00:00 Hey everyone, this is Diana.
00:11 In spirit of Valentine's Day, I decided to create an affordable makeup tutorial inspired
00:16 by the very romantic Lana Del Rey.
00:22 I'm going to begin by priming my eyes with ELF's Eyelid Primer.
00:37 It costs a dollar or two pounds depending on where you live.
00:40 This primer works so well for me.
00:42 I have very dry skin so that may be a plain factor, but for one dollar, it's worth trying
00:47 to see if it'll work for your skin type.
00:49 I went ahead and set the primer with a cream eyeshadow.
00:52 For this entire look, I'm only using eyeshadows from Sleek's El Natural palette.
00:57 The color I'm using is called Nugget.
00:59 The reason why I put powder is for two reasons.
01:02 The first one is that it acts as a concealer for my eyelid, so any redness or veins that
01:06 typically show will be covered.
01:08 It also helps the eyeshadows appear more true to color, and they blend so much easier since
01:12 there's a base for them to blend onto.
01:16 I love using tape when I do my makeup.
01:19 This is an awesome trick for beginners.
01:20 Before you put it on, stick it onto your hand and then take it off.
01:24 I always try to first position the tape.
01:26 When you're about to put it on, imagine that the tape is your eyeliner wing.
01:30 What angle do you like?
01:31 Do you like it super high, slightly low?
01:34 The position of the tape will also affect the overall shape that you give your eye with
01:37 the eyeshadow.
01:39 Some people like to line up their wing with the tip of their eyebrow.
01:42 I definitely like to go a little bit lower than that.
01:45 All I can recommend is to experiment and find out what you like.
01:48 My eye shape isn't your eye shape, but that doesn't mean that this technique isn't going
01:52 to work for you.
01:54 I'm applying a mix of New Book and Cappuccino with a MAC 224 blending brush.
01:58 These two colors are slightly sheer, but that's perfect since I only want a hint of color.
02:04 I'm adding a few layers of this mix.
02:06 By working slowly, it gives you more control over your look.
02:11 With a MAC 217 blending brush, I'm adding Royal to my outer V. This is a dark brown
02:16 with a slight hint of purple.
02:18 As you start adding this color, make sure that you hit the tape first.
02:22 The brush will deposit the greatest amount of color there, and you can slowly blend the
02:26 rest of the eyeshadow onto your eyes.
02:28 This is going to make blending so much easier.
02:32 As a side note, this palette is about 8 pounds, but for any American viewers, this palette
02:37 is selling for $12 on Amazon, free shipping included.
02:41 The quality is fantastic and it's a great everyday palette.
02:45 I'm going to deepen this area a bit more for that Lana Del Rey drama.
02:49 I'm using the color Noir and I'm really focusing on that area around the tape.
02:54 The darker you make that area, the more dramatic the look is going to be.
02:59 The tape really makes these dramatic looks so much easier because it tells you where
03:04 to place your brush.
03:06 Think of it as coloring in the lines.
03:10 For my eyelid, I want it to be very light.
03:13 I'm reapplying the color Nugget and sweeping it everywhere.
03:16 When your eyelid has a light eyeshadow color, it really livens up your eyes and the color
03:21 is intensified since it's contrasting the dark colors in the look.
03:25 I'm using my Mac 224, no additional color on the brush, and just helping blend the dark
03:30 and light colors one last time.
03:33 Apply the color Royal on the border of the tape and bring it up.
03:37 We are essentially creating a line to help us trace when we're going to apply our wing
03:41 eyeliner.
03:42 This is an awesome trick.
03:47 Now it's time for the fun part.
03:49 I'm going to take off the tape and see what I've created.
03:53 Alright so there's some makeup that we still need to clean up.
03:57 I don't see it as a big issue.
03:59 I like to feel comfortable with my makeup so that's why I apply foundation and all that
04:04 jazz after I do my eye makeup.
04:07 This is why they invented makeup remover.
04:09 I'll use a wipe to remove the fallout around my face and help clean up.
04:13 Okay so I'm pretty sure we all can see that there's some eyeshadow around the border where
04:18 we don't want it to be.
04:20 This is my trick.
04:21 I like to grab a cotton bud, put it under a makeup wipe, and I'll carefully remove the
04:26 eyeshadow around that area.
04:31 I'm going to apply some of Maybelline's Eye Studio Gel Liner in the color black with my
04:36 Mac 208.
04:37 I want to give you an idea of how much gel liner you need on your brush.
04:41 I'm going to show you how I do my wing and as you can see, I don't use too much product.
04:46 I like to start at my lash line and trace the border of the eyeshadow and work my way
04:51 up.
