Wales headlines 15 May: Man charged with woman’s murder in Newport

A 25 year old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a 44 year old woman was found dead in a flat in Newport. Gwent Police were called to an address at Sandalwood Court at 11.30am on Friday, where the woman was pronounced dead at the scene. The man accused remains in police custody.

A family has paid tribute to a man who died in a crash with a van on Saturday morning. Ashley Thomas Rogers was riding his motorcycle on the A447, and collided with a van carrying a trailer at 8am. His family say ‘he was loved and will be dearly missed by his fiancé, son, family and friends’.

Opposition councillors walked out of a meeting in Caerphilly Council in protest of rewrite to the constitution which will lower the amount of scrutiny for the council. Independent and Plaid Cymru councillors called it an attack on democracy, while the council leader called the walk-out disappointing.
