00:00 In the top story, the head of Turkey's High Election Board has
00:04 confirmed that the presidential election will go to a run-off
00:07 between President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his main rival Kemal
00:11 Kelic Odalu on May 28th, as neither can reach the 50% threshold to
00:17 win outright. On Sunday, millions of Turks cast their ballots in
00:22 elections which followed a rather intense presidential campaign.
00:26 Sadia Masih has the latest on those results in Adana.
00:32 It is all but a certainty that there will be a run-off in two
00:36 weeks' time, Rochelle. According to the official figures, the
00:40 President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has secured a little over 49% of the
00:44 vote, whereas his opponent Kemal Kelic Odalu has secured somewhere
00:48 in the range of 44-45%. We are looking at a run-off in two weeks'
00:52 time. The big question this Monday is who has the best chance of doing
00:57 well in that election, who has the best chance of winning in two
01:00 weeks' time? For the moment, our working analysis is that the
01:04 advantage is with the President, not only because he has done best in
01:08 the first round, but also because he is winning right now in the
01:12 parliamentary elections. His alliance is on track to win there.
01:16 That would mean many Turks here say that they don't want division
01:21 between who controls the presidency and who controls the parliament.
01:24 They are more likely to vote for stability there. The other key
01:28 reason why Erdogan is looking strong here is that the third
01:33 candidate in the presidential race, Sinan Ogan, he has secured about
01:37 5% of the vote. Obviously he is not going through. Where will his
01:41 voters now go? He is an ultra-nationalist figure and he was
01:45 only on the ballot thanks to the support of President Erdogan. It is
01:49 pretty likely that his votes, most of them, will go to the President.
01:53 The opposition is saying that the fight certainly is not over yet.
01:57 They are going to campaign hard in the next two weeks ahead of May 28.
02:01 It looks like for the moment President Erdogan has the momentum,
02:05 has the upper hand.
