00:00 You have to speak the roots of each other, you know?
00:02 Touch map.
00:04 Thank you.
00:05 Thank you, my friend.
00:06 You are the best.
00:07 Get ready to go.
00:08 Our co-feature tonight, junior unit
00:11 from Brooklyn, New York.
00:15 Got Egyptian roots.
00:16 There you see that young man.
00:17 I got to get it right.
00:19 We work with Pauly Malignaggi, Hansonhurst, right?
00:20 Hansonhurst, yeah, yeah.
00:22 The one and only.
00:23 17-0 and 1, coming off a first round KO.
00:27 I remember hearing about it when I started working with you
00:30 about nine years ago, Pauly.
00:31 There was a kid in the gym.
00:32 You had known him for a while.
00:34 Then managing issues, went away for a little bit,
00:36 then we saw him get back into it.
00:38 So as he's evolved, what kind of guy is this?
00:41 I mean, this is a--
00:42 Junon was always one of the more talented kids in the gym.
00:45 I mean, he was a child prodigy, even in Gleason's gym,
00:48 where there were so many champions, even in my time.
00:51 Junior was a little kid, and I can remember him always
00:54 dazzling everybody, working pads and working mitts and stuff.
00:56 So he's always caught the eyes of a lot of people,
00:59 but of course, there's been things that have gotten in the way
01:01 with a little bit of a slowdown for COVID,
01:03 some slowdown with contract issues and managerial issues.
01:06 But he's typically a fast starter.
01:08 It's once-- the question on Junon is,
01:10 can he control the pace throughout a longer fight
01:14 if Kampa starts to last?
01:16 Because Junon likes to start fast,
01:17 likes to throw big shots early,
01:18 and he likes to take control very early
01:20 and see if you can hang with him very early.
01:22 A lot of guys can't.
01:24 Coming out really aggressive.
01:26 Loading up on the punches and changing the rhythm.
01:29 His last fight was July of last year,
01:32 first round KO.
01:36 That was in Brooklyn.
01:38 - What do you need? - It was on a Danny Garcia,
01:40 Jose Benavides undercard.
01:42 He got back into the game. - What do you need from me?
01:44 - He wanted to win, but he's short.
01:46 - Oh.
01:48 - I think he's got Kampa's attention
01:50 with a body shot there.
01:51 - Yep, Kampa's face is red here
01:52 halfway through the first round.
01:54 - No lo blo.
01:56 - Kampa at this point just trying to weather
01:58 the early storm.
01:59 You know, Kampa is a veteran guy.
02:00 He's 18 and 7.
02:01 Looking to try to see if he can weather the early storm.
02:03 What can happen if he can go a few rounds with Junon,
02:06 and then maybe he'll start to open up.
02:08 Right now, he seems like Junon is overwhelming him
02:10 with some explosive offense.
02:13 Kampa's basically finding himself--
02:16 Again, Junon has all the tools when he wants to use them.
02:18 And then we'll see if Kampa,
02:19 if he's able to last a few rounds,
02:21 if he can start to get his head in the game,
02:23 if he can start to open up a few rounds,
02:25 if he can start opening up himself.
02:26 'Cause right now, he's--
02:27 He seems a bit overwhelmed in round one.
02:29 But he's-- doesn't seem like he's panicking,
02:30 I gotta say.
02:33 - Kampa's been there, done that, a veteran.
02:35 Reason they brought him in to test what Junon's all about.
02:39 [crowd shouting]
02:41 - Oh, good jab again from Junon,
02:42 sneaking it in there.
02:44 Stiff jab, snapping it.
02:48 Very confident.
02:50 [crowd shouting]
02:53 - 30 seconds to go in the opening round.
02:57 - That's that round control, that jab, you know.
02:59 That's what--
03:00 You know, the consistency of a jab like that
03:02 with a controlled round,
03:03 it'll allow you to go around
03:04 and keep the advantage throughout the--
03:07 and the pace control throughout the fight.
