00:00 Alright, you need a little powder.
00:02 No, no, no, let me do that.
00:04 It's my job.
00:06 Funny.
00:07 Hi, this is Barbara Niven with Unleash Your Star Power, and the reason that we're fighting over makeup here is because this is Donna Moss,
00:14 and she is an Emmy Award winning makeup artist, and she is the only artist that I have ever personally hired,
00:21 not only for makeup, but for hair.
00:23 And in my studio with all my clients, Donna is the one that will come in and do your makeup as well.
00:29 And hair.
00:31 And she's just the one that makes everybody just beautiful.
00:34 Thank you, Barbara. I appreciate that.
00:36 What I really want to get across for everybody out there is that you deserve to look your best for any special event that you have,
00:43 and that's what Donna does.
00:45 And you teach it as well, don't you?
00:46 That's right.
00:47 I'm branching out and teaching the general public how to make themselves look beautiful,
00:52 not just for the camera, but for your special event, your party, your dinner date, your wedding.
00:58 So anything that you have coming up, I will apply the makeup, but also I will teach you how to do it for yourself.
01:04 Right, because when you come into my Unleash Your Star Power studio, and you have a shoot day,
01:09 and we do all of your videos, and I coach and direct you, before you sit in my chair where we are right now in my studio,
01:15 you spend the time with Donna, and not only do you take them through how to do their hair and makeup for that particular day,
01:21 but you show them how to do it themselves.
01:23 That's right, I give them some tips, and basically what I do is I want them to feel good about themselves,
01:29 because if they don't feel good about themselves, it shows on the camera.
01:34 Absolutely.
01:35 It helps boost their self-esteem for going in front of the camera, or a public speaking event, anything, your wedding,
01:41 you're going to look at those pictures the rest of your life.
01:44 You want to look your best.
01:46 And you don't want to have to worry about, that's one less thing you have to worry about.
01:49 Exactly.
01:50 You don't want to worry about what you look like, you want to worry if you're a speaker about what you're actually saying to the audience,
01:55 or if you're doing a video about the content of the video and your performance, or on your wedding day.
02:00 You don't want to worry about what you look like, just take all that stress out, let Donna--
02:05 And one of the things that I do when I meet somebody, the first thing I do is I say, "Do you wear makeup on a regular basis?
02:12 How much makeup do you wear?" because I'm looking at a blind canvas, I don't know this person,
02:17 so that's important for me where I'm going to start.
02:21 If I put a lot of makeup on a woman that's not used to wearing makeup, she's going to be uncomfortable.
02:25 If I put red lipstick on a woman and she's not used to wearing it, or it doesn't matter, she doesn't like it, I'm not going to do that.
02:31 Right.
02:32 We're going to find what works best for her.
02:34 And you do also work with men too, don't you?
02:36 Oh sure, of course, yeah.
02:38 They need makeup too, even for the groom at a wedding.
02:41 I say, "Let me put a little bit of makeup on you because you have all these beautiful women, and you're standing up there greasy, shiny, or red-faced,
02:49 let me just do a little something."
02:51 You're not going to see the makeup, that's important, but you're going to look better in those pictures.
02:56 Yeah, because the pictures are everything.
02:58 If you're spending a fortune on videos or getting your photo session done, you don't want to waste it.
03:03 Again, look your best.
03:05 So what's a makeup tip for men that you-- your number one makeup tip for men?
03:10 I think for men, it's more than anything, is to take the shine down.
03:14 Right.
03:15 Because when they're in front of the-- they say, "I don't want makeup."
03:17 If you take the shine down just with a little bit of powder, not only does it even out the skin a little bit, but they don't look greasy.
03:25 Because natural skin in front of the camera comes up very shiny.
03:29 It does.
03:30 Even if you have perfect skin, sometimes even the most beautiful skin can look oily on camera.
03:34 Exactly.
03:35 That's a red carpet secret, by the way.
03:37 That's right.
03:38 You want to carry a little compact like this, because you never know when there's going to be a photo opportunity.
03:42 And if you're doing your own videos at home on your webcam, or maybe you have a little flip camera, you're going to do a photo op, keep a little bit of powder handy.
03:50 Take that shine off.
03:52 And you just do here, here, and here.
03:53 Check the monitor, and anybody that you have on camera with you, take their shine down, because shine is a major distraction.
03:59 That's right.
04:00 And speaking of shine, a lot of women have the mistake of putting the shimmery eye shadow and the bronzer, and it looks beautiful in person, it's so glowing and shiny, but when you get under the hot lights, like we're here right now, all we see is the shine.
04:18 It's a light reflector.
04:19 So we have to take down the shimmer off of your face, because it makes you look greasy.
04:25 Right.
04:26 And nobody else knows that you've put that on, they just think you're greasy.
04:30 So it's not about wearing a lot of makeup.
04:33 Makeup is best when you don't even realize that you're wearing it.
04:37 You don't want people to see your makeup, especially in today's HD cameras, a little bit goes a long ways.
04:44 But you do want to enhance what you have, because your eyes especially are the windows to your soul.
04:49 And so we have a lot more makeup tips, and Donna can really help you out.
04:55 That's what I'm here for.
04:56 I know.
04:57 So please come shoot with us in our studio, we would love to work with you.
05:01 And if you have a special event coming up, check out DonnaMossMakeup.com.
05:06 That's M-O-S-S.
05:08 That's right.
05:09 Just how it sounds.
05:10 And until then, unleash your star power.
05:13 And thanks for making me.
05:15 Oh, thank you, I love you.
05:16 Oh, before you go, I have to say how we met.
05:19 We were on the set of The Bold and Beautiful, because she is an award-winning Emmy makeup artist.
05:25 And she did my makeup there.
05:27 A few years ago.
05:29 So when I started this studio, that's why I brought her in, because I believe in having the best for you, too.
05:35 So, goodbye again.
05:36 Thank you, Barbara.
05:37 Thank you.
05:38 Bye.
