00:00 was targeted by Russia three times in 24 hours and to talk more about that now
00:04 let's go to Kiev live with our correspondent Gulliver Craig. Gulliver
00:08 what kind of reaction has there been in Kiev to these new strikes? You mean the
00:16 strikes on Moscow that took place this morning? Drone strikes apparently all
00:20 intercepted according to the Russian authorities and the reaction in Kiev has
00:25 on an emotional level I think been one of some satisfaction. Everybody who's
00:28 commenting it whether it's officials or just ordinary people seem to think that
00:32 it's quite nice to see the Russians getting a little bit of a taste of their
00:35 own medicine. Officially Ukraine says that it is not directly involved in
00:40 these attacks that was the statement made by Mihailo Podolyak senior advisor
00:44 to President Zelensky. Yuri Ignat the spokesman for Ukraine's Air Force said
00:49 something similar suggesting that this was the result of internal conflicts in
00:53 Russia this famous Free Russia Legion for example that made incursions onto
00:57 Russian territory in Belgorod region not long ago so that seems to be the
01:02 official line that the Ukrainians are taking but with a somewhat tongue-in-cheek
01:05 attitude suggesting that they probably coordinated at the very least
01:10 with these Russians who are against Putin and who may or may not be behind
01:14 these attacks. I have though heard pundits on the radio discussing whether
01:19 or not this is really the way for Ukraine to be going although they said
01:23 emotionally one's initial reaction is to smile when one sees drones attacking
01:28 Moscow and seeing that Russians perhaps also had a sleepless night it's really
01:32 questionable they were suggesting whether this is militarily going to be
01:35 very useful to Ukraine in even in propaganda terms in terms of
01:39 communication is it going to turn Russians against Putin's regime it's
01:42 hard to see any evidence of that happening and they were suggesting that
01:46 Ukraine's resources might be better used to attack oil depots military
01:51 installations and other targets closer to the Ukrainian border in regions of
01:55 Russia where it's clear how those regions are helping the Russian military
02:00 effort with its invasion of Ukraine. All right Ghalib it does seem like there is
02:03 some sound going sound issues going on behind you but but again just let's come
02:07 back to Kiev tell us about the situation there and how people have been reacting
02:10 to the strikes there that unusual daytime strike and and how bad it was
02:14 actually in regard to damages there in Kiev. Well I think that's probably the
02:21 sound interference that you're hearing because behind me is the residential
02:24 building in Kiev that was the worst hit last night apparently by an intercepted
02:28 drone that didn't fully disintegrate before slamming into the upper floors of
02:31 the apartment building behind me rescue not rescue operations rather cleanup
02:35 operations are underway now clearing the debris throwing things out of the
02:39 windows you hear them very loudly crashing to the ground it's clear that a
02:42 large number of the apartments in this building have suffered some damage 12
02:46 are reported to be destroyed in this building one civilian was killed several
02:51 were injured across the capital as a whole with six districts being hit some
02:55 13 civilians were reported injured and the Ukrainian authorities say that 29
03:01 drones out of 31 were intercepted which means to hit their targets we don't know
03:06 what those targets were it's possible they were military targets but we don't
03:10 know there's been no official announcement about that. Ghalib thank you
03:13 Thank you for that, Gulliver Craig reporting from Keeve.