03:09 [crowd shouting]
03:12 - Kampa will mix it up with you.
03:13 He's not scared about that.
03:14 But it's a solid round for Junior Junon
03:16 here in Orlando, Florida.
03:20 - Great setup, Box Lab Promotions
03:22 doing a good job bringing fights to the Central Florida area,
03:25 especially here tonight on CBS Sports.

04:30 - Boxing's alive and well.
04:32 Most Valuable Prospects series kicking off May 26,

04:37 - There you have it. Back to you, Beto.
04:39 - Amadi does a great job bringing the boxing here
04:41 to Curry Royale.
04:42 Good setup.
04:44 Really passionate about the sport.
04:46 Then you have it here in the second round,
04:48 the junior, Yunin.
04:50 This fight was scheduled for 172.
04:53 Yunin came in a couple pounds over.
04:57 But I think, you know, Kampa,
04:58 when I talked to him yesterday, he's like,
04:59 "I don't care. I'm gonna fight him.
05:01 But I know I got a disadvantage in here."
05:02 But you see Yunin coming very strong, Paul.
05:06 - Yeah, trying to use that physical strength as well.
05:08 And you gotta see, Yunin will try to overwhelm you.
05:09 He'll see if you can hang.
05:11 Then he'll kind of back off and get back on the jab
05:14 if you wind up hanging.
05:15 But he'll look for every once in a while,
05:16 he'll step on the gas, then he'll put it into fifth gear
05:19 and see if you're able to match him.
05:22 You just saw an example of that there.
05:24 - Controlling the round, controlling the ring.
05:31 Junior Yunin.
05:33 He's now 27 years old and an 11-year pro.
05:37 - Yeah, he turned pro very young at 16, 17 years old.
05:41 - And we talked to him yesterday at the fighter meeting.
05:43 He realized, hey, quickly, the business side.
05:46 - Yeah, yeah. It can bite you.
05:49 That's the difference between the amateurs and the pros.
05:51 All of a sudden, it becomes a little bit less fun
05:53 'cause you have a lot more things to worry about
05:55 than just winning or losing.
05:56 - And you think you're gonna get a fight,
05:57 and like, "Oh, no, there's other things above me."
06:00 You put on the shelf for whatever reason.
06:02 You don't have to get into all that.
06:04 Everybody's gone through it.
06:04 Every fighter's gone through it.
06:06 You gotta stay ready.
06:08 And one of the special things when you're 27 years old,
06:10 you gotta just be active.
06:11 - Yeah, exactly.
06:12 This is the prime-- this is his career prime now
06:14 as far as physical prime.
06:15 So if he can make a statement here tonight with a good win,
06:18 he may find himself in a bigger fight soon.
06:21 [crowd shouting]
06:25 - Kapa with a record of 18 and 7.

06:43 is to get him down to some middleweight as well.
06:45 - That's where he belongs?
06:46 - Yeah, well, we know he showed up overweight,

06:50 like you mentioned yesterday.
06:51 He's fought a lot heavyweight this fight,

06:57 and fight and try to reach contender status there.

16:59 [speaking Spanish]
17:03 - Kappa's the winner.
17:05 And there--now it's all serious down the corner of Union.
17:08 [indistinct chatter]
17:11 - Look, it's a replay from a solid round
17:16 for Alan Kampa, who went Southpaw on us, Paulie.
17:20 - Yeah, he went Southpaw, and he started putting together
17:21 his hands very nicely.
17:23 See, Union trying to use that catch-and-shoot counter.
17:25 He missed it there.
17:27 Now he's sitting there waiting--
17:28 he's waiting for the referee to get his hands,
17:30 to go into the body.
17:31 And it ended up being just Union walking down Kampa
17:34 without any punches.
17:35 You see there a second for Union
17:36 trying to talk to the referee and Kampa right away
17:38 like a veteran trying to make him pay.
17:40 You got to protect yourself at all times.
