Twins manager Rocco Baldelli is EJECTED for a furious reaction after umpires allowed Yankees pitcher Domingo German to return to the game following check for illegal substances on his hands.
Minnesota Twins manager Rocco Baldelli was ejected on Saturday after an umpire checked Domingo Germán extensively following three perfect innings and allowed the New York Yankees pitcher to remain in the game.
Germán, 30, was checked after the top of the third by crew chief James Hoye and again when he came onto the field during the top of the fourth. Yankees manager Aaron Boone and team translator Marlon Abreu joined the discussion, which led to a five-and-a-half-minute gap between the end of the third and the start of the fourth.
When Germán was allowed to go back to the mound, Baldelli didn't look too happy coming out of the dugout and pointed repeatedly as Hoye tossed the manager from the game.
Twins bench coach Jayce Tingler took over as manager. After the 6-1 loss, the Twins' official Twitter account made light fun of Baldelli's tossing.
'We're going to wash our hands of this one,' the tweet read.
Germán retired his first 15 batters, striking out 10. New York led 3-0 on home runs by Kyle Higashioka and Anthony Rizzo.
Twins pitcher Tyler Mahle (1-2) allowed four runs - two earned - four hits and three walks in 4 1/3 innings.
Higashioka put the Yankees ahead in the second when he drove a high fastball into the Yankees' bullpen in right-center, the ball landing by a bench.
The runs were unearned because Mahle bobbled Franchy Cordero's grounder, causing a late throw to first.
Rizzo homered into the right-field short porch in the fourth, his fourth this season. DJ LeMahieu, back in the lineup after missing three games with a sore quadriceps, made it 4-0 with an RBI single in the fifth and Stanton doubled high off the left-center wall in the seventh.
Michael King relieved Germán and allowed an RBI double to José Miranda - Lin-manuel's cousin - followed by an RBI double off Michael King, who finished the five-hitter.
Despite Saturday's loss, the Twins got the best out of the Yankees in what was a three-game series, which started on Thursday.
