Giant Anteater
00:08 It is time for another weird but epic battle
00:11 I am Mario and this is Animal Battle
00:14 In this episode of Animal Battle we will compare the Aardvark and the Giant Anteater
00:24 based on the 6 characteristics that are Agility, Attack, Defense, Intelligence, Bonus Heal and Survival
00:31 You might be surprised how deadly one of our competitors is
00:35 At the end of the video you will get to vote for the winner in the comments
00:38 and find out who won the previous battle between the Giant Panda and the Spectacled Bear
00:42 Before we start I need to clarify something
00:44 Even though these animals are very similar in a lot of ways, they are not closely related at all
00:50 The Giant Anteater can be found in South America, being a close relative to Sloths and Armadillos
00:55 The Aardvark lives in Africa and it is the only member of its order
00:59 Now that you know that we can go right to their Agility
01:02 The Aardvark can reach a nice speed of 40 km/h
01:05 which is quite useful for getting away from the many predators in the African savannah
01:10 It is also known to be a good swimmer even in strong currents
01:13 The Giant Anteater has a low metabolic rate
01:16 so it will usually walk slowly on its front knuckles just like gorillas
01:19 to keep its claws out of the way while walking
01:22 Still, if it is chased by a predator it will actually be able to gallop at over 48 km/h
01:27 It is also a good swimmer capable of moving through wide rivers
01:31 and can even climb trees or thermite mounds
01:34 So when it comes to Agility our competitors are...
01:37 Surprisingly good
01:42 The Giant Anteater being slightly better here since it is capable of reaching higher speeds and of climbing trees
01:47 Let's see if the Aardvark can make a comeback when we will talk about their bonus skills
01:51 The Aardvark has a big like snout that is the reason for its keen sense of smell
01:55 It also has a good night vision and those long rabbit-like ears grant it an excellent hearing
02:00 It also has a 30 cm long tongue that is essential for its diet
02:04 But when it comes to tongue length
02:06 The Anteater is the king with its 60 cm long sticky tongue that can move in and out 3 times per second
02:13 The tongue is kept inside its really long snout
02:15 that also grants the Anteater a sense of smell 40 times more sensitive than humans
02:19 Furthermore, in order to save energy
02:22 The Anteater has a really low body temperature for a mammal of only 33 degrees Celsius
02:27 When it sleeps, the Anteater will cover its body with its long bushy tail to keep itself warm and for camouflage
02:33 The Aardvark still has a really powerful bonus skill
02:35 It is an amazing digger
02:37 And when I say amazing, I mean it
02:39 Because using its large and powerful claws
02:41 The Aardvark can dig a meter of tunnel in just 5 minutes
02:45 It will dig a lot of smaller burrows while foraging or for rest
02:48 Its main living burrow is deep and can be 30 meters long with more exits
02:52 The old and abandoned burrows are very important for the ecosystem
02:56 As they will be used by a lot of animals like African wild dogs, porcupines, warthogs, hyenas, pythons, owls and lizards
03:04 Wait a minute, are you by any chance not subscribed?
03:08 You have reached pretty far into the video

03:14 Ok, let us see their bonus skills
03:16 They seem to have pretty high bonus skill stats
03:22 The Aardvark being better here due to its digging abilities
03:26 Following the bonus skills are the attack and defense stats
03:29 These two animals are surprisingly large
03:31 Aardvarks can reach up to 130 cm in length plus a 70 cm long tail and can weigh up to 80 kg
03:38 The giant anteater can reach up to 217 cm in length with its long tail
03:42 And males can weigh up to 50 kg
03:45 So what do these quite large animals eat?
03:47 Good evening, gentlemen
03:50 What do you fancy this time?
03:52 Is it ants or termites?