17:42 - Sergei Derevchenko, Jesse Hart,
17:45 Eric Bazinian, Bechtemir Milikuzian,
17:48 some of the names that Alan Kampa has gone up against,
17:51 lost, but definitely the experience on his side.
17:55 So he's not respecting Union at all.
17:58 - Yeah, and now staying in the Southpaw stance.
18:00 He saw it work well for him last round.
18:02 - You know, one of the things that Hernan Caicedo
18:05 and Marcus said is, "Use the 'sidi salido' volado,"
18:08 the overhand right.
18:10 Very much the style of 'sidi salido,'
18:12 the one he used against Vasilislo Manchinco.
18:14 - That's Salido from that same area of Guaymas,
18:17 the Pueblo wall, as we see here.
18:21 Look at Kampa just attacking.
18:23 Union better keep his hands up.
18:25 - Yeah. - Go, go, go, go, go, go, go.
18:26 - And start--and start getting those hands moving,
18:29 because he's not loosening up.
18:31 He's not loosening up.
18:33 - Did Union come out too fast, Paulie,
18:35 in the first couple rounds?
18:36 - Well, it could be, you know,
18:37 'cause he put together some good combinations
18:39 in the early rounds, but also loaded up
18:41 a lot of weight behind him.
18:42 He's a big combo, he knew.
18:44 He knows how to get through the rounds.
18:45 He knows how to make it difficult for you
18:47 if you're not able to--
18:48 if you don't maintain that pace.
18:52 - And you can correct me, Beto, but fighters from that area,
18:55 they know how to take a punch.
18:56 - Oh, yes, they do.
18:59 And you hear a Mexico chant in Florida.
19:02 - No problem.
19:05 - Nobody knew Alan Kampa coming into this fight,
19:07 but he's winning the crowd.
19:09 [crowd chanting]
19:12 - A little front up for grabs here still.
19:14 [crowd chanting]
19:17 - Kampa right in the middle of the ring as a lefty.
19:23 - Oh, he's got some power.
19:25 - He's got some power.
19:27 - He's got some power.
19:28 - He's got some power.
19:29 - He's got some power.
19:30 - He's got some power.
19:31 - He's got some power.
19:32 - He's got some power.
19:33 - He's got some power.
19:34 - He's got some power.
19:35 - He's got some power.
19:36 - He's got some power.
19:37 - He's got some power.
19:38 - He's got some power.
19:39 - He's got some power.
19:40 - He's got some power.
19:41 - He's got some power.
19:42 - He's got some power.
19:43 - He's got some power.
19:44 - He's got some power.
19:45 - He's got some power.
19:46 - He's got some power.
19:47 - He's got some power.
19:48 - He's got some power.
19:49 - You know, there are guys that are gonna resist you,
19:51 and there are guys that you're just gonna decide,
19:52 "Okay, I'm gonna be better than you tonight
19:53 instead of gonna be a binocular."
19:55 You see, Junior shows flashes of that sharpness,
19:58 but it's just--they're getting fewer and further between
20:02 in his combat and his confidence.
20:03 - Well, nine rounds in 2021 for the Egyptian fighter.
20:10 One in 2022.
20:12 - Stop, stop!
20:14 - Hey, look at me, man.
20:15 Hey, look at me, man.
20:18 - Can you imagine if you were in his coat,
20:19 possibly the referee bringing together a clash of hands?
20:22 - Be careful, be careful.
20:23 - And Gampa hugs him, kisses him.
20:27 Pauly, if that guy does that to you--
20:29 - Whoa!
20:31 - Ha-ha-ha, big toes, teeth, going Mayweather.
20:34 - And now Yunin.
20:36 He's upset, and he better look around
20:41 as Gampa keeps on moving.
20:43 The lack of respect for Gampa and Yunin is frustrated.
20:47 - And the clash of heads there as well,
20:49 I think that's what the initial--
20:51 what he was closing his eye was about.