04:52 Since there's not too much product on the brush, it's easy to clean up if you mess up.
04:58 Once you have a line, I like to find a point where I want my wing to begin and I'll start
05:02 moving my brush towards my lash line.
05:05 I'll create the outline first and then slowly start to fill or color it in.
05:10 I'm not cutting too much of this video clip because I want you to see how much time it
05:14 takes me to do this.
05:16 I've been doing this for a while and all I can say is that it's easier to work slowly
05:20 than to try to rush everything and risk a huge mess.
05:25 If the wing isn't dramatic enough, you can find a higher point on the line and start
05:29 to create a bolder look.
05:54 I'm using Rimmel's Brow This Way in the color Dark Brown to fill my eyebrows.
05:59 Everyone likes to do their brows differently, it's a matter of preference.
06:02 I know I look crazy, but I tightline my upper waterline with Rimmel's Black Kohl Liner.
06:07 This is going to help your false eyelashes look more seamless since there's no skin color
06:12 peeking through.
06:13 As a base for my foundation, I'm applying L'Oreal's Lumi Magique Pure Light Primer.
06:18 It helps give you that extra glow.
06:20 To conceal my dark circles, I absolutely love to use Rimmel's Wake Me Up Concealer.
06:25 And for my foundation, I'm using Maybelline's Dream Flawless Nude Foundation.
06:29 This was the first time I used this foundation, so I was a bit uncertain on how to use the
06:33 applicator, but I managed to make it work.
06:36 I used to own a beauty blender, but I wanted to try the Real Techniques sponge to blend
06:40 my face products in.
06:41 This sponge isn't as soft as the beauty blender, but the result is flawless.
06:46 I recommend a sponge if you want a more natural finish for your foundation, plus it's only
06:50 about $6.
06:52 To set my foundation, I'm using a Real Techniques blush brush with a Bourjois Healthy Balance
06:56 Powder.
06:57 I always recommend to use a powder because it'll help you apply your bronzer and blush
07:01 more easily.
07:02 But if you have dry skin, don't apply too much either.
07:05 Today I'm trying for the first time Sleek's Face Form Contouring and Blush Palette, and
07:09 this is such a great value item.
07:12 I'm using mine in the color Light.
07:14 This palette brings a bronzer, highlighter, and blush.
07:16 For people with a rounder face, like myself, I like to bring my blush up to my temples.
07:22 I find that this manner of application really lifts and slims your face.
07:26 I'm applying the highlighter with a Real Techniques setting brush.
07:29 A highlighter helps lift your cheekbones and gives you a beautiful glow.
07:33 I'm applying House of Lashes Lashes in the style Iconic.
07:37 This is the only item that isn't technically drugstore, but is definitely comparable in
07:42 price for people here in the UK.
07:44 I apply my eyelashes with my tweezers.
07:46 I first make contact with the center of my lash line, and then I'll work with the outer
07:50 edges.
07:51 I'll definitely try to make a tutorial with some close-ups for you guys.
07:58 To give the illusion that my eyes are even bigger, I apply Rimmel's Kohl Liner in Nude.
08:03 I know I go crazy with it, but it'll all come together.
08:09 And bam, my big crazy eyes.
08:11 I'll apply the color Nugget to blend and set the eyeliner.
08:18 With a pencil brush, I apply the color Royal towards the outer eye to really round out
08:23 my eyes and intensify the lower lash line.
08:27 I like to connect the color with my wing as well.
08:34 To give some sparkle since all these eyeshadows have been matte, I'm applying the color Taupe
08:38 to my inner corner.
08:42 Now that the eyelash glue has dried, I like to apply some gel liner on the false eyelash
08:46 band to help blend it in a bit more.
08:50 As for my lips, I love to use lip liners as lipsticks because they last so much longer
08:55 and they give you a matte finish.
08:58 In my reference photo for Lana Del Rey, she has a very warm red lip.
09:02 I first use Rimmel's 1000 Kisses Lip Liner in the color Red Dynamite.
09:06 I'll follow up with a darker lip liner.
09:08 This is in the same Rimmel product line and it is called Obsession.
09:12 Even if you can't find an exact color in your makeup bag, you can always mix and match to
09:17 create a personalized look.
09:19 In my reference photo, Lana was styled with some Spanish influences.
09:23 She was wearing a rose on one side and I tried to channel that.
09:27 Nevertheless, if that's not your style, you don't have to wear it.
09:30 Also, a big thank you to Susanna for letting me use her cover song.
09:34 Thank you guys so much for watching and I hope you enjoy my final look.
