00:00 This video is a beginner's guide to face makeup, from cleansing, swatching, application techniques,
00:06 and fun tips and tricks.
00:07 First thing I'm going to do is to remove my dream dots that I had on from last night that
00:11 treat blemishes overnight.
00:14 Next I'm going to cleanse my skin with a pink grapefruit facial wash and pat the skin dry.
00:19 Toning your skin is optional, but this will remove any trace of cleanser that's left over
00:23 on the skin.
00:25 Time to moisturize.
00:27 Don't forget to apply SPF.
00:29 I apply a light layer of SPF first, and then my moisturizer over the top if I need to.
00:34 And we can't forget the lips.
00:38 Apply some lip balm to create a supple texture for later.
00:42 The first step in makeup is to apply a primer, but these are totally optional.
00:46 Think of it like a nail polish base coat for your face.
00:49 Your makeup will last longer and it will glide on better.
00:52 Now have a good look at your skin.
00:54 Do you need to even out the tone of your skin, or do you need to cover up some blemishes
00:58 or dark circles, or do you need to do both?
01:02 Concealer will cover up any discoloration like dark circles or blemishes.
01:07 Apply it to just the area of discoloration, and then use the warmth of your fingers to
01:11 blend it out.
01:13 For very dark circles, apply a salmon or pink tone concealer first to counteract the darkness,
01:18 and then finish off with your favourite concealer to blend in with your skin.
01:22 For blemishes, apply concealer with a small, detailed brush.
01:26 Don't use a lighter shade as it will just create more attention.
01:30 Use a concealer that matches your skin perfectly.
01:32 Apply to the centre of the blemish and blend around the edges.
01:35 If you have good skin, apply a simple BB cream or try a medium coverage foundation.
01:41 Test the shade on your chest and see which colour disappears.
01:44 This is the right one to use.
01:46 Apply from the centre of your face and blend outwards.
01:49 You can use your fingertips, a flat brush which is great for dry skin, a flat-topped
01:54 brush which is great for fuller coverage, or a sponge.
01:59 Now we're done with all the creams, we're going to apply some powder.
02:02 If you plan on using a cream blush, make sure you apply this before you use your powder.
02:08 Loose powders work great for oilier skin types as they're slightly drier, while pressed powders
02:13 work great for most skin types.
02:15 Use a large brush and lightly dust the skin with powder, or use a powder puff to press
02:20 the skin and this will give a heavier coverage.
02:23 Once the face is done, I like to do the brows.
02:26 Brows are really personal, but the way I like to do it is to use a pencil to outline my
02:30 brows and then use a stiff angled brush to blend the pencil out.
02:34 I also finish with a brow gel just to hold the shape.
02:37 When choosing a brow powder or pencil, choose a shade lighter than darker hair or a shade
02:42 darker for blondes.
02:44 For red heads, choose a slightly redder toned pencil instead.
02:47 Time for blush.
02:48 To pick the right shade of blush, have a good look at your lips.
02:52 The pink or purple hues that are found in your lips will usually compliment your cheeks.
02:56 For those suffering from rosacea, try a peach or light pink or purple blush instead.
03:01 To find the blush line, place your finger onto your cheek and then your thumb right
03:06 on top of your ear.
03:07 This is your blush line.
03:10 Use a small detailed brush and sweep over and back across this area.
03:15 Your contour line is slightly below this.
03:18 Go from the top of your ear to the corner of your mouth.
03:21 This is your bronzing or contour line.
03:24 Sweep your powder over and back, but don't use the same brush that you used for applying
03:28 your blush as it can alter the shade of your bronzer.
03:35 For your highlight, this goes right on top.
03:37 Feel that bone around your eyes.
03:39 This is your highlighted area.
03:41 Highlighter doesn't have to have shimmer in it.
03:43 It can also just be a slightly lighter powder.
03:47 Sweep this around the eye area to create the illusion of a thinner face or just to compliment
03:52 your face shape.
03:54 Finish the look with your favourite lipstick, lip gloss or lip balm.
03:59 And that's the look complete!