20:54 - Yeah, so that's the headbutt underneath the right eye.
20:59 He was complaining about an elbow at the end,
21:01 and Gampa, the veteran fighter,
21:04 Pauly, you got up against these tough Mexicans.
21:06 They know how to mix it up?
21:07 - And not only that, if you get into a machismo fight
21:09 with a Mexican-- I made that mistake early in my career.
21:12 I had a tough opponent who was just an opponent,
21:13 and I ended up getting into that machismo stuff.
21:15 So let's take a look at the headbutt here.
21:17 I'll get into my story later, but here's a clash of heads.
21:19 Again, it's Sal Pover's right hand.
21:20 There, Yunin fell in,
21:22 and Gampa also entered with his head,
21:25 and that was the clash of heads,
21:26 which also, I think, caused that black eye on the cheek.
21:29 - But there's a hug. - Gave him a kiss, saying,
21:30 "Okay, I didn't mean it, but let's get back to fighting."
21:32 Yeah, the thing with these-- the Mexican culture,
21:34 you know, it's a lot of machismo.
21:35 I remember I fought an 8-4 guy early in my career,
21:37 named Messi Santiago,
21:38 and I had such an easy first round,
21:40 I started playing around.
21:41 I brought the beast out of this guy, you know,
21:43 and he just wanted to go at me.
21:44 He tried-- I am convinced he was more motivated
21:46 for that fight than he was for, like,
21:47 kind of his other fights, 'cause as an opponent,
21:49 you're not really motivated,
21:50 but I gave him a reason to be motivated,
21:52 and, man, he ended up being a tough fight
21:54 when he shouldn't have been.
21:55 And I think Yunin is on the same thing here with Gampa.
21:57 You know, Gampa was kind of slow starting.
22:00 - Yeah. - Yunin was playing with him,
22:01 showboating.
22:02 Now it's Gampa who's brought out that machismo.
22:05 Yunin is locked in now.
22:07 Messing around, "I'll play with my food."
22:09 - That's gone now. - Yeah.
22:10 He has a different look on his face.
22:12 Sharif was very clear.
22:15 He asked his son to double up on that jab
22:17 and stop staying in front of Karpa.
22:20 He understands he's dangerous,
22:21 and he's taking too much punishment.
22:23 Movement, lateral movement.
22:25 [crowd chanting]
22:28 - [chanting]
22:30 - In the corner is Yunin.
22:32 [crowd chanting]
22:34 On the counter is--
22:35 Gampa misses one, answers on the second.
22:38 [crowd chanting]
22:41 - [chanting]
22:42 - The first few rounds, easy Yunin.
22:44 Middle, toss-ups.
22:46 - Yeah, Kampa has worked his way back into this fight.
22:49 Probably the last two rounds, and here at this round,
22:51 Yunin's gonna need a bigger round here
22:53 to take away this confidence in Kampa,
22:54 'cause Kampa is growing in confidence.
22:58 - Kampa's the kind of fighter that will have fights lined up
23:02 while he's in the ring.
23:03 There's--he said there's one in a couple months
23:05 if he wants it, depending on how he comes out of it.
23:07 - No, no, no, no, no. Let him go.
23:09 Hey, I'm sorry, if he wins this fight,
23:11 he's gonna demand more money for that one.
23:12 - He might.
23:13 - He's got his value, my girl.
23:15 - He's the guy that promoters use to test a young fighter,
23:20 and right now, Junior, the young guy Yunin--
23:22 - I'll tell you what the Southpaw stance has done
23:24 for Kampa, too.
23:25 It's taken away Yunin's jab.
23:26 Yunin was jabbing very well early in the fight,
23:28 but he seemed to be a bit reluctant to use the jab
23:31 with Kampa in the Southpaw stance,
23:33 although a nice counter jab by Yunin there.
23:35 Nice little check hook as well.
23:36 - A counter jab, but he's not been first in a while.
23:39 - Yeah, no, he's made him second-guess
23:41 that jab a little bit.
