A marine biologist diving with sharks doesn’t realize there is some-FIN behind him… as a shark sucker-punches him with a headbutt out of the blue. Scott Seamone, a PhD candidate marine biologist studying swimming behaviors in sharks and stingrays at the University of Calgary, was in the Bahamas with a group of friends spearfishing. The group had taken a day trip from Florida, where Scott was based as he had received a grant to do research at Florida Atlantic University for six months. Scott and his pals were approached by a shark during one of their dives, and having spent a lot of time diving with sharks around the world, he felt comfortable diving down to get some video. As he focused on capturing stunning closeup footage of the Caribbean reef sharks, another one appears out of nowhere and collides into him from behind. While generally docile in the presence of divers, the Caribbean reef shark has been known to become aggressive in the presence of food.
