‘Succession’ makes ‘ludicrously capacious’ $2,890 Burberry bag go viral

A four-figure Burberry bag stole the spotlight during the Season 4 premiere of “Succession” Sunday night, thanks to a scathing review of the designer style by Tom Wambsgans (Matthew Macfadyen).

Splashed with the British brand’s instantly recognizable checked pattern, the purse in question popped up on the arm of Bridget, Cousin Greg’s (Nicholas Braun) date to Logan Roy’s birthday party, with Tom calling it an “enormous faux pas.”

Calling the carryall “ludicrously capacious,” Greg’s fellow “Disgusting Brother” asks, “What’s even in there, huh? Flat shoes for the subway? Her lunch pail? I mean, Greg, it’s monstrous. It’s gargantuan. You could take it camping. You could slide it across the floor after a bank job.”
Priced at $2,890, the two-handled tote doesn’t just say Burberry — it screams it, making for a stark contrast to the super-rich Roys’ quietly luxe cashmere and “stealth wealth” suiting.

And “Succession” fans had a field day with Tom’s fashion takedown.

On Twitter, users likened the roomy style to an Ikea shopping bag, Mary Poppins’ magical tapestry tote and Jennifer Hudson’s infamous Louis Vuitton from the “Sex and the City” movie.
That handbag was so perfectly chosen. It’s exactly off in the right way. I can’t stop thinking about it,” tweeted writer Camilla Blackett.

“The fact that it was Burberry. The visible print. The size. The model of the bag… everything was just perfectly awful,” another person chimed in.