23:42 - Yeah, but you know, he was walking down Kampa
23:43 early in the fight.
23:44 Now it's been Kampa walking him down.
23:45 - Yunin's been in the corner most of this round.
23:49 - Hey.
23:50 [crowd shouting]
23:53 - Trying to counter off the ropes.
23:55 [crowd shouting]
23:57 Earlier in the fight, when he was doing that,
23:59 he was playing possum.
24:00 Now it's Kampa putting him into the corner.
24:02 - Ha, ha, ha.
24:03 [crowd shouting]
24:06 - Good, solid hand for Yunin.
24:08 - At least that last 30 seconds for Yunin now.
24:10 - Yeah, let's see if the final 30 seconds
24:13 for this round could still be up for grabs
24:15 if somebody takes it.
24:17 [crowd shouting]
24:20 - Ten seconds to go in the sixth round.
24:33 Another clash.
24:34 - Go, go, go, go.
24:35 - Yunin complaining.
24:37 - At that time, I gotta say,
24:38 it was Yunin that fell in with his head there.
24:39 - Yep.
24:40 [crowd shouting]
24:43 - Alan Kampa.
24:45 The former champion,
24:46 Elman Tyson Mark is in his corner.
24:49 Sharif Yunin talking to his son.
24:51 [crowd shouting]
24:53 Fighter who's 17-0 and 1.
24:56 And Inswell working.
24:59 [crowd shouting]
25:02 [indistinct chatter]
25:05 - Yeah.
25:06 - Okay.
25:07 [indistinct chatter]
25:10 - That's Tyson Marquez.
25:12 He's got a fight lined up in a couple months.
25:15 [indistinct chatter]
25:17 This is the kind of attitude they got.
25:18 The man whose work he cuts from,
25:20 they met him an hour ago.
25:22 - But that's the kind of guy he is.
25:24 - Exactly. Look at the replay.
25:25 - Kampa is here. - And here's some of the replay there.
25:26 Nice, sharp right hand,
25:28 but it was actually on the shoulder.
25:29 Little bit of a slip, good slip there by Kampa.
25:32 [crowd shouting]
25:35 - Yeah, the contrast.
25:36 Yesterday, Yunin came into our fighter meetings,
25:38 and there was, what, 10 people with his shirts on,
25:40 and he had his group with him.
25:42 - Entourage. - Entourage.
25:43 - You remember the first few words he said?
25:45 "I'm gonna wipe 'em out."
25:47 - Yep. - Exactly.
25:48 He did cry, and I'm glad you brought that up.
25:50 First word was, "I'm gonna wipe 'em out,"
25:52 and then it got quiet at our table.
25:53 - Mm-hmm. - And we had to ask him,
25:55 like, "Okay, what's your plan?"
25:56 He didn't sound like he had a plan yesterday.
25:57 Probably was a quick knockout. That's what he was hoping for.
25:59 - Yeah, yeah. - I still don't think
26:00 he's got a plan. What do you think?
26:01 - Yeah, I'm not sure-- - You know him better than us.
26:03 - I'm not sure Junior expected to be at this point
26:04 in the fight, you know, in round six.
26:09 With Kampa now back to the right-handed stance,
26:11 he takes a couple of jabs and look--
26:12 and accordingly, he turns back to the southpaw stance,
26:15 which has been controlling Yunin's jab
26:18 in that southpaw stance.
26:20 [crowd shouting]
26:23 - Get him! Get him!
26:25 - Get him! Get him!
26:27 - Get him! Get him!
26:29 - Get him! Get him!
26:31 - Get him! Get him!
26:33 - Get him! Get him!
26:35 - Get him! Get him!
26:37 - Get him! Get him!
26:40 - Crowd's trying to push Kampa now
26:41 with that C-section. - Yeah.
26:43 - Come on, come on, come on. - A little quick.
26:45 It's the seventh round, scheduled for eight.
26:49 And now you start to see Yunin picking it up.
