00:00 The Conicorso ranks as one of the top 3 best watchdog breeds in the world, and the Rottweiler
00:05 has a strong reputation for the same.
00:07 So, if you are torn making a choice between these two, this video is for you.
00:13 In this video, we will be comparing these two watchdog breeds to find out which is right
00:18 for you.
00:19 Make sure you watch this video to the end to find out the most important thing to consider
00:24 before picking one of these dogs.
00:26 The Conicorso is an old Italian dog breed that was bred to guard property and hunt game.
00:32 They're very powerful and athletic dogs.
00:35 The Rottweiler was originally bred to drive cattle to the market and was also used to
00:39 pull carts for butchers.
00:42 Rottweilers are one of the earliest dog breeds to be used as police dogs and to serve in
00:46 the military, and as such, they're very strong and intense dogs.
00:51 One thing is clear about these two dog breeds, they're no pushovers.
00:55 These are intimidating and sometimes ferocious dog breeds, yet they both have a friendly
01:00 and loyal side that will always endear them to their owners.
01:04 So, which of them is a good fit for you?
01:07 Let's take a closer look at these two dog breeds.
01:10 Appearance The Conicorso stands at around 23-27 inches
01:14 at the shoulder and weighs between 90 and 120 pounds.
01:18 It has a short coat that can come in black or light and dark shades of gray.
01:23 Some Corsos come in light and dark shades of dawn and red as well.
01:27 These colors can also have brindle patterns with irregular streaks of light and dark colors.
01:32 The Rottweiler stands at around 22-27 inches at the shoulder and weighs between 85-130
01:38 pounds.
01:39 Rottweilers have a double coat and they are also known to shed heavily, especially in
01:44 the spring and in the fall.
01:46 For the rest of the year, their shedding is moderate.
01:49 These dogs are clearly not bred for their looks.
01:52 So, if looks are really important to you, check out our other videos on other dog breeds.
01:58 Lifespan Rottweilers have an average lifespan of 8-11
02:02 years, while Conicorsos have a slightly longer lifespan of 10-12 years.
02:07 While there isn't much of a difference, we'll have to give this win to the Conicorso here.
02:13 General Health Both of these dog breeds are known to be generally
02:16 healthy.
02:17 However, as with every single dog breed, they are prone to certain diseases.
02:21 Conicorsos and Rottweilers are susceptible to hip dysplasia, eyelid abnormalities, gastric
02:27 torsion or bloating, amongst others.
02:30 Whichever dog breed you choose to have, you must be ready to provide the medical care
02:34 required to keep them healthy.
02:36 Adaptability Both the Corso and the Rottweiler are not the
02:40 best apartment dwellers, so unless you live in a big house, you might want to skip these
02:45 two dogs.
02:46 If you live in hot weather, then you want to get the Conicorso as they fare much better
02:51 in the heat than Rottweilers.
02:54 Personality The Conicorso is a naturally fierce beast.
02:58 However, this can be tempered with proper training and early socialization.
03:01 In the wrong hands, a Corso can be a serious danger to people, as they have been known
03:06 to ferociously attack strangers.
03:09 They are reputed to have a vigorous temperament, ready to meet any challenge.
03:13 So here's the thing, if you've never owned a dog before, do not get a Conicorso.
03:18 The Conicorso needs a firm and consistent owner who will lead with stern authority,
03:24 and this often requires experience.
03:26 A well-trained Corso is typically friendly and affectionate towards its owners and the
03:31 family.
03:32 They could make excellent family dogs, however getting out this friendly side of the Corso
03:37 requires early socialization and training.
03:39 Early socialization should begin when the dog is still a few weeks old.
03:44 This will build your dog to be well-rounded and more friendly to strangers.
03:48 The Corso is a highly intelligent dog and has an inherently bossy nature.
03:54 As a leader, you must learn to exert your authority and let the dog know who's boss
03:59 if you are going to be successful in training.
04:03 Well-socialized Conicorsos behave very well around kids.
04:06 They will form a loving and protective bond with them.
04:10 Notwithstanding, children must be taught how to behave around Corsos and how to properly
04:15 approach them.
04:16 Children must be taught not to make high-pitched sounds around Corsos or else the dog might
04:21 mistake them to be prey.
04:23 And these dogs should definitely never be left unsupervised with little children.
04:28 The Conicorso is a super active dog.
04:31 This is not one to lie around and do nothing.
04:34 So if you're a couch potato, then skip this dog.
04:37 They need to be mentally and physically active as much as possible and it's the responsibility
04:41 of the dog owner to keep their Corso engaged.
04:46 There are many things that the Rottweiler has in common with the personality of the
04:49 Conicorso.
04:51 Just like the Conicorso, the Rottweiler is typically uninterested yet never intimidated
04:56 by strangers.
04:58 Well-trained Rottweilers are normally calm, confident, very watchful, and observant.
05:04 This combination of calm confidence is what makes Rottweilers excellent police dogs.
05:10 That said, you don't want to threaten a Rottweiler for a second.
05:14 They have a natural instinct to protect their family and will go very aggressive in defense.
05:19 If not handled properly, Rottweilers can become very dangerous and highly aggressive towards
05:23 strangers, even children.
05:26 So just like the Conicorso, a confident and firm dog owner is required to handle any Rottweiler.
05:31 The Rottweiler requires a leader it can trust and be submitted to.
05:36 It goes to show that Rottweilers, just like Corsos, are not for everyone.
05:41 Despite their reputation, a well-trained Rottweiler is an excellent family dog.
05:46 They're very friendly and warm.
05:47 They're also very intelligent and highly trainable dogs.
05:50 They might show a little bit of stubbornness and hesitation in training, but that's because
05:55 they like to test the will of your leadership skills.
05:59 Well-trained Rottweilers behave well around kids.
06:01 However, kids must be taught how to behave properly around them.
06:05 And of course, they should never be left unsupervised.
06:08 Rottweilers are energetic dogs, and so they require sufficient exercise and daily playtime.
06:15 So which of these dogs is best for you?
06:17 Well, it depends on your personal preference and if you're able to meet the needs of either
06:22 dog.
06:23 It is clear enough that both of these dogs require an experienced hand.
06:26 If you have the experience, then really any of these dogs will be great as both watch
06:30 dogs and family pets.
06:33 But if you don't have the experience, we suggest you watch our video on the 10 easiest
