शाहकुंड में बुद्धिज्म और बौद्धधर्म को उनकी जड़ों से लगभग काट ही दिया गया। जहां कभी बुद्धम शरणम गच्छामि के धम्म स्वर से समस्त वातावरण गुंजायमान होता था अब वह पवित्र स्वर खामोश है। पूरे क्षेत्र में बौद्ध धर्म से जुड़ी ना केवल आस्था को क्रूरतापूर्वक खत्म किया गया बल्कि उसकी पहचान मिटाने में भी कोई कसर नहीं छोड़ा गया। बावजूद इसके शाहकुंड की जमीन से पुरातात्विक साक्ष्य के तौर पर बौद्धकालीन देवी देवताओं की मूर्तियां लगातार निकल रही है । शाहकुंड की पहाड़ी पर एक प्राचीन कुआं आज भी मौजूद है । कहा जाता है कि इस मौर्यकालीन कुआं का निर्माण सम्राट अशोक ने करवाया था। इसी पहाड़ी पर सम्राट अशोक की युवावस्था वाली एक छोटी काले ग्रेनाइट की मूर्ति भी है जो आज भी नाम और पहचान की मोहताज है।शाहकुंड की रत्नगर्भा धरती से महात्मा बुद्ध भी निकले और नरसिंह अर्थात शाक्य सिंह की प्राचीन मूर्ति शांति और प्रेम का संदेश लेकर बौद्ध धम्म चक्र लेकर बाहर आ गए। यही हाल लकुलीश की मूर्ति के साथ हुआ उनके हाथ में भी बौद्ध धम्म चक्र था जिसके हाथ को ही तोड़ दिया गया।आज यह मूर्ति भागलपुर के संग्रहालय में बिना नाम और पहचान के संग्रहालय के मुख्य द्वार पर खड़ी कर दी गई। लेकिन इतिहासकारों के एक बड़ी भूल हो गई उन्होंने इस बात पर ध्यान ही नहीं दिया की लकुलिश की एक और मूर्ति खंडित अवस्था में शाहकुंड के तालाब के किनारे पड़ी हुई है।

Not only was the faith associated with Buddhism brutally destroyed in the entire region, but no stone was left unturned to erase its identity. Despite this, idols of Buddhist deities are continuously coming out from the land of Shahkund as archaeological evidence. An ancient well is still present on the hill of Shahkund. It is said that this Maurya period well was built by Emperor Ashoka. On this hill, there is also a small black granite statue of Emperor Ashoka in his youth, which is still in need of name and identity. Mahatma Buddha also emerged from the Ratnagarbha land of Shahkund and the ancient statue of Narasimha i.e. Shakya Singh brought the message of peace and love to Buddhists. Came out with Dhamma Chakra. The same situation happened with the statue of Lakulish, he also had a Buddhist Dhamma Chakra in his hand, whose hand itself was broken. Today this statue was erected at the main gate of the museum in Bhagalpur without name and identity. But the historians made a big mistake, they did not pay attention to the fact that another idol of Lakulish is lying on the banks of Shahkund's pond in a fragmented state.