26:51 - Yeah, he's getting a little bit tired at the round.
26:53 A little bit busier on the jab.
26:55 [crowd shouting]
26:58 - Now Kampa has turned back to southpaw again
27:00 to try to control that.
27:02 [crowd shouting]
27:05 - In the first few rounds, Tyson did tell me
27:09 that Carapau is having a hard time finding his distance.
27:11 I think he's doing a much better job when he goes southpaw,
27:14 but when he goes back to orthodox,
27:16 he gets--he has a hard time even adjusting the footwork.
27:19 - Is Kampa a little tired, though?
27:20 - No, he's not. He's not tired at all.
27:22 He's not tired at all for this round.
27:23 He's not been very busy at all,
27:24 and he's allowed Yunin to put a big tail
27:26 on the first round.
27:29 [crowd shouting]
27:31 - Solid counter from Yunin.
27:33 - That's that catching shoe. They work on that a lot.
27:35 - Very nice work.
27:37 - But Kampa was making Yunin bothered with the busyness,
27:40 and this round he hasn't shown that busyness,
27:42 and it's allowed Yunin to take back some control.
27:45 I don't know if it's Kampa who's actually gotten tired.
27:47 Big shot there again by Yunin.
27:49 - Kampa has shown that he can take those shots.
27:51 - Oh. - Kampa's on the rope.
27:53 - Oh.
27:55 - And we're gonna have a time.
27:58 Give him as much time.
28:00 - Low blow.
28:01 - Is that a low blow? - Oh, yeah.
28:03 - That was a very low blow.
28:05 - It was right in front of us, Paulie.
28:06 - I'm glad he has kids.
28:08 - It was right in front of us, Paulie,
28:10 and Referee Massimo looked over like, "Yeah."
28:14 - You okay?
28:15 - Hey, Lisa, come here. - Look at his face.
28:18 - Kampa actually was trying to get that--
28:20 he was taking out the mouthpiece out of his mouth.
28:21 Kampa also a bit fatigued.
28:24 - Let's look at that angle.
28:25 - He hasn't been busy at all this round himself,
28:27 and he allowed Yunin to get back some confidence.
28:28 Let's see, that was on the belt line low,
28:30 but, you know, it could be low--
28:32 or borderline, but Yunin continued that combination
28:36 with the right hand.
28:38 But again, Kampa had been giving Yunin fits
28:41 because of the combination punching he was doing,
28:43 and this round is sort of--
28:45 it seems like Kampa himself has gotten tired.
28:47 - Yep, and a much better round for Yunin,
28:50 who's landed the bigger shots here in the seventh.
28:52 As he told us in the fighter meetings,
28:54 "I'm looking to put on a show.
28:56 I didn't take 'em lightly."
28:57 - Oh! - That was a nice shot there
28:59 by Kampa. Kampa with the left hook.
29:01 - Yes!
29:03 - Could that be enough to steal a round?

29:24 A showman indeed.
29:26 Even a referee, Massimo, is enjoying it.
29:28 - Well, I think everybody's enjoying this fight.
29:29 - Absolutely.
29:31 - I want to go home.
29:32 - He just said, "I'm gonna go home, referee."
29:36 That's your favorite Italian right there, huh?
29:37 - Oh, yeah. - [laughs]
29:39 [dramatic music]
29:42 ♪
29:44 - Kampa's father, Alonso Sr., could not make the trip.
29:48 He's doing it on his own with his best friend,
29:50 Tyson Marcus, in the corners.
29:51 Look at some highlights from that seventh round.
29:54 - Yes, Eugene, there was a counter-uppercut there
29:56 that he landed.
29:59 And that kind of--and that kind of took away
30:01 the enthusiasm of Kampa.
30:02 That was a good hook there from Kampa.
30:03 But that uppercut early in the round
30:05 had taken away the enthusiasm
30:06 of Kampa's combination punching.
30:07 But it's fine. This can be all the fight for here.
