Pakistan: Khan supporters clash with police during attempts to prevent former prime minister’s arrest

  • last year
Chaos erupted outside the home of Pakistan's former president, Imran Khan, on Tuesday (14 March) after police attempted to arrest him for not attending court on corruption charges.

Officers clashed with Mr Khan's supporters, using water cannons and tear gas on the protesters who threw stones and bricks.

On Wednesday, a court ordered police to suspend the operation to arrest the embattled opposition leader.

Mr Khan has claimed that authorities tried to arrest him to prevent his party from taking part in upcoming elections, but minister Marriyum Aurangzeb maintains that it is connected to a corruption case.