03:54 Yes, both of these animals feed primarily on tiny ants and termites
03:59 Which isn't as big of a surprise considering the giant anteater's name
04:02 Even though ants and termites are small, they are a great source of protein
04:06 Twice better than steak or chicken
04:07 The aardvark will have to forage over large territories
04:10 Using both its incredible sense of smell and hearing to locate its prey
04:14 Once it finds a concentration of ants or termites
04:16 It digs into it with its powerful front legs while keeping its ears upright to listen for predators
04:21 Using its long and sticky tongue, it will take a lot of ants at once
04:25 Being able to devour over 50,000 of them per night
04:28 Ants and termites will try to bite back
04:30 But their efforts are in vain due to the aardvark's tough skin
04:33 The giant anteater has a similar strategy
04:35 It will track its prey by its scent
04:37 After finding an ant nest or a termite mound
04:39 The anteater will break into it with its large claws
04:42 And will insert its long, sticky tongue to collect its prey
04:45 It will spend only one minute feeding at the nest
04:47 Since it is the optimal time for eating the most insects
04:50 And will get out of the nest before the soldier ants or termites will have time to react
04:54 In this way, the giant anteater will visit up to 200 nests in one day
04:58 And will bring terror to thousands of ants and termites
05:01 Consuming up to 30,000 of them per day
05:03 But how do these two animals deal with their predators?
05:06 The aardvark will encounter a lot of predators in the African savannah
05:09 Like lions, leopards, cheetahs, African wild dogs, hyenas and pythons
05:14 When a predator starts chasing it
05:16 The aardvark will dig to escape or will run in a zigzag pattern to the closest burrow
05:19 If attacked in a tunnel, it will dig out an exit, blocking the tunnel behind
05:23 Or, if it chooses to fight, it can roll on its back and attack with its claws
05:27 The giant anteater will be primarily preyed upon by jaguars and cougars
05:31 It will usually try to run from danger
05:33 But, if cornered, it will stand on its hind legs, intimidating the predator with a T-pose
05:37 Then it will slash the attacker with its giant claws
05:40 That are formidable weapons, capable of killing even a jaguar
05:43 Giant anteaters have been known to kill humans that threaten them
05:46 So be careful around these seemingly peaceful animals
05:49 So let's see their stats
05:52 They have pretty good attack and defense stats
05:56 The giant anteater being better at defense with its fewer predators and deadly claws
06:00 We will continue to their intelligence stats now
06:03 The aardvark and the giant anteater seem to be somewhat smart
06:06 The aardvark can be trained by zookeepers
06:08 While the giant anteater seems to make a smart decision
06:10 Spending only one minute at each ant or termite mound
06:13 Allowing it to recover afterward, so it can have a nice meal again
06:16 Still, besides those characteristics
06:18 There isn't strong proof that they are particularly intelligent
06:21 So their intelligence stats are...
06:23 Pretty decent
06:28 Lastly, we will go to their survival stats
06:31 That are very important, since it wouldn't make much sense to have high stats
06:34 If a species is going extinct
06:36 The aardvark is quite widespread in Africa
06:38 And is listed as a least-concerned species
06:40 The female will give birth to one cub at a time
06:42 Which will have a lifespan of up to 23 years in captivity
06:45 The giant anteater's population is declining due to habitat loss and hunting
06:49 Being listed as a vulnerable species
06:51 The mother will give birth to a single pup and will carry it on its back
06:55 That is actually pretty smart, as it makes the animal seem larger
06:58 And therefore more intimidating
07:00 But with that said, we can see their final stats
07:02 As you can see, both of these animals have really good stats overall
07:09 And I find it very interesting how they managed to evolve such similar abilities separately
07:13 But which of them is the winner?
07:15 You will decide that, voting in the comments down below
07:17 By writing #aardvark or #anteater
07:20 I will count the votes and will announce the winner in the next episode of Animal Battle
07:24 Seems like it is already time to announce the winner of the previous Animal Battle
07:29 Between the giant panda and the spectacle bear
07:32 So, after counting all the votes
07:35 The winner is...
07:37 The spectacle bear
07:39 If you wanted the panda to win, you shouldn't be upset
07:41 Because here, on M from Animals, we love and respect all animals
07:45 So don't forget to write #aardvark or #anteater to vote for this episode's winner
07:50 I would also like to thank my patrons for supporting me
07:53 And, if you truly love what I'm doing, why not support me on Patreon to fill up that list with your name?
07:58 Respect animals!
