Kurt Cobain's smashed Fender Stratocaster guitar, famously used during the making of Nirvana's "Nevermind" album, was sold at auction for a staggering $595,900, surpassing its initial estimate by more than ten times. Although the guitar had been reassembled, it was no longer playable. The instrument bears the signatures of all three members of Nirvana, along with an inscription from Cobain to the late Mark Lanegan, lead singer of Screaming Trees. Nirvana's handwritten set list from their debut performance of "Smells Like Teen Spirit" in 1991 was also sold for $50,800, exceeding its original estimate by twelve times. The guitar Cobain played during his iconic MTV Unplugged performance in 1993 was previously sold for $6 million.
