Unwinnable War: Experts Weigh in on Paths to Peace Amidst Divided World Powers

As fighting between Russian-backed forces and Ukrainian military intensifies, calls for negotiations to end the conflict are growing louder. But with deep divisions among major world powers and no clear path forward, what will it take to bring an end to this seemingly unwinnable war? Experts weigh in on the challenges and potential paths to peace in this episode of Democracy Now!

The G20 meeting of foreign ministers in New Delhi has ended without any agreement on the war in Ukraine, despite calls for a negotiated end to the fighting. US Secretary of State Tony Blinken and his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov, spoke briefly on the sidelines of the summit, their first meeting since Russia invaded Ukraine, but no diplomatic breakthrough was made. The meeting comes a week after China released a 12-point peace plan. However, the US has dismissed China’s proposal and on Wednesday Blinken said he had seen “zero evidence” that Russian President Vladimir Putin was ready to engage in negotiations.
